  • where did you get yours sleeve?

  • I plan on getting one of these as soon as the long gun registry is gone. Up here in Canada a remington 870 or mossberg 500 aren't as affordable as they are in the states but these go for like $220.

  • I used to have two of these, one with 28in bbl, and the other 18in. Really good shotguns here.

  • Just cut it down to 18" slapped on a heat shield, and a pistol grip I love it. I take it everywhere! I own a convenience store in a rough part of town and when I get home I have three children and my lady to protect.

  • Nice radio/tape cassette in the background. Your dad get that in the phillipenes/ korea?

  • Just got mine today, Walmart $177

  • @ohyeamain is it badass??

  • i rly want one of these but unfortunately i only have 100 to spend glad u did this gun justice though

  • I got mine used at Gander for $179 with both barrels and the factory sticker, the thing had been fired only a few times & was spotless. Only problem I have with it is that occasionally it jams. It seems like it has to be cleaned every 50-75 shots or the slide will start to lock shut & need a serious wiggling to break free. any ideas as to what else could cause this, or does it really jam just from being dirty?

  • @SnowWolfJones hello, dirtiness can be 1 cause but not the only, there could be a problem with the ammo your using, some shotguns are picky from what i hear, Winchester universals are known to expand and jam up, even tho i use them all the time in my benelli without a problem, and if it needs to be cleaned that much thats not normal at all, i can shoot my super nova and 500, 300 times without cleaning it and it will still go, maybe you just got a problem gun, i recommend a moss500

  • @CryptWarrior69 i definitely plan on getting a 500 someday

  • I recently purchased one at excellent NRA grade for 145 USD online and cant wait its coming in 2 days :[)

  • I bought mine for $150 at academy

  • i bought mine for 170 ilove acadamy

  • just purchased one of these at Academy for 159$

  • @jeredsbohn Thumbs up for Academy. They have the best price around for this gun.

  • Considering purchasing one of these, so thanks for the video and info. I prefer the crossbolt safety, so that is a definite plus.

  • I have one and it really is an awesome firearm for the price. Affordable and dangerously effective.

  • I have one got it for 189.00 Cash. I have a couple different shot guns and I love the no-nonsense attitude of this gun. Great gun.

  • like the video i just bought one of these shotguns for home defense the other day and can't wait to take it out and have some fun with it but the video was a very useful tool on getting info on the gun in general on how it works, and ppl opinions on it.

  • LOL when you put the shell into the magazine, I was like, oh shit, please don't tell me that's a live round!

  • @111dogon555 They are used shells

  • 500/88 wins hands down to an 870 with dual extractors when compared to 870 single extractor then you have the stupid lifter flap on the 870, you can get a shell stuck under there very easy on the 870 not good. I bought my second 88 for $100 even at a pawn shop

  • dang miller how did i miss this video i'm going to pick one asap

  • just got one with the 24" barrel and payed 370 euros for it.... i want us prices here too!!!!!

  • Just got the tactical 18.5" for 189 at sports authority

  • mine was $160.00.....=]

  • gotta admit the maverick surprised me. I paid around 200 bucks for mine and it truly is a solid shotgun.

  • I still consider it a TRUE mossy. If u break down a 500 and an 88 EVERY part is the same except the trigger group. ALL parts will interchange

  • Is it any good for dove season?

  • @OMLJ0512 With the right loads and barrel yes. The 18.5 inch isn't ideal but will do the job in a pinch

  • Dude! You make that tactical reloading your bitch!

  • Nice review...

  • you do a very great job of explaining and going over the weapon. kudos

  • millerusaf has sold me another weapon I didn't know I needed. Thanks again.

  • Hey bud! I saw all your shotgun videos they're great. Just thinking, Don't you like a flashlight mounted in your shotgun? and How about a side saddle? It may help in tactical reloads.

  • everybody says the 88 is cheaper than the 500, and that they are garbage, ok they mayc b cheaper, but there the same action! so wth! dirt cheap shotgun that will take a beatting n never fail you, i myself and a win 1300 fan, but im looking foreward to buying an 88!

  • picked up a maverick 88 about a week ago and love it but the recoil is rough on the shoulder the first time u fire it

  • Just got one 2day!

