  • WONDERFUL

    JUST FANTASTIC DONE BY SMOKEY

  • Great upload. Thanks a lot. This song always makes my day.

  • So En Vogue didn't do the original?! lol Just joking. They did a FINE rendition tho.....

  • I still like MJ's cover better.

  • @bashbro1able Same here.

  • LOL WTF! you and i have the same voice... so much for being unique. hahaha... but really, it's creepy as hell.. i thought i was hearing myself for a second...

  • awesome XD

  • this guys voice <<<

  • forget mj the temptations killed mj with this song. And that's a fact.David sang way higher then him and he was a men. If you don't believe me listen to the song. And when he sing who's loving you at the ending you'll believe.

  • DO NOT EVER REMOVE THIS!

  • Wow, umm I love me some "SMOKEY" (as the girls back then would yell out lol), but with all due respect MJ killed it. It amazes me how a young boy such as MJ at the time could kill a song with such smoothness, strength, passion. Wow.

  • Thank you for posting this. an actual vinyl rip. beautiful. goosebumps up and down my arms.

  • Smokey Robinson is one of the baddest song writer on the planet,I'm just glad I've been around since the beginning!!!!

  • Smokey is great,Michael is great, both are but in their own unique way..

  • ...terence trent d'arby....better

  • i agree, i prefer michael's version... much better, much smoother, and thats why michael is so great, he gave always his best, but smokeys also did it great.

but for me the winner is michael

  • I remember this version now, I had'nt heard it in years every since Michael put his thing down with it and made it his. OMG Michael's version is way better. No wonder Smokey agreed.

  • I love both versions Smokey & Micheals. Remember this version was out years before Micheal's. Micheals does an awesome cover. Smokey humbly said it was better than his version. Smokey's version is still great - two different styles not to mention Smokey was the master poet that wrote this song. The interesting thing is that Smokey loved Micheal's version also. Both versions are great - I love them both.

  • @Chocolateblondie I couldn't agree more.

  • >> WORDS OF LOVE FROM THE MASTER HIMSELF > PRICELESS <<

  • im a big mj fan so naturally i like his version better personally, but this original version is amazing.

  • @STAROFTHESEA58======HEY!LISTEN MASTER PIECE LISTEN TO ANOTHER SONG BY SMOKEY ROBINSON NAMEOF IT IS--I CAN'T FIND --PULL IT UP ON YOU TUBE YOU WILL SURELY ENJOY THIS SONG TOO

  • Smokey even admitted MJ covered it better than he did....

  • Smokey wrote this song? He is truly talented. I really enjoyed this original one, since this is a very adult song. Little MJ's version is very good too. I don't want to compare them since they have a different perspective.

  • just play the music neckst time, dont wanna wait until 0:52

  • WHY EVERYONE GOTTA SAY THEIR PIECE BEFORE SPINNING THE DAMN RECORD

  • @svendiamond I learned something.

  • @svendiamond IKR?? LOL

  • MJ?? better?? I went and listened and he sounds like alvin the chipmunk to me. Smokey rules. always has.

  • > THIS SONG IS A DAMN MASTERPIECE > PRICELESS <

  • This was a Friday night party closer my sister use to use back in 1960-61.

  • even Smokey himself said that he could not sing this song better than Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5....

  • the miracles were the orginal of this song is it? whoever's the orginal, the jackson 5, or rather, mostly Michael, sang it the best!!

  • MJ / SMOKEY versions both masterpiece....I'm sentimental to this cause it's the original ..... by man who conceptualized,..... wrote...... and sung it FIRST .....both genius.

  • well, you see, this is my opinion. the miracles are the original, therefore should get the most credit. although i'm a pretty big temptations fan, their version wasn't really my favorite. however, i must say that the jackson5 is great. [=

is it weird that i'm 17 and love motown? lol

  • Stop talking, Christ.

  • By the way, the name of this group is THE MIRACLES.....not "Smokey" . Let's give credit to ALL of them , SMOKEY ROBINSON, CLAUDETTE ROBINSON, BOBBY ROGERS , PETE MOORE, RONNIE WHITE, and MARV TARPLIN. They deserve it.

Smokey didn't record this song all by himself.

  • Other groups may be COOL....

    But, THE MIRACLES RULE!!!

Of all Motown groups, The MIRACLES are ,BY FAR , the MOST COVERED MOTOWN GROUP OF ALL TIME. Over 60 of their songs have been covered by numerous other acts , in every different musical genre, including POP, ROCK, COUNTRY & WESTERN, JAZZ, REGGAE, FUNK, RAP/HIP HOP, GRUNGE, & MOR/EASY LISTENING ...as well as SOUL/R&B...and The Jackson Five have covered quite a few themselves ...this isn't the only Miracles song they' covered.

