@tegomassai No, there was 2006 movie called "Silent Hill" that was inspired by Centralia. That's why the title of this video is "footage from the REAL silent hill"
my friends and i have been going there for the past five years. we are local residents and live about an hour away. just recently got a citation for trespassing on private property for $250.
Hey everybody - I have just released my new album 'Unhinged' which is heavily inspired by music from games like the Silent Hill series. You can check it out on my youtube channel and also download it for free!
It's an alright presentation, but at the beginning you should have given a more in-depth history of what the cause was and how the mine fire started. Not enough is explained. People who don't live in PA might be a little confused.
Was just there last week. So surreal. The ground is insanely hot, whoever was doubting the match lighting in this video. I didn't try it, but definitely believe it's possible.
Message to all Silent Hill fans and for you that haven't heard about this amazing game. SilverWorldEntertainment is going to release to full Fan Made Silent Hill Movie and have now released the Fan Made Movie trailer. Come and check it out! It's really great. Just search for SilverWorldEntertainment, or Silent Hill The Missing Link to see it! You may also copy and paste this link
I went there and then I saw that something was moving in one house so I left I was so scared because when I was leaving all my tires popped no holes or anything thank god for spare tires!
:D I love Centralia. I've been going there since the movie came out. Only an hour and a half drive from where I'm at in PA. I highly suggest at least driving through it once to feel the history behind it. Try to go on a rainy day if you want to see a lot of smoke rising. Gives ya that silent hill feeling.
@88osprey There aren't really many abandoned buildings at least as of last time I was there. There are a few but when I went there last a couple families still occupied the houses on the street perpendicular to the township building. If I'm not mistaken I believe the last of them finally moved out? Then again people have been saying that for years now without any source so when spring comes around I'll head back down there again. On a rainy/cloudy day you can get some deep pictures.
@88osprey Good picture to take if referencing Silent Hill while you are there is the Sirens on top of the township building. Old school they look like the ones on top of the church in the movie. Just as well up the hill from that building is another cemetary. You can also get a good look of the town from the road up there. Just be careful if you see any state police out, rumor is they've been running people out of there but I've gone a dozen times now and haven't had any trouble.
Hey guys, check out my short film Silent Hill: Stolen Heart (click on my username to watch) and let me know what you think! Shot in what I would consider to be a MAJOR inspiration for the Silent Hill game developers - an abandoned mining town in Japan!
omfg its looks so dreary. just like silent hill.... I looked up centralia on google maps and looked at it through street view, its so stormy like in this vid. sorta sad D:
@stargirl7778910 well the story is that the volunteer fire dept was to burn the trash but they didn't know that there was a mine seam at the exact spot where the burn was. remember they didn't have the advanced technology we do today. it is a very sad event indeed but who knows if it could have been prevented.
@themooseisontheloose ooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhh ok i didnt know that. i played silent hill (the movie) at my halloween party and told my friends that the location was based off of a reall town and they were so shocked.
i live in shenandoah which is 10 miles away...Centralia was the inspiration for silent hill...if you wiki centralia it tells you that...its creepy there
You shouldnt build anything there, just leave it be.. dont make it owrst. Who would work there anyway?.. Unless you're flat out stupid. Hope the ground falls if its built.
I still love this video and I still want to go there, I saw recent photos of the roads, people marking them up so others would know they were there, that's just rude in my opinion. All in all, I love this video. ^_^
yeah i know, the 8th silent hill is supposed to come out this October i think. i will get it asap. silent hill 2 has gotten the best ratings and i really liked it too. so i would really like to visit this place sometime and just explore. with a stick though.
yes it does cause polution coal gives off methane gas when it is burned, it is toxic and you would have to live there and breathe it in constantly to get sick from it. but there are about 3 or 4 people who still reside there, why i do not know but the rest of the town has cleared out due to the health dangers.
My dad was actually going to take me there last year but he read that it wasnt safe. And that the ground could collapse in...would have been cool i live near it to!:( damn
but it is pretty cool. i saw the comment about it "not being steam" coming from the wholes in the ground, wellall i can say is that might be true further down the road but where i was every smoking whole i put my hand close to was soaking wet and damp the second i placed it near it. so it is deff steam but thats probably only because of the water that runs through the ground also, those whole in the ground act as a spout would on a T kettle
i was just up there today i only live a short hr from the place. wasnt silent hill a game back in like 2000 though? thought thats where the movie came from. but deff is a creepy place anything that has just been abandoned like that is creepy. just empty roads with no houses its like a community missing the homes lol.
Also route 61 is way more collasped and seperated then it was in this film. I was actually in shock to see how much bigger the gap in the road was and how much more the road was subsided
was there today first time in over a year. The white house on the main road is now gone also. All that remains is the green house and a house directly across from that one and another house on the other side of 61 aswell as the municpal building. Thats it. And still smoking heavy everywhere.
Something erie about that place. You know the story yet the only thing to be asked is "what the hell happened here". Like something out of a movie, a completely decimated and lifeless town, rubble and dirbs everywhere with smoke (not steam) rising from every crack between every rock with large charred holes lined by dead trees. @sahandn9 I know you were probably joking, but there's too much carbon monoxide, and the coal fire has weakened the ground significantly (note the sign at 1:57). It's just not safe there.
@sahandn9 that's a great idea, with all the new ways to go green they could recyle all of that fuel...but then the gov will bitch we have no money, so they can use that money for something useless...it would creat a few hundred jobs tho...hmmm think think...
@ShAdOwRaiDeR69 actually Centralia didn't inspire game it inspired the silent hill move but there a movie called Jacob ladder is what actually inspire the game
they are poeple waiting for these poeple to leave then they are going to set off a bomb and make billions off the coal that they get out. . BUT WHAT THE HELL IS THIS ... did you know we are shipping 85 % of our coal overseas...... AND get this also in 1990 poeple there are not allowed to pay there property taxes. since the state of pa owns there homes.
i have been looking into centralia. if you have any questains just ask.