  • have this shotgun I love it

  • Hello folks, hello millerusaf (thanx for your great vids)

shot maverick 88 for the 1st time. Liked the gun at first sight for its simplicity. Used 12*70 32g Slug SAGA. and hit the target accurately (25m). the recoil is tough ! had to stop after 20 rounds, then shot a remington 870 for comparison. same weight as the 88 but little smoother. with little experience ihave the 88 has a rough character and is a great deal for swiss highpriced gunmarket ( around CHF500! with stock)

  • Very nice video man! Love the Mossbergs. For home protection, I prefer the 88 over the higher dollar Mossbergs because of the placement of the safety. The tang mounted safety complicates things to me in a situation where I need to go hot while keeping my finger and hand situated for immediate action.

  • Got this same shotgun for my son when he got his own place...Great inexpensive 12gauge...Nice review....

  • Which would you pick over this or the pardner pump 12 gauge?Or is it the old 870 vs mossberg 500 debate again?I heard the pardner pump is actually better made than the 870 express today, but the maverick 88 has duel extractors for the shells where the pardner pump like the 870 only has 1

  • Chuck Norris shoots a maverick 88.

  • I own a Maverick 88, and it is one of the better shotguns I have ever owned. I paid $125 for it at a local pawn shop. It stays beside my bed at night, and I couldn't ask for a better night watchman.

  • Saw one today at Wally's for $177.00. Almost bought it. Think I'll go back tomorrow. Thanks for the review.

  • Excellent review, thanks!

  • I paid 100 at my local pawn shop and it was in amazing condition. Worth it!!

  • I paid $205 out the door for my Maverick 88 and I love it.

  • I like the cross-bolt safety. It's probably just psychological, but it feels safer to me than the tang safety. Good review.

  • Hey what do you think about that lee shot gun shell press

  • Great vid, welcome home Miller!

  • picked one up the other day for $187

  • Been using mine to destroy the dreaded "flying clay zombies" for years... as for bang for the buck, its tough to beat.

  • Glad to see you back safe Miller. Good review on a no-nonsense shotgun, well done.

  • i had been seeing 88s in my area for 200 and after having researched it i decided to get one, and always, when you have the cash what you want is gone lol, so i went with a mossberg 500 and love it, but virtualy the same weapon as you said aside from the safety, and some of the parts on the 88 are made in mexico, but i would buy one if i ever had need of a 2nd shotgun

  • @scarecrow1307 also the metal used in the 88 is lighter than the 500 series

  • @malinois404 the metal used to build the 88 is exactly the same as a 500. they are not different. the only difference is the trigger group and the forend

  • @1979aerocaprice so why is it so much cheaper and lighter? just so i want spread the wrong info

  • @malinois404 its not any lighter. it weighs the same as a 500. the reason its cheaper is because some of the parts (trigger group being one) are made in mexico. the whole gun is still assembled in america. it costs less to have parts made in mexico so therefore the gun costs less.

  • @malinois404 and really they arent that much cheaper than a 500. everywhere i have seen them 500's are around 279 for the persuader and the maverick persauder is like 239

  • @1979aerocaprice man where do yall live i need to come there. Because in ATL if u thinking about getting any gun for that cheap its going to be a high point lol a 500 for $280 is not happening anywhere.

  • @malinois404 im in ohio. i see them everywhere for that price lol. used is 200 even or less all day for a 500 and new is 269-299

  • Good review. I've used a Mossberg 500 for 15 years - no complaints so far.

  • Glad to see you made it back safe buddy. Keep up the good videos.

  • i like mossberg more than remington

  • Welcome back kid , and "thank-you" for your service !!!.

  • I love my 88. Had it for 14 years now. Threw a Choate top folder on, Hiviz front sight, a leapers shot tube mounted tri-rail and a light. Ready for the Zombie invasion!! (Thanks for representing the much under appreciated mossy Mav 88. Miller; you rock!)

  • Bought mine for $180 (case model). Only thing I don't like about them is the sticker, they say American made, well yes they are assembled in the US but the parts are made in Mexico.

  • I've been trying to decide if I want to sell my 88 or not. I got it for free, thinking of turning it in to a project shotgun. 28" barrel is way too long for my purposes.

