  • FUCKING AWESOME! THAT'S IT.

  • apparently 5 assholes listen to garbage like Lady Gaga. How do you sit there as a human being and say "yeah, I really don't like this crap.....dislike".

  • dont you love the hug at the end?

  • ZimerMAN!!!!!!!

  • Why piano sounds so crystak clear when Zimerman plays it!!

  • il est monstrueux ce mec, Dieu lui a prette ses mains ;)

  • Very good version but pretty far from perfection. His technical skills are simply amazing, his perfect crystal clear sound is very beautiful, but I have not found yet the sucesor of that magical sound from the past, from Beethoven which Arrau achieved.

  • did you enjoy it? yes or no? So bloody what if its not like Arrau's - I mean he's a lovely bloke but not the be all and end all. Perfection maybe - dull probably. Sometimes you know perfection isn't the point. Beethoven I am sure would have loved the fact that so many people got pleasure from this version - grumpy old man or not. Now off your high horse please

  • 4 people have cloth ears

  • This is especially brilliant Rondo played by Zimerman. I love the energy it uses, but also the delicacy of their fingers, they almost kiss the keyboard. A unique masterpiece! Thanks for the link!

  • one year later and i still love watching this ... smiling sooo much

  • Hey, if you don't know how the composer felt while writing the music then just play it as it is. Zimerman does just that.

  • Beethoven = GOD

Zimerman = Semi-GOD (just because he didnt compose the piece)

I think that nobody will be able to compose something like this again

  • @Adri58 : you're right. nobody will compose like this :(

  • IT'S GREAT.....I also like very much the one with Daniel Barenboim and Staatskapelle Berlin

  • love how bernstein he is NEVER looking at the score but knows when to pass the sheet ;) outstanding three men in these videos: zimerman, bernstein and beethoven

  • People who disliked this should write a comment and offer a detailed explanation with sufficient arguments for their dislike. It’s just, I don’t get it. I try to imagine the most eccentric scenarios in which a sensible human being could not like this masterpiece, so beautifully executed. And I can’t find a rational scenario. They don’t like the fact that we are mortal and thus can’t enjoy this music throughout eternity, perhaps?

  • ...Zimerman is famous for his studiedly "insensitive" mechanical playing, with really consistently nasty tone, the "athletic" thing, that goes over with lots of audiences these days, but he knows how to put it to clever use, as here...with Lenny he gets this"symphony with a piano obbligato" going...well, his playing is good enough to make for some kind of an acceptable "piano obbligato", right?...damning by faint praise?...

  • It's interesting how different artists approach this work. Gould does make more of the left hand passages (as in 0:11+) and even plays the right hand chords lighter as does Gulda. There is more range of dynamics here in the piano part however.

  • J'ai vu cette pièce deux cents fois, au moins...

    C'est l'art.

  • This music and this performance gets me smiling every time. GREAT!

  • Utterly beautiful. Thank you for uploading it.

  • Youtube should really extend the 10 minute limit... At least the third movement of this excellent performance should be heard in continuum.

  • Bernstein is a bit crazy at the end......

  • @Pelleas1007 ummmmmmm youre the crazy person

  • @Pelleas1007 a good thing1!! :) :D Beethoven too!!

  • Every time I enjoy classical music I thank the musical geniuses and most of all my parents for introducing me to this wonderful genre when I was just a little kid.

  • Those who have no appreciation for classical music (specially the music of the masters like Beethoven and Mozart) don't know what they're missing! My life would have been poor without this, and the combination of Zimerman and Bernstein ... ahhh! What perfection, what utter indulgence and beauty!

  • Zimerman is a kind of highly taltented person Bernstein is only talented Zimerman is even a kind of highly rare person. Bernstein is the one who is there due to his work, his patience, his perseverance. Zimerman is there because he is so talented. Bernstein is a clever Zimerman has the grace. At the end of the concerto, Bernstein embrassed Zimerman without any will from Zimerman. I wonder for who I have more respect ? Probably for Bernstein, he has work so much to be there. Great lesson.
  • Bernstein jumped at the end! :D

I love how he plays this music

    love you!

  • typical pianist haircut

  • never heard better than this be4 !!!

    magnificent ..

