  • What was this bill over?

Was it a budget or was it something else?

  • and THIS is why I will be voting for Barack Obama in 2012.

....because when the Rep party does shit like this, who else is going to do a better job?

  • BUSTED

what a moron. it's too bad that righties have fully embraced lying and hypocrisy, there once was a day when people would look at this jag-off's self-humiliation and realize he isn't worth the exhaust from the north end of a south-bound mule.

  • New Hampshire Republicans are among the very worse of the breed. For example, many of them rail against "big government" and then commute to Boston everyday on subsidized highways or rail lines.

  • @KataVideo - Well said. And to think Obama wanted this jag-off to be his Commerce Secretary.

  • @KataVideo Really Hows that Obama thing working out for ya dumb fuck? You like seeing America in it's worst state EVER? You gonna vote for him again you mindless, brainwashed moron? You have the intelligence of a brick. Did you really think you could comment on my channel then block me on yours before I could respond? What a typical liberal fucking coward.

  • @Gaybasher100 worst state ever? LOL President Obama STOPPED the worst state ever and reversed the republican downward course. You call me a coward when it took you a year to work up the balls to reply? I'm laughing at you.

  • @KataVideo You saying that Obama has done well outs you as a total fact less moron. The worst unemployment in history, the worst debt in history, most suicides in history, most foreclosures in history, he released tax payer funds for worldwide abortion, he sued Arizona the fucking criminal, he has caused more racism than ever, he will crush the country with even more debt if Obamacare ever gets root. He should be impeached at the very least you idiot. You are a moron.

  • @Gaybasher100 take a pill assface. or jeremy. actually, it really doesn't matter who you are.

  • @KataVideo LOL hey cunt try to stay on subject and reply to the facts I shoved down your gay throat. It's obvious you don't know shit about politics or anything else for that matter. I will fucking destroy you and indeed I did.

  • @Gaybasher100 wow.. you want to shove things down men's throats, and you call ME gay? good luck with that serious case of denial. enjoy Obama's reelection.

  • @KataVideo Once again you reply with no facts about the POLITICS we are discussing. You are a fucking moron. I'm gonna ask you again cunt. Hows that Obama thing working out for ya dumb fuck? The worst unemployment in history, the worst debt in history, most suicides in history, most foreclosures in history, he released tax payer funds for worldwide abortion, he sued Arizona the fucking criminal, he has caused more racism than ever, Obamacare will plague the country with trillions of debt!!

  • @Gaybasher100 Sure, it's a FACT that you're deeply closeted. You're a Gay explosion waiting to happen!

  • @KataVideo LOL you still avoided the question cunt. Here it is again.

  • @Gaybasher100 I stopped debating you cunts years ago, assface (or jeremy, it really doesn't matter). you weirdos go by your own facts, and I'm not spending an hour tracking down where your weird figures come from. the fact is, you've got it all wrong. the worst unemployment was during the hoover republican depression.. the debt was run up by republican presidents.. most suicides? never heard that before. kill yourself so I can check, okay? whatever, prison bitch. no one cares about you.

  • @KataVideo You stopped debating because (like now) you are getting your moronic ass kicked. Just what you posted here outs you as a total know nothing fucking idiot. OBAMA does indeed have the record (with everything factored in) for the worst unemployment in history. Please do us all a favor and never have kids. Better yet eat shit and die please.

  • @Gaybasher100 at what, jeremy (or assface, it really doesn't matter). all you do is post nonsense and jibberish with a couple of lame insults. there's nothing to argue, you're an imbecile.

  • @KataVideo LOL I post nothing but fact and am willing to back it up. You apparently and obviously make shit up as you go along. Thats what liberals do best. They make up lies and keep telling them over and over until if becomes fact in their tiny minds.

  • @Gaybasher100 see, you just did it again

  • @KataVideo Owned you yes I know.

  • asshole

  • Did these fools think that people would not remember how many times, on how many issues, the Republicans stood in front of cameras an said, "all we want is an up or down vote, that's all the

American people want, an up or down vote."

  • The people who vote for them won't remember. The people who vote for republicans are 70-80 years old and don't remember what they had for breakfast this morning, or what the names of their grandkids are.