  • i love smokey but the jackson 5 took this song and made it theirs, people call this michael jackson's song.

  • J5's version of this is bluesier. I like it better. The thing is that Smokey's tunes have so much depth and so much you can bring out of them. Some artists make versions of his tunes that take it to a new place. Like i though I didn't even like "Crusin" til I heard D'Angelo's version. Then I realized I Loved it. But the thisng is Smokey writes tunes that have so much depth. That's why you have to give him the credit even if another artist makes a song of his you like better. He is the originator

  • SMOKEY ROBINSON WROTE THIS BUT MJ and the jackson 5 blew this out of the park FORREAL!

  • SMOKEY...wrote the record to me it's always gonna be his version that is the best because it was a starting point...and at that time with do whoop and all that it was just a diffrent time WHEN M j came along it just got took to another level...because no matter how the times change love and hate will always be the same that's why u need feeling in music weather it's r&b or hip hop or rock for that matter u must have to have feeling in the music...that's the key to why any record will last

  • Michael's version is smoother

  • I love both Smokey and MJ, I listened to both versions

  • Michael Jackson version!!!!Best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yeah Smokey Robinson's version is the best, MJ is the greatest ever. But Smokey's is the best.

  • ditto

  • No need for all the talking at the beginning. Just play the song, nobody cares about all that other stuff.

  • This is great I love it .Hey, check out my youtube collection.

  • click on: smokey robinson tribute

check out alphonse- former lead singer of the motown miracles singing i'll try something new. sounds great.

  • MJ owned this song...Smokey should be very proud.

  • I agree w/U but there is no one like Smokey. MJ did his due on this song and as young as MJ was, he really took the song to another realm but Smokey is still the King as far as his recording goes.. Happy Holidays

  • I think Smokey shines when trying to sing this song with a voice of anguish and sadness. He was almost acting.

MJ used his natural, talented, angelical and nicer vocals.

MJ's voice sounds better but it lacks interpretation.

  • Smokey is Smokey and his voice is not no other. He is letting the listner know of his anguish, and if you call that acting, well the beat continues to roll. MJ again did a fantastic vocal for someone who was so young. I think you better listen again to both versions. Each had his own interpretation and Smokey is still the man.. MJ sang his behind off and I loved his songs as he grew and I miss him but he was no Smokey.

  • @allstatelegs1 of course MJ was no smokey because he is MJ and the name MJ is bigger..and i like that name better..

smokey robinson is the classic, he is of the past generations

MJ is all about his generation up until now..

all i can say is MJ was too young to sing that song and made it really popular..

  • Smokey made have been as you say past generation but he is still the one. Where do you think MJ got it from. The one and only Smokey. Bless MJ for his version which I loved. Smokey is still among us and still sounds good. MJ is now at peace.

  • @allstatelegs1 as what smokey said.. he thought he sung the song but here came little michael who owned his song..he even mentioned that people were asking him why he is singing michael's song LOL.. most people didnt know that smokey was the original..MJ is the man he owns his own and owns someone else's songs.. the thing is no one ever owned MJ's songs..

  • U are so right, MJ sang that song like he knew all about love and I'm glad that U like MJs version, Smokey is not the past, he's still kicking butt out here. Young folk like yourself did not know Smoke recorded the song 1st but young folk are listening more to my generation of music which is Smokey and others like(Lady T, Cameo, The Whispers). U have a good ear for music.

  • @allstatelegs1 if you watch different auditions in shows like american idol.. contestants always say "i am going to sing who's loving you by michael jackson"...

  • I have not heard any one singing Who's loving you since Idol started the new season. So which idol show are you watching? In past seasons a few tried to sing the song and it was ok. There will never be another MJ, he will alwys be the King of Pop.

  • @allstatelegs1 but of course smoeky is the original... but MJ is the great innovator

  • Nothing against MJ, since God knows he was incredibly talented. That being said, take him back to a 2-track studio in the late 50's-early 60's, and then let's compare who sounds like what. Nothing against Michael, but you're comparing apples and oranges--and, the early 60's apples win this one!

  • MJ's version > Smokey's original. No comparison, young MJ owned this song!

  • I have this album, but mines is with the globes. I also have the original 45...The Temps covered this one too....thanks for sharing man.

