Many of the Arab Jews were paid by the Israeli goverment to relocate after there were a few incidenced of violence in their country of origion. Avi Shlaim, the Oxford professor who happens to be an Iraqi Jew... he did a quite interesting interview a few months ago.. he was an Iraqi Jew and he was among those who left in 1948.. and he's emphatic that they were not expelled.

Recently Israel paid 300 Peruvian Christians to convert to Judiasm and move to Wes Bank Settlements.

As far as purchased land goes. In 1947 only 6% of the land in the UN Mandate was land they purchased from the 1800s to 1947. Yet the Israelis were given 56% of the land. After the 48 war they had 78% of the land.