  • gregg is just another republican turd fast on the trail to obscurity. i've known him since we were young and he's not the brightest bulb in the chandelier.

  • "They think government creates prosperity, not people"?

Since when does the government create PEOPLE?

If you can provide Americans affordable and reliable health care insurance, and label that "government created prosperity" I'm not sure I see the down side.

  • Waffler. Seems like repubs are wafflers.

Oh, I remember, I was for it now i'm against it meme.

Back at ya repubs. Seems like now you want to deny what you have done since the 1980's.

  • Who still votes for these assclowns?

  • Where they teach that you can balance budgets by cutting taxes? I think only the Laffer School of Economics teaches that.

  • Red baiting is all you've got, is it? Oh well..

  • If you think govt. taxation in exchange for a public service which is not being effectively delivered by the private sector is an example of socialism, then the United States has been a socialist state since 1790. Deal with it.

If you think nominal redistribution of wealth is a violation of the natural rights of man, then you can go and watch Thomas Paine and Thomas Hobbes have a debate about it in the Twilight Zone. But the rest of us have to live in the real world.

  • I'm a little confused as to how our health system is broken. In the last twenty 1 year heart attack survival is up 80%; breast cancer survival has doubled; life expectancy is up 5 years.

Are you referring to the fact that 10% of our population is uninsured as a failure? 65% of those are 18-24.

If you want to increase coverage why not reduce cost by taking down the legal barriers to entry? Adding a monstrous bureaucracy will only increase cost.

  • I didn't say the health system is broken, just the HMO system. All the other developed countries provide universal coverage, with equivalent or better health outcomes at less than 10% of GDP, while the U.S.A. spends 17% GDP on healthcare while leaving millions without coverage.

Define what you mean by a 'legal barrier to entry.'

  • We spend 17% because, one, we eat much more than any other country (because we're rich) and, two, each person receives the best possible medical treatment. We have the best doctors and the most innovative tech, that's not cheap.

Do you ever wonder how single insurance companies are able to gain huge market shares? 80% in some states. It's because they lobby for tough licensing procedures. If we could buy across state lines they would lose their monopoly power and their monopoly pricing.

  • Sorry, but if you think "each person receives the best possible medical treatment" in the United States, you're in denial.

No I don't wonder how HMOs are able to gain near monopolies in individual states. It's common knowledge.

    1. Other than baseball, HMOs are the only industry exempt from anti-trust/anti-monopoly laws.

    2. Smaller states don't have a large enough client pool to enable efficient competition. Even the "sell insurance across state lines" talking point recognizes this.

  • America is the front line of med innovation, the majority of med innovation comes from the US. That means US citizens receive the newest & therefore the most expensive medical treatment

Both of your arguments are retarded. If you let anyone buy insurance from wherever all of those legislated monopolies will disappear overnight. The shortages & profit from pricing MC=MR will be gone

I'd say that's a better solution than politicizing health-insurance -- vote 4 me, I'll cover whatever ales you!

  • Contrary to talking points, the majority of inovation does not come from the United States. Six of the ten largest Biotech/Pharma companies (Novartis, Bayer, GlaxoSmithKline, Sanofi-Aventis, Hoffman-LaRoche and Astra Zeneca) are in Europe, where they have universal health care.

Maybe you can tell me where Insulin, pasturization, ASA, antibiotics, heart transplants, heart stints, and X-rays were invented?

Although, there's no question, the U.S. has some of the most EXPENSIVE procedures.

  • 1) Over 65% of world-wide medical research is conducted in the US. That doesn't include pharma, which is significantly more (cite Folland's econ of healthcare *my textbook)

    2) There are many forms of barriers to entry: government regulation (legal barriers); start-up capital requirements (high fixed costs); consumer beliefs (product loyalty, unwillingness to change, etc). Please, watch the videos.

  • 1. By what mesure? Expenditure on research, or innovation? There's no doubt that more than 65% of the patents are filed in the US patent office, but most of them are ornamental. You'll have to show that more INNOVATION takes place under the U.S. system to make your case.

    2. When I asked you to define what you meant by 'legal barriers to entry' you COULD have said any one of those things, but instead you just decided to show off your Tourette Syndrome. A sign of a very weak argument.

  • Please, watch the videos.