  • No problem, Steve. I also have the mono version of this L.P. with the globes label. This copy was a 2nd pressing.

  • What about Terence Trent D'Arby's take?

  • mj was better but he sang it how everyone thought it should have sounded like. but smokey sang it with feeling. he probaly went through this kind of stuff so it had more meaning when he sang it. but they were both good.

  • SONG: Amazing. COMMENTATOR: Fail!!!!!!!

  • I swear this this guy doesn't shut up at the beginning of this video!!! 25 secs and its still not playing!!!

  • No offense to the late MJ, he had his moments in the spotlight and contributed greatly and unselfishly for the music industry, but only a man could feel what Smokey was singin' about at that time...children dont know anything about adult relationships and it really should remain that way...

  • but MJ still sang it better.

  • Now that's what I'm talking about ladybug40906. That's why at times as much as I respect MJ, I don't like the fact that a lot of the subject matter that MJ sung about never related to his personal life because he never grew up properly.

  • Although you're definitely right about the "MJ never properly growing up" part- I wonder if there is a relation to these songs in his life that we will never understand. Subject matter aside- he probably held on closely to this type of music (that inspired him) in addition to the choreography of all his heros (Fred Astair, Gene Kelly, Al Minns, Leon James).

  • @ladybug40906 the problem of smokey before was :::how could a young man like MJ could sing a song like this so emotionally::::for a 9 nine year old singing it like that..

    and most of all BEN.

  • @ladybug40906 Yet he could sing it better than Smokey.

  • @ladybug40906 That was the magic and empathy of Michael. He could understand.

  • Smokey's version is sooo sooo lame! What! I love Smokey but I'm surprised he sang this song so badly when compared to MJ's version

  • Wow Smokey no harm but a kid sang your song better but I still love you and your music.

  • Yep Michael definitley sung it better. Sorry Smokey!!!!!!!:)

  • This version came out in 1960

  • even smokey robinson admitted he was outsung by michael.

  • Smokey is the man and no one can out do him singing and that`s a fact when it comes to a slow

    sexy song.

  • artist do that out of courtsey . smokey song the hell out of this song. i heard michael jackson but smokey have the feeling in his voice.

  • This is a much smarter and appreciative Blog for this song. Smokey wrote this song in 1959, on a shoe-string budget to record it. He had a simple rhytthm section backing him. Jackson5 did it 10 years later when Motown had grown to a $100 million dollar company w/unlimited resources for top arrangers, orchestra, and advanced mixing. Smokey is credited by Berry Gordy and music critics for inventing the Motown Sound, including this song included, and he deserves his due.

  • the arangement n music is a small part

    nomata wot

u cn tel mjs voice is so much beta n clearer

he had more control and maturity and soul

    at such a young age

  • this is amazing! i love smokey, love the miracles i definitely love the jackson 5 version alot better but i cant compare them too much bcuz theyre sang so diffrently....

    RIP Mj <3

  • wow this is great, but u love the way Michael sang it!

lil Michael made this song sound amazing!

    <3

  • The way he phrases and his sound is so great,it's bringing us to the roots of BLUES...

  • i wonder what smokey thought when he first heard michael sing this song for the first time... i wish i could of been there to see his face,

  • omg yeah

    he woulda freaked lol

    amazin so much beta

more mature soulful cleraer and greater control...at such a young age and new to the biz

stunnin as i thought it was, hearin this onli makes me luv mjs version even more and apreciate it greater

and im shocked it was only a b side :(

4 sure would have been another number 1

kinda has a dirty dancing sound to it kinda

  • this is a good song =D

  • sorry smokey. but MJ sounds better on this track.but you sound good to

  • Mj's is good but sounds more like a pop song,

Smokey is the best because it comes from the heart!

    thanks SMOKEY !

  • i don't agree with u.. the jackson 5's version doesn't sound like pop, but very blues-like

  • n beta

  • you just say that cause MJ died and you feel bad

don't get me wrong Micheal had he's hits too

but with Smokey you can hear pure heart & soul

something you know only the american negro has

  • Comment removed

  • are you saying that MJ wasnt an american negro. Seriously, listen to the way MJ sang it. Listen to the power in his voice in the opening phrase, and the way he executed the different runs. Those just ooze heart & soul. Surely, you would think that the adult would sing it that way, but smokey didn't. Smokey cried out the song while MJ WAILED it out. A boy singer usually never sings so powerfully. Plus, listen to how every singer sings it today, usually direct copies of the way MJ sang it.