  • I have one and it works for me. NEVER had a problem out of mine, which is all that you can ask for.

  • This is why i like your vids man you know what your talking about and you show affordable options. welcome home by the way

  • i like my Remington 870 tactical 12 gauge

  • i have that same gun but mine is a 500 looks identical though....and yes great gun

  • There is nothing wrong with "bottom of the barrel". A wise man once said "it is the bottom of the barrel that supports all the weight."

There is nothing wrong with it!

  • Awsome vid. Looks like a really good gun. Can't wait to see your range vid with it.

  • Great vid! Mossberg is a good all round carry gun! GOD BLESS!

  • It absolutely kills me how some "gun gurus" think that unless a guy spends a ridiculous amount of money on one of the "high end" guns like a Remy, Benelli, etc., he's got a sub standard weapon that is "bottom of the barrel". NOTHING could be farther from the truth! I love that you review these lower cost weapons to SHOW people they dont have to spend big bucks for good protection. I have an 88, and I also have a tricked out 870... the 88 shoots just as good, and didnt cost NEAR as much.

  • @agcatdriver True that. I own a nice Benelli 12 gauge also, and the Benelli beats out the Maverick 88 on looks and ergonomics, and it can shoot 3.5 inch magnums, but that stuff isn't a need when it comes to defensive shotgun work.

I would gladly put anyone to task with a Maverick 88.

  • @millerusaf I noticed in your shell strap you have low brass what looks like target rounds, you're going to want a 2 3/4 or 3 inch buckshot or slugs whatever you prefer. I'm sorry but birdshot isn't going to cut it.

  • @jake51515 Yep. I normally run 00 buck made by either Hornady (TAP) or Winchester Ranger. I run slugs made by Federal.

  • @millerusaf Yeah personally i like remington slugs and winchester buck when i shoot i only shoot those because they're teh actual shell if you know what i mean. But they're also cheap! :)

  • Welcome back, glad your safe. How many of the Mossberg aftermarket parts will work on the 88? Stocks, sidesaddles and whatnot.

  • @beaker126 Most stuff made for the Mossberg 500 will fit on the Maverick 88.

  • @beaker126 all but the fore end will work as far as I know for externals, some internal trigger parts are polymer on the 88 that are metal on the 500 from what I understand. I haven't done a side by side comparison yet personally though

  • @beaker126 the only parts that are not interchangable between the 88 and the 500 are the trigger assembly and the pump. stocks, barrells and tube mags work with either

  • Looks like a great shotgun for a good price! I love budget firearms.

  • hey i have one identical to that got it a few years back for christmas, I use it for the michigan firearm deer season, and sucessfully got my buck using a slug with it. Then gun itself handles firing slugs wonderfully

  • great job on keeping us informed on the inexpensive/quality firearms out there.

  • Got my Mosin, but I already have a NEF 12guage single shot, I might pick this Maverick. The NEF is just too light for Mag loads, I can only get through 5 before my shoulder hates me.

  • Got the same one three years ago.. It's a great shotgun.

  • hey! you know it.

  • I think I would prefer the safety on this one over both the typical Mossberg safety and the Rem 870 safety. The weird location of the 870 safety is the only thing I don't like about them, and I've never been fond of the Mossberg tang safety either. I'm gonna have to get one of those now!

  • hey hey there he is glad to see you back and safe yeah the maverick 88 is a solid contender ive got a couple mossberg 500's buck have shot a couple maverick's and they are great shotguns for the most part so either way cant go wrong plus you can put mossberg barrels and such on a maverick so anyone take care

  • I own a maverick 88 6 shot with the 18.5 inch barrel. Ive examined a mossberg 500 and it feels and looks like the same gun to me, except the forend does not have a metal slide tube, and the safety is obviously different. i love my shotgun its just tough as a 500 IMO.

  • I have the field version. Been duck hunting with it for years and years and the thing still is kicking. Never a hicup that I can think of.

  • So why is this less than 200.00 at times, but a Moss 500 is over 300.00 when there is hardly any difference?

