I don't watch his videos for more than a minute. Sometimes its good to watch mediocrity in action so one can recognize it and hold themselves to a higher standard.
@orqsilva so you're in the habit of finding "mediocre" musicians and watching their videos for 1 minute, then stopping, just so you can inspire yourself to seek a higher standard. And then proclaiming your awareness of your superiority to the world. Sounds like a worthwhile use of your time.
@orqsilva i don't care how great you think you are, or who you think is great. but everyone can respect elvis costello, and you're a pretentious ass if you say otherwise

The song is OK, it has flaws. Point is, he can't even sing his own song. Maybe he has some talent as a writer, but not as a singer and guitarist. He was slick and rode the wave of "punk" disaffection (being completely "unpunk" himself) to some sort of popularity. .
Not Chet Baker. What a no-talent. Falubert said, " Every bourgeoise wants to think of himself as an artist." This is a perfect example. Nothing happening here.
Hmmm, i dunno what you mean, but yes Costello wrote it with and for Chet Baker in mind. a perfect fit, indeed. on second thought, maybe it was Shipbuilding. Anyway, one of the greatest songs ever.
@pippoMASO I'm not sure how you have interpreted my simple comment into a preference of one over the other... It would appear that you think I prefer Elvis? whatever...you've got your agenda and I...well, I don't. Question of tastes? more like a question of reading comprehension.
feelings are never mediocre, unfortunately

Just compare Chet baker's version of "Almost Blue" with "Elvis" (obviously not his real name) Costello's.

@orqsilva Wow, talk about being an ignorant jackass.

How can you even say Elvis is a no-talent? That makes no sense.

This doesn't bring you close to the feeling you get with the Chet Baker version.

@orqsilva How can you call Elvis a no-talent? You must be deaf, or tone deaf.

Does anyone know if Chet and Elvis ever did a duo on this song?
vegascrash 1 year ago
@gunnymorales74 Elvis Costello wrote Almost Blue for Chet Baker.

I think he does a wonderful meaningful interpretation.

Chet is no doubt a fabulous player but with no composer, there is no song. Content is king, always has been, always will be.

He aint nothing without Chet!

Chat and Costello so cool.
Paulinkebink 2 years ago
Man this is soooo good, he can write a song and deliver it (though Chet simply has this genius touch that gives it just the extra)
thanks for posting

Chet gave it pathetic, heart-wrenching tragedy.