  • @aGniOmDe so agree.. it seems that most people felt MJ's version more than smokeys

  • "something you know only the american negro has"

    LOL

  • this is just a lovely sound

  • this shit hits hard....

  • Smokey Robinson is an amazing lyricist and a great talent. It takes a great artist to give away some of the hits that he wrote for other artists. Michael Jackson definitely made this song more memorable than he did. Strange as it may seem, that little kid seemed much more passionate.

  • smokey is a talented writer. without him many old time motown groups wouldnt have their top hits !

  • I think this version sounds more desperate than the Jacksons version. It would fit better in a musical. I prefer the Jackson version for just listening.

  • too strong to be a mere, almost forgetten b-side. crazy!!!!!

  • it's ALL GOOD if it's SMOKEY.....

  • MJ Tore this up and Sewed it back up. No to Smokey

  • mj ALWAYS had a talent 4 that among hes other abilities

to take something and TRUELY make it hes own

truely unique, different,so much so he could do a cover version and many not realise,or know its the same song

    exceedin the original

    more control

takin inspiration and influences and takin it 2 a whole other level

  • OMG.

Not bagging you Smokey - you are good. But OMG Michael was wayy BETTER ! daym now I know the difference. Michael is soo talented.

  • It took me along time to get the original artist that did this song first. I could remember it being done when I first went into the Army, but the artist escaped me. Now I know why I liked it so much, it was did by Smokey.

I like Michael's version, both are unique in their own way by both artist.

  • its the first time i hear who's loving you sung by the miracles; i have always heard the one from the jackson five

and i must admit that both of them rock!! i mean, the smokey's version brings out the reality and the sadness of the song; and when michael sings it its much more innocent, like when he says : heres the story of a girl i met in school one day during ..sandbox..

  • I fell more sadness on Smokey's version which makes the song great too.

Maybe Michael's infant voice made the song to loose the originality and the whole idea. But also made it more innocent.

Michael's voice was way better imo.

  • WOW, michael killed this version!! not just him, but the rest of the j5 gave it more life!! maybe cuz they were younger, but still, this is great version as well!! so beautiful <3

  • there was so many emotions going through me when smokey said michael blew him away when he did it and he couldnt believe michael was only 10

  • this song was written by smokey. jackson 5 covered it

  • MJ takes this song to a whole new place and rips it....

  • That's interesting because that's the way that I feel when Smokey sings it. They're both great

  • They both did a phenominal job!! Michael was so young when he did it! Thats what's impressive.

  • Go Smoke! Sound good to me!

  • Oh, Smokey! You bring out the sadness in this song. When i listen to Michael sing it, I think- Wow! Amazing voice-great delivery! When Smokey sings it, I think-Wow! he put the feelings to music so well, I feel like I'm crying inside, for all those, including myself, who have ever wondered Who's loving you...And I just gotta say -Smokey was first class in honoring Michael's version of the song!

  • Wow, I didn't know he wrote this song until he said so at the funeral. I like the jackson 5 version better. Or the En Vogue version, lol

  • me either

  • Smokey is one of the best Song Writers that has ever lived. Everybody sang his songs. Google him.

Btw, Michael, Shaheeh & the Temps belted this one out & did supeb jobs too,but this is my favorite. But that's not to take anything away for anyone.

What's really funny is how people tell him that he's singing Michael's song when, in fact, Michael is singing Smokey's song but, hey, It's all good. Check out Smokey on here singing "Oooh Bay Baby" It's off the chain. Peace

  • There are writers of song and singers of music !! The writers deserve the credit as well as performers !! Music seems to make our world go round regardless of who performs the songs !! Music brings all of us closer together ! Music is art just like a painting no one should judge !! Being creative should never have to questioned but simply embraced ! Greatness could never be accomplished if greatness feared the possibility to fail !!!!

  • sooo true!!!

  • While MJ's version was a major improvement of the original version by Smokey Robinson and the Mircacles, keep in mind Smokey wrote and recorded this song in 1959 (Michael was barely a year old when it was released as the b-side selection of The Miracles's first big hit, Shop Around. .

  • Amazingly enough you should give Terence Trent D"Arby's version a listen.

  • I prefer one million times the MJ's version. That version is the better than this.. This is too slow. Michael is the best!

  • This is the same tempo...

  • I love this song! I'm an m.j fan so it might be biased but i think michael jackson's version is better :)

  • yea i have to say, Michael Jackson totally killed this song, over Smokey. And don't get me wrong...i LOOOVE smokey... but even smokey said that Michael took that song to another level, even as a 10 year old lol

  • Yeah I have to agree Mike KILLED it!