No, el RE es mejor, por eso siguen haciendo películas, mientras que el SH es un desastre, se piensan que sólamente con miedo van a superar a la acción del RE.
DO YOU KNOW THAT. IGNORANTE, HAY MÁS IDIOMAS QUE EL INGLÉS, PERO COMO LOS YANKEES SON TAN IGNORANTES QUE NO SALEN DE ESTADOS UNIDOS Y EUROPA, Y NI SIQUIERA SABEN USAR UN TRADUCTOR.... ANDÁ A COMER A MC DONALD'S, OBESA.
@903harman Its estimated to continue to burn for 250 years. Its coal dude, thats what we use coal for... to burn it. Its also a massive seam, that they can't isolate due to cost.
lol I live about 10 minutes away from Centralia in Frackville. I guess its fairly interesting, but it is strange to sometimes see people from ridiculous places like washington and minnesota coming to see it. I can tell you the match thing is not true, and there are about 10 people living there. The town is basically reserved for teenagers like myself to go to party, because there are no cops there lol.
Hey Everybody! I have just released my new electronic album “Sub-Zero” which is heavily influenced by the world of Silent Hill and the music of Akira Yamaoka. If you're interested you can listen to the full album on my youtube channel, as well as download the album for free!
@jason854656 Look it up on wikipedia. It's about something that the government wants the minerals under the city.
some residents have chosen to stay, believing that the evacuation is a conspiracy plot by the state to obtain their mineral rights to the anthracite coal reserves below their homes. Smells like lawyers to me.

@AnGeLaXl521
No, el RE es mejor, por eso siguen haciendo películas, mientras que el SH es un desastre, se piensan que sólamente con miedo van a superar a la acción del RE.

its still fucking burning what the fuck?!
903harman 8 months ago
@903harman Its estimated to continue to burn for 250 years. Its coal dude, thats what we use coal for... to burn it. Its also a massive seam, that they can't isolate due to cost.
abubacar 8 months ago
@abubacar damn i mean if they actually took the time to turn it off instead of letting it burn, that is like billions of dollars burning away.

the town was the inspired setting for the movie, not the game. The game is based on a movie called "Jacobs Ladder"

lol I live about 10 minutes away from Centralia in Frackville. I guess its fairly interesting, but it is strange to sometimes see people from ridiculous places like washington and minnesota coming to see it. I can tell you the match thing is not true, and there are about 10 people living there. The town is basically reserved for teenagers like myself to go to party, because there are no cops there lol.
tmart1993 8 months ago
@tmart1993 Kinda a serious question but, is the crime rate high in that area?
MeganMoriyama 8 months ago
@MeganMoriyama
There's 10 people there XD
But grr, I hope people don't party there :\
Ruins the silent hill atmosphere.

Hey Everybody! I have just released my new electronic album “Sub-Zero” which is heavily influenced by the world of Silent Hill and the music of Akira Yamaoka. If you're interested you can listen to the full album on my youtube channel, as well as download the album for free!

I disliked this video because of the childish attempt to fool the viewer at 3:40.

ive read that theres very very few people living there? that they refuse to leave due to some conspiracy thing that they believe in ?
jason854656 9 months ago
@jason854656 Look it up on wikipedia. It's about something that the government wants the minerals under the city.
some residents have chosen to stay, believing that the evacuation is a conspiracy plot by the state to obtain their mineral rights to the anthracite coal reserves below their homes. Smells like lawyers to me.