  • Anybody that bitches about a Mossberg pump probably wears designer jeans too.If you have the money to blow and just want to spend it thats fine.Buy a Browning.Buy a Remington.Buy a Benelli. But I guarantee that if you pull the trigger on the Mossy its gonna fire just the same.It just might not look as pretty on the gunrack. And I really dont sweat it getting banged around like I would my 1100.Just chunk it 'hind the seat of the truck and ride out.

  • hey man welcome back

  • Hey, dude, good to see you back home. You dont plan to go again there overseas, dont you?

  • I'm turning 18 in 4 months and would you recommend this as a first gun?

  • @34601k first gun???? get a M44 mosin nagant. 100 bucks, ammo is cheap and it's an investment. come a decade it may be worth a whole lot more. what mroe can you want..big bullet, very reliable, easy to replace parts, VERY easy to work on as a new gun owner and clean etc.....my first gun was a M44, can you tell? lol

  • @67mustangreg i wish they were 100 bucks still i just got one and paid 200 it was the cheapest i could find

  • @MetalJohn3 ..uhhhhhhhhh...you paid 200 dollars for a M44? what part fo the country??? at MOST they are $130 in MINT shape...I'm in Wa state

  • @67mustangreg im in ohio

  • @MetalJohn3 ..damn dude! I would try to return that as fast as possible! I would be FLABBERGHASTED if you cant look around and find a matching #'s M44 for $100-$130 at most. $200 is just crazy man.

  • @67mustangreg well if you can find me one for under 200 after shipping and ffl transfer then i would more then glad to return the one i have, they are getting harder to find in my area

  • @67mustangreg I want a moisin since its 89 bucks at the local sport shop but the nearest range that I can fire it is around 40 miles away. I'm thinking either this shotgun, a .22 plinker or a moisin. Still trying to decide though

  • i bought one for $129 bucks and ended up getting rid of it...oh how I miss it. I was suprised at how fast they went up in value. now they are priced at $189 -$220.

  • im going to get one of them at somepoint pree mosin.

  • @derekgrebner87 Your task for today is to go out and buy yourself a Mossberg 88 and a nice Mosin rifle. Tell your folks that you can't work today because I told you to do this.....

....you have 8 hours to complete this task.....

    :)

  • Got a Norinco 97 Trench..Good shotgun but looking to sell it for a Mossberg590a1 :)

  • Ive been rockin the Mossy 88 for 5 years now with no issues, cheap, well made and goes BOOM! :P

  • I'VE GOT THE 500 AND I LOVE IT ....DID'NT YOU JUST GET BACK FROM A DEPLOYMENT? IF SO WELCOME BACK...:) U.S.A.F(.RETIRED) O-4

  • The pardner pump for 199.99 , is nice because you can use the 870's parts!

  • nice to have you back

  • Great to see you back in the States again, man!

Say, regarding those slip-on shell holder sleeves, I've got a couple of them for my 11-48 and an old bolt-action shotgun, but the darned things shift around and always ride an inch or two forward the very first time you shoot them. Do you have a trick to making them stay put on there? Maybe a strip of Velcro or rubber or something underneath between the sleeve and stock to keep it from slipping forward?

  • welcome home brother

  • WB..i assume u r home.

  • That was Great!!... Never heard the bangs, only the empty's hitting the floor...LOL... Glad you're home.... Cheers.

  • You melt my heart sailor. You know I love me a 500. I know it's a "Maverick", but same damn thing. I'll post a Gator test to show you how I treat my 500. She has yet to fail me, and never will. Cheap, and American made don't happen too often.

  • Welcome Home Miller !!

  • I see you've been practicing. Looks smooth man.

  • wats the diff between this and a 500?

  • @roydied15 different safety placement, single extractor, finish is gloss not matte, thinner barrel steel and mag tube, no bayo lug, no sling attachments....but to get into a shotgun and get armed, this on works the same way....200 is a no brainer purchase decision.

  • @apocolypse1022 Whats a good price for a 500 ???

  • @apocolypse1022 haha ok. yeah 200$ is a great deal. my M500 Persuader cost 349.99 at gander mtn before tax.

  • got myself one of those, but i would rather have a higher model. like an 870, m4, or a mossberg.

  • I got screwed !! I paid 300 for mine . I still love it though .

  • @Jailawhale My bad wrong model . Someone was talking to me .

