scooby doo, jaber jaw, funky phantom, captain caveman, speed buckey... what's with the 1970's and teenagers who are in a band and solve mysteries with a non human and goofy sidekick???! lol
scooby doo, jaber jaw, funky phantom, captain caveman, speed buckey... what's with the 1970's and teenagers who are in a band and solve mysteries with a non human and goofy sidekick???! lol
Every time Speed Buggy came to mind in my life, I thought of flatulence (or farts brought Speed Buggy to mind.) I always thought this association was a weird quirk on my part.
Seeing this intro again 36 years later, I now know why (0:08! Also, check out 0:32.) Thanks for posting this, I know I'm not a weirdo after all.
Did ya noticed that When the toon is about a group of teens there's a leader, a girl, a brainy kid, and a comic refief and the show's namesake which is a talking dog or car or a genie.
saturday morning in my pajamas with the feet hanging out eating cereal and watching cartoons from 6am to 12pm oh those were the days i'm glad i was born in the 70's
@pazzensutra There was a 70's cartoon called "Rickety Rocket" which was even weirder than Speed Buggy. Black teens flying around in a BLACK SPACESHIP (if you can imagine that) complete with big boot-lips and a voice like Redd Foxx. (Big-time racial stereotyping going on IMHO!)
Apparently The Series is coming out on MOD-DVD(Manufacture On Demand) in early 2011 from Warners. Sadly only available for sale in the US. I'm Canadian *Sigh*
Yeah me too, get up as early as 5 or 6 then flip channels wathing cartoons till about 12 Noon, and don't forget the Live action shows that came on Saturday mornings also, like Tarzan, the Lone Ranger and Batman, Shazam and Isis
1970s saturday was all about the cartoons and the cereal. You would wake up at 730 and watch them until 12PM eating your TRIX or Captain Crunch or Count Chocula or Fruit Loops, etc. It would be good to see more of these cartoons released on dvd. I have over 30 cartoons series on dvd. It is great re-living your child hood.
@youngercga1968 Oh man, you sound just like me! I grew up in the 1970s (I was born in 1969) and I too watched saturday morning cartoons while eating bowl after bowl of my favorite breakfast cereals (Trix, Frankenberry, lucky charms, etc), only I'd get up much earlier like as early as 5am. I didnt want to miss ANY of my cartoons, and I did indeed watch them until around 12pm in the afternoon when they came to a stop. The 1970s was the golden age of saturday morning cartoons.
@youngercga1968 Then you'd play with your friends on yer Big Wheel or Green machine till 8 or 9pm. No video games to get glued on! Some of my friends had Simon or head to head football but that was pretty rare.
@youngercga1968 And don't forget the toy comercials of all the crap you wanted for Christmass. Starwars toys, bionic man action figures, the stretch "X" and stretch monster, micronughts, and weeble-wobbles!
@Pynaegan Stretch Armstrong...lol. You can't forget the 12 in tall massive Amazing Energized Spiderman figure. Can you believe they made one of the Green Goblin?
I didn't like this cartoon. The constant sputtering was annoying.... besides it shouldn't be sputtering like that... And how did he achieve intelligence? It comes in the chassis I guess?
I know I'm gonna be in the minority here but I never could get the point of this toon. Don't get me wrong - I love the classics & many'll say this's one of em but it never was my cup of tea imo.
Wish CN & Boomerang would air episodes of the old Challenge of the GoBots toon from the mid 80s. I was more in tune w/that than I was w/Speed Buggy.
I used to enjoy watching this show when I was a kid. The thing I remomber most about the show is that a villian could control Speed Buggy with Tinker's remote control, similar to a villian being able to control Wonder Woman with her own magic lasso in the comic books.
Yes indeed, a couple of hours of toons before school, and a couple after school, and Saturday from 6 to 12, besides that the holiday cartoon specials and thats all we had. we looked forward to the halloween and xmas specials Peanuts etc. It was a big deal! Now kids have cartoons 24/7 and do not appreciate them, I miss Fat Albert, The Flintstones and Jetsons, and all the other Hanna Barbera programs as well as the Warner Bros. Looney Toons.
@9evilnine9 Why hasn't CN or Boomerang gotten a hold of Fat Albert now since most Filmation toons are in Warner's possession? Never could dig Jetsons.
BTW imo HB had some real duds when it came to toons in the 70s & 80s - crap like Clue Club, DynoMutt, Inch High Private High (aka poor man's Inspector Gadget), Butch Cassady, Trollkins, Devlin (what the hell was that one all about anyhow) & Gilligan's Planet. Not all HB's toons were classic.
@9evilnine9 Even latter day Scooby sucked especially that totally horrible toon from the late 70s/early 80s that was extremely dark & sounded more like SuperFriends (even used SF's music.) You know the SD toon that introduced Scoob's family like Scooby Dum, Scooby Dee, DynoMutt & Scrappy. Those were the darkest days of Scoob imo. Glad Spiderman & His Amazing friends recycled a villain from an ep of that crap show only to see it get killed off.
what ever happened to fat albert or gazoo on fred flinston or even jabberjaw the shark i used to watch then religiously lol brings back a ton of memories hahaha
@theartworx I wrote CN & demanded they put Fat Albert in their lineup but CN never responded. That was a classic toon as was Filmation's Batman & Tarzan toons from the late 70's. Before Herbie the Love Bug, there was Speed Buggy? Or did the two debut around the same time, or did Speed Buggy come after Herbie?

@ztslovebird Herbie debuted first in a 1969 Disney movie. Speed Buggy didn't arrive until 1973.