  • Does that mean MJ's version is better or worse ? I don't understand your term "Killed"

  • MJ's version was great!

  • it means mj's was WAAAAy BETTER!!

  • COSIGN. Ironically, when I hear this song, I think of that little girl Jamia Simone Nash and love it. Just learned of Shaheen Jafargholi via the Memorial and was pleased. Smokey is well Smokey, but my favorite of all time is Michael Jackson. Rest In Peace - We Love you Mike.

  • as young as i am i love Smokey and all the other oldskool acts. especialy doo wop for some reason. n i'm 14 by the way

  • Thanks for your comments, I appreciate your interest in this music!

  • this is the first time I heard this version... smokey's voice is magic!

  • I'd listen to Smokey clip his toenails. He could fart some of these currents singers out of the water.

  • haha!

  • i love smokey robinson and the miracles, but i think i like the j5 version. i guess, bc that was the first version of the song i heard

  • thankz i love how smokey sings it. we use to dance slow and close back in the day off of this song . i mean real close!!!!

  • With the way music is distributed today, and myself growing up in the 'cassette era', I appreciate learning where the actual recording came from. I remember singles coming out with random B-sides on the flipside, and someone to point out the historical significance is a thumbs up in my book. Thank you for this, from the bottom of my heart.

  • Hey joelvinson, you're quite welcome. I feel it's important to know the history behind the songs, so I try to share whatever info I have about these songs.

  • Motown often had artists cover each other's songs as album cuts. I generally prefer the original, but the Jackson 5 version of this is awesome too. and made "I want you back " a double sided hit single.

  • Wow, how many people sung this song.

  • listen to he Temps with David singing this song.......

  • many and they are still singing it. I remember this from the 5th grade. My friend's mother couldn't stand it. We played it to death for her benefit.

  • nice post !

  • Terrence Trent D'Arby covered this song and nailed it. This version is too slow. And the J5 nailed it as well. A faster tempo is what it needed ...this sounds like a funeral dirge!

  • Hey Bank Man In you're Chicago Music Tribute do have Anything by the Impressions and the Flamingos ?? Or even the Moonglows.

  • Bank Man I have a request please post I Cry thats a Miracles classic. The Pleading in Smokey's Voice and the Miracles very beautiful Voices.

  • O.K. Wehategod, I'll do it right after I finish the Chicago music tribute that I'm doing now. I have that song.

  • Yes..smokey was the poet who wrote it ...but his heart was almost as big as his talent. He gave this beautiful poetry to many. That is just the way he was. It will covered...forever.

  • I love this song. Smokey was Motown ,) He wrote most of the music put out. I like the cover by the Jackson 5, but the song is to mature for me to take it seriously by them ,)Thanks for putting it up...AWESOME.

  • smokey must have been the original singer because he mention that smokey wrote the song i like the jachson 5 verison better.

  • The MIRACLES' Original version is BETTER. The Jackson Five sound like a bunch of shrill- sounding kids. (I wonder why) . Besides,WHAT IN THE WORLD COULD KIDS THAT AGE KNOW ABOUT HEARTBREAK? ("I gave her my cookies!!").

  • Brotha William, I beg to differ even at such a young age Micheal Jackson was very gifted. I'm a diehard Smokey Robinson fan for life. Like yourself I sing as much Smokey karaoke as I can. Later brotha. young man

  • lol they were kids but michael sang that song like a man, don't take any credit away from them.

  • Rechannelled stereo version! Lol!!

  • Are you serious?? This was, is, and always will be Smokey's song!! Mikey's version is ok, but I believe Smokey when he sings it, I don't believe Michael at all.

  • And now Jamia and many others. This is the first time I've heard this, the original version. Played Shop Around lots, but never got around to flipping it over. My loss.

  • This is a great song, but it's little Michael that makes my heart melt when he sings this =)

  • Maybe it's me but listen to version posted by vickie569... it sounds more like the original to me ...this sounds slower and lower.

  • I agree about the sound. Can't explain it except that Berry Gordy was known to play fast and loose with recordings and performances. You know, one thing in one region of the US, something different in another

  • The terence trent d'arby version is my favourite

  • It's nice, but the Jackson 5 version is still my favorite. It's something about how MJ injects his voice and whole heart into a song. Even though he was only 11 and knew nothing about love or dating, you believed his heart was really broken.

  • it's my favorite too, and you're right he was too young to be singing about half the things he was singing about.

  • NICE!

Love Claudette coming in at the very end. :)

  • Love It!..

    :)