  • Awesome!

  • chills

  • 5:21 air violin - becomes air cello LOL Bernstein is AMAZING

  • Zimerman is amazing!

  • 7:20 "Ok Lenny we're done here, a hand-shake'll do it...no...wait!" "7:23 "Come here ya magnificent bastard!"

  • his hands.....i don't know how he does....

  • Fantastic! Although it's ever so slightly disconcerting between 6:45 and 6:50 where he blinks on every chord.

  • wonderful, about; whats is the dierctor name's??

  • Leonard Bernstein, West side story c'mon!

  • Beethoven's music will dominate the ages as well it should; Zimmerman is absolutely splendid and Bernstein adds a unique flair to the performance; There is something so eternal about this concerto, as well as the 4th. for that matter, and also something so perfectly comforting....

  • lol the violinist in background misses que?? 0:15

  • 1:13

  • AMAZING ... this puts pretty much any other music to shame.... zimerman is the ultimate pianist and showman...bernstein has the best job there..he gets to dance to it!!!!... near the end where he does the virtual violin... amazing... oh to have been there!!! The audience are so square... i dont think any of them moved an inch from one part of the concerto to another!

  • @habana999

If i had seen that life, i'd have ripped my hairs out while jumping on my chair afterwards !

  • hahahahaha, you're right Bernstein: what a passion, what a man :))) :D I love this Rondo !

  • ahahahah amazing!!

watch Bernstien after 5:00, he goes berserk, its awesome

    wonderful performance

  • @pkjpiano, yea he did! I started laughing when I saw that. Ahhh, the potential of great music. Thank you Beethoven.

  • que pretencioso rachmaninoff con su concierto 3 pero como superar esto del sr Beethoven

  • precioso si señor..

  • excellent !!!!!!!!!

  • i mean, this bernstein is sooo crazy, but amazing, so sympathatic!! I would react in the same way like he does....so much life and happiness!!! Great!!!!! 5 million stars!!!!!

  • Ha ha ... that Bernstein is crazy...

Zimerman is one of my favorite pianists (my favorite is Claudio Arrau) and this presentation is so good. Congrats!.

  • I always loved Arrau's Emperor also, but Zimerman's execution in this whole series is so clean and all but flawless. It''s one of the very very few recordings where you can really hear and pace the triple triplets for example, fine and exciting video.

  • Life! Passion! Heart! Guts! Soul! Spunk! Funk! Grace! Power! Whit! Tenderness! Everything ALL THE WAY! And no amateurish screaming! NO HALF-STEPPING! Full-on music! Beethoven would be pleased!

  • Bernstein give energy at this concerto.

  • Best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is so beautiful performance as well as so wonderful concerto!!! Bravo!!!

  • Absolutely brilliant. First of all, Beethoven, a true genius, one of few. Then the unique combination of Zimerman and Bernstein. Both at their very best. I say, be thankful that you have the priviledge of watching this truly wonderful moment in music history. Let Beethoven, Zimerman and Bernstein enrich and enlighten your life and show you the way.

  • amen!

  • Does anyone play better than Zimerman? I think he needs a new agent. No one talks about him but everything I've ever heard him do is just splendid.

  • He seems to be someone, who hates publicity!!

He performs about 50 times a year, and doesn't release many cds, because he thinks he played bad. He also forced some companies to no longer sell copies of recordings of earlier performances, because of the same reason. So it's quite difficult to get recordings of him, and because of that, the few, which are available are really expensive(debussy preludes or example).

You can see, that he seems to be the only person who dislikes the records.

  • That's fascinating. A perfectionist who's never satisfied with his work. Maybe what drives him to be so good in the first place?!? Thanks for the insights

  • i think the same.

It is his right, so we have to accept that.

  • Comment removed

  • An excellent performance by Zimermann, but I would recommend the recording of the same concerto by Mikhail Pletnev and the Russian National orchestra under Christian Gansch

  • Excellent!

  • Haha I just rewatched this, Bernstein really loves his job

  • Well, this is perfection

  • As close to heaven as we can get.

  • his sound!!!

  • My favorite!

  • 5:42 till the end is probably the best music ever written.
