Nice video, ideal depth for this car. I wouldn't drive my RAV4 any deeper than this :) I'd prefer to drive a little bit slower as the air intake is just behind the left headlight and water level should be avoided to reach to grill and headlight.
A Rav4 gen1 (automatic) can run on floods reaching almost it's headlights without any snorkels. I know, I have experienced it. No one crossing, so me being an underdog, showed them, it's pretty cute, knowing that a small 3-door Rav4 gen1 can cross a 300M stretch of leg-leveled flood. :)
@cristinanit It's true it's not very difficult, I also never stated that, but it still is a running river. And i wouldn't do it with a fiat 500. You could try, that would be interesting....
Nice video! I am going to Iceland soon and checking the river has been very helpful. Was that a rented car? Which road did you take? How man y rivers like this do I have to cross to get to Landmannalaugar hot springs? Thanks!
@Franzolh2o Yes that's a rental car. Be carefull because normally river crossings aren't ensured with a rental car. We came from the north by road 208, but ofcourse there are other acces roads. Via 208 there are only 2 crossings, this one on the video and the other right besides it. They are at landmannalaugar. You can also park your car before the crossings and go on by foot. Road F225 has several more. They are not too big, but 4x4 is advised. Enjoy your trip, it's a wonderfull place.
@Shadowtel Thanks for your answer! I knew the insurance did not cover, that's why I asked if it was a rental. You are a brave guy! I will all also be renting a Rav4 and following your advice I will take F208 from the north instead of F225. I would like to go from there to Kirkjubaejarklaustur via Eldjia and Holaskjol (F208 to the south), but maybe it is too tricky. Thanks for your really valuable information! Best regards from Spain.
@TylerWRei I believe you are right, landmannalaugar is very beautful. I recommend everybody a visit. Unfortunately I have only pictures. Maybe I could make a slideshow.
Rav4 is not for off roading. Buy real 4x4 or stay out of it. Period.
