Animation is not a genre. It's just a medium in which to tell stories of genres like comedies, drama, horror, etc. Just wanna point that out cause I hear that all the time and it makes me go crazy haha :)
This is very cool stuff! Thanks for puttin all this stuff together. It takes good character to take time out of their lives to share their experience.

Animation IS a genre in itself. Genre means type, is animation not a type of film?

Animation is definitely an official genre! Think of how a 3D film feels so different than a live action. You are trying to figure out what your favorite types of film are for this step.
If you want to make a 3D animated film you better have animation in the genre combo. Genre films do certain things specific to that genre. Animated films push reality in extreme ways and show us things we have not seen before in a new way. Westerns have cowboys, indians, saloons, gunfights...