  • 3. The proposed bill allows for purchase across state lines by setting up a national health care insurance exchange, just like the one federal employees use. Thus allowing across-state-line purchasing that doesn't violate state laws. The bill also allows for inter-state compacts, which is what the GOP has been whining for.

    4. By 'licensing procedures' I presume you're talking about 'Mary Ruwart style' complaints about licensing of physicians.? That's a separate issue.

  • {CONTINUED}

No, I'm talking about BARRIERS TO FUCKING ENTRY!!! A BASIC ECONOMIC CONCEPT!!! I'm not talking about tort reform. You'd know that if you knew anything about economics.

Please, go to KHAN ACADEMY & watch some economics videos! PLEASE! You have no idea how stupid your ideas are because you're ignorant of basic economics.

  • If you were talking about economic barriers to entry, you wouldn't have specifically stated "legal barriers to entry."

You might want to look up what a "definitional retreat" is.

  • Stop blathering. You've already lost the debate by default by not being able to control your temper.

  • Which is why the countries with single payer deliver better overall healthcare outcomes at a lower cost to the GDP. Yes, that's definitely the worst thing since communism.

  • BS if anything its guaranteed. Not much of a life if you can't afford to live.

  • How about anyone who knows the history of the Republicans and the following economic downfall?

  • People who hate hippies and minorities.

  • You forgot people who view govt services as an entitlement, but hate paying the taxes that support them.

I noticed that nobody was putting pressure on Senator Bunning to end his objection filibuster as long as he was only holding up unemployment payments. But as soon as all those gulf state patriots realized he was ALSO holding up govt FLOOD INSURANCE he folded like a cheap tent.

"Lay off the objections, or no Wingnut Welfare retirement job at the Heritage Foundation for YOU, Bunny."

  • Senator Gregg nedds to wake up. Nobody on the 'far left' is happy about this bill, in fact they despise it more than conservatives. Only corporate whores and the Obama Administration like the Senate bill.

  • I think an equivalent analogy would be using reconciliation for the Medicare prescription drug bill back in 2005. The one with the ever-changing price tag.

  • Or passing COBRA through reconciliation in 1985, I think. A Republican Senate, a Democratic House, and a Republican president (Reagan) passing a whole mess of unrelated things (from health insurance portability to tobacco prices) using Budget Reconciliation.

  • This is priceless.

  • The clips both talk about reconciliation, but in one he talks abut how he doesn't feel it should be used for healthcare and the other he talks about how it's within the rules of the senate to use reconciliation.

This clip would be interesting if, in his interview with Fox, he claimed that it was somehow "illegal" to do it; however, he doesn't. He wishes they wouldn't, he's trying to rally the public to vote out the dems that support reconciliation, but he doesn't claim it's not "allowed".

  • It's true he doesn't directly oppose reconciliation in the foxnews interview, but he certainly implies that it's undemocratic ("to do it this way is to really railroad the american public and congress")

In the cspan clip he's outraged that someone objects to the use of reconciliation on ANY issue, because it's "in the rules." So there's a complete reversal where opposing reconciliation is suddenly undemocratic.

Hypocrisy that's carefully postured is still hypocrisy.

  • The GOP is having a harder than usual time keeping a straight fact with this one.

They started out by saing it would be undemocratic for the Dems to use Reconciliation until somebody pointed out that the GOP used Reconciliation 16 out of the 22 times it's been used.

So they switched to "you can't use it for healthcare" until somebody pointed out that they used it for both Medicare part D and COBRA.

So, now it's "you can't use it without bi-partisan support."

    Nicely circular argument.

  • ahahahahhahahhahahaahhahah ohhh that was great. TPM rules

  • Gregg is slime

  • I can already see Stephen Colbert setting up a debate: Gregg vs Gregg on the legitimacy of the filibuster.

  • The Republicans are all liars and hypocrites! I cannot believe that people actually take them seriously!

  • Well done TPM. This is the good stuff that you are capable of. Not forty Christina Bellatoni videos a week.

  • for real, fuck that bitch

  • every day I am happier and happier to be a Canuck, because americans on both sides of the aisle just don't get it

  • can we all agree" "HYPOCRITE"...?

  • For whom is the prosperity for which you fight so hard, Senator Gregg?

  • PENIS!