  • Nice shotgun Miller! And fast reloads!

  • You should stop buying lots of "budget guns" and invest in a few higher quality more expensive weaponry.

  • @saari09 why buy a few "nice" guns that you have to worry bout scratches/ fingerprints and other stuff when you can buy cheaper renditions that function the same if not better. may not come gold/nickel plated or engraving but work just as fine

  • @Stangtt Its Not about nickel plated, how about better functioning. You obviously have no advanced firearms training. Fear the man with one gun for he shall know how to use it. I own three guns and I could kill proficiently with any of them.

  • @saari09 better functioning is a damn lie. guess thats why i put a few thousand rounds of steel cased russian garbage 223 through my $600 home built AR without a single failure when everytime i go to range i see people with bushmasters and RRA rifles with stuck cases FTFs.. ive got a sig p2022 and a hipoint c9 9mm. and i can outshoot my dads glock with the hipoint? why do you think the AK platform is preferred over the AR.. its not for its cheaper price, its more reliable in more environments

  • @Stangtt Right. LOL

  • @saari09 in the end its about the person standing behind the gun and knowing how to use and maintain his or her firearms. not the price or the name on the side

  • @saari09 And YOU should actually take some time and LEARN a little bit about what you're talking about before you run your mouth. I've got a safe FULL of those "higher quality" weapons you're so high on. You know what? My little 88 and my home built AR shoot just as good and BETTER than my $1000 custom 870 and my Bushmaster. All my tactical training in 10 years as a police officer and firearms instructor have taught me the price of the weapon means SQUAT in the REAL world. TRAINING matters!

  • @agcatdriver Training matters, but cops should be some of the last people preaching at other people to train. As a former 0311 (Rifleman) Marine I know what it means to train. Their is a big difference between your yearly "qualification" and what I used to do day in and day out.

  • @saari09 First off, I salute you for your service in the Marines. Secondly, dont presume to know what my level of training is, or HOW I train, just because I am a law enforcement officer. I'll be the first to admit there is a sad lack of training where most officers are concerned... I however, am NOT one of them. I shoot almost daily... not some little "yearly qualification" as you put it. I instruct SWAT and SRT officers in defensive firearms training. I'm not your average "beat cop".

  • @agcatdriver Apologies for judging your level of skill when it comes to training. There are some officers who are very dedicated to what they do and how they train. Thank you for keeping the streets safe. Semper Fi.

  • nice,walmart has those...

  • nice good video A+ work

  • How does it compare to the pardner pump protector?

  • @SupremeAmerican The action is a little smoother, and the overall feel is better. Between the two, I would go with the Mav 88.

  • @SupremeAmerican ..I agree with miller. go with the 88 over a pardner. they are amde in china plus I think the 500/88 is a better basis anyway. time tested plus more parts to mod it out there.

  • @67mustangreg Yeah i got my pardner about 6 months ago, i saw an 88 for the same price and i held and tested both but the pardner seemed more solid and the ejector was a larger thicker piece than the 88's, but the pardner seems a good deal heavier too. They were both 240 after taxes and i went with the pardner, probably because im an idiot lols. I was dumb and thought more chokes would fit the pardner cuz it had a more standard barrel than the mav. I found out that was not the case lol

  • @67mustangreg I have to use browning chokes for the pardner, nef (pardner's company) doesnt make them, and remington 870 chokes dont work either (i thought they would) even though it's supposedly a clone of the 870

  • @67mustangreg Good thing tho is i put some real old and rusty duck loads in the pardner, and they fucked up and expanded in the chamber, brass and all, and i had to bang the gun on the ground to get the shell out via the extractor+pump. The extractor is huge compared to mossburg extractor so i think that saved me a trip to the gunsmith cuz it did work. Dont think the mossberg would have fared as well. Cant find a good turkey choke for this pardner tho so .. meh.

  • @67mustangreg But it is solid. the pardner. very very solid. i give it that.

  • welcome back miller

  • good to see you back home safe. i was kinda getting tired of those slide shows LOL

  • nice, and really good work on the emergency reload. Welcome back son.

  • Nice Video

  • good info nice vid!

  • Glad to see you made it back safely man. Thanks for the video.

  • first !!!! welcome back
