very excellient job on the music and sticking and stuff....but the only thing i would do differently would be to hold the mallets farther down...but that's about it.
Encore Nanae Mimura mallets--I think they were the 3's? I wouldn't use them if I were going to perform this now. I'd recommend Keiko Abe or Ludwig Albert mallets.
hey good job overall although you didnt stick exactly to the music it was good. i just performed this yesterday in miami at State solo and Ensemble and recieved a superior with distinction. and i worked with Rollins College proffessor Beth Gottlieb. and i can tell ya at 2:02 that section should be louder than hell beth said to "break bars" at 2:10 you gotta make that get soft where it sounds like nothing because the next phrase should pop up out of nowhere. just mess with the phrasing. great job

love to work with you... i am based out of chicago... get a hold of me if your interested. my students are all at the top 5 music schools in the country
great job! ...where did you find this music though? I have been trying to find it recently and i can't at all! i want to play this piece and would have to start it now to have it ready for competition later on this year...
Keiko Abe has two books of marimba works: Works for Marimba and Works for Solo Marimba (both are actually for solo marimba). Prism is in Works for Solo Marimba.
If I were to play it again, I'd use Keiko Abe or Ludwig Albert mallets.
i recently performed this piece, and the only suggestion i can make is that near the end when you have the octave g's and then do the inner triangles, when you slow down there you lose a little momentum in a tense part of the piece.
Good job. Very smooth performance. I have video in which Keiko Abe played Prism herself. She said she used this music to warm herself up everyday. Interesting to know that...
I did this piece a couple of years ago, and I reckon your performance is great! Except the beginning and end sections; they are weirder bits of music but racing through them as quickly as possible is far from convincing. Spend more time, indugle a bit more maybe, pretend you love those passages as much as the tasty middle? As for sticks I would maybe not go any harder - Daniella Ganeva pointed out to us once in a masterclass 'we have xylophones to sound like xylophones'...
Encore Mimura 3's. I tried the 2's and they were WAY too abrasive in the low range. I did think the 3's lost a few notes in the extreme high range, but for the majority of the instrument, they got a full sound with a good articulation to keep things both rich and clear.
my friend is doing this piece along with 4 rotations for his cadets audition. He interestingly ends with a Perfect fourth on the tonic at the end, i suggest giving it a try. also try to do more the accelerando at the begginning and loosen up those arms. you want them to look like their just along for the ride. Otherwise steller performanced that would merit at least a 2 at any division 1 corps audition.
haha right when you started playing, i recognized your technique. when your face finally appeared on the screen, it only solidified my guess. looks like you've gotten a haircut since your days back at GRYWE!
(this is elliott from GRYWE by the way)
how is north texas? looks like youre having a good time. i'm currently in the college hunt myself, so I would love to know your opinion on UNT.
Amazing!!! Your hands are really fast and accurate! The only thing I would suggest is to hold back on your mallets

Keiko takes the opening and closing about that speed. :-P Overall, my performance is 17 seconds longer.
bac0139 5 years ago
Sounds like she uses harder mallets, too, although the YM-6000 has noticeably thicker keys.
bac0139 5 years ago
very good but try using some harder mallets.. what kind did u use for this

very cool, nice job. really. how long have you been playing?
malletstud 5 years ago
I guess I've been playing music for about 12 years now, but percussion for seven.
As for Prism, I learned it a while back and have just recently been working it back up.
