All you did was add a lens flare and keyframed the size so that it looked like an explosion. Then (for the smoke) you scaled up a model with the displacement modifier on and keyframed.
@TheFXGuy Yes that is in fact all I did. does it matter though if it looks fine at the end? This isn't even serious work for me, I'm a modeler, not a VFX artist.
I didn't mean it like that. I was just trying to make sure I had it right. I don't work in Blender that much, mainly after effects. I just use Blender for normal maps, fluidsims, mattes, etc.
I'll watch the rest tomorrow...
