i love this, I wish she had showcased this on American tv, still a very beautiful and powerful voice. I wish she does do a small, intimate concert on Ameircan tv showcasing her old songs and gospel. her soprano is still there and dare I say a bit more powerful just now consistent. Some serious vocal training and no cigs and she would not be one to mess with.

Her voice is a little 'rusty' now - but still has the power to evoke beautiful emotion. And when an artist can reach an audience like that... Hmmm - perhaps in my rush to be happy for her return, I was a bit rash in saying "She's got her voice back!" --- She's got a little of it back anyway - so we take the good with the bad :P

Whitney actually can still get the high note from her voice, but she looks like trying alot and try if her voice still in there. So sometimes we don't know if she is actually singing a song or just bursting the voice out.

This was one of the best concerts of the entire tour: Saving All My Love For You is on-point. However, I do wish that she would improve further. There was a time when Whitney's voice still rocked even if she was experiencing her monthly.

I've got to say, as a longtime Whitney Houston fan, it really saddens me to hear what is left of her vocal ability. This performance is just terrible. It's nothing even remotely close to what she could do in the prime of her career. I would have gladly paid any amount of money to see her back in the 80's or 90's, but I wouldn't pay $5 to sit through a performance like this. So sad.

I did see Whitney when she toured London and did have a good evening as she is still a performer but it was slightly sad to see her try so hard for her notes that once came so easy. @JUSTSANG71 Of all the reviews and critiques Whitney has had throughout all of her live performances as well as the album, what you said was the best possible explanation that truly makes sense. All the time Whitney was doing drugs and still being able to sing strong, proves that she knew her voice well and could keep up but taking a break the way she did and not performing, made her lose that. Taking her time now when she sings will help truly bring her back home.
what confuses me i jjust saw her in london and anytime she try using head it did not work and her chest kept her going, but here her head voice is just like it always was.
@chesneysimon Apparently, she once said that her "monthly" affects the head voice and all the "bad" concerts such as London etc have all happened at roughly the same time of the month so maybe it was that! Also, the London concerts were affected by her not able to just fly in because of the flights being stopped so she had to spend half of the day in a coach/bus/ferries so she'd been exhausted and most of the performances show that around that time! I was at Glasgow and she was amazing though!

I don't think that's it. She's thriving on the ballads, where it's slow and she can control it. She gets excited during those up-tempo songs tho, as always. Now, with the lower register, it's hard for her to not wanna just start hitting that (now) raspy range.

All she went through.. the drugs, and she STILL has it. Her change of tonalities and how she rides the scale. Granted, it is not the SAME voice she had. But it is a no brainer that voice changes through the years. Not the same voice? ...yes. But that it is still an Excellent voice? yes.
Of course you can hear that her unhealthy lifestile has left it´s mark on her voice. She`s still a young woman and normally vocal cords don`t mature at that age. Only future will show, whether she gets back to her style of former times. At least she still knows how to perform and impress her fans and they forgive her everything.

Singers today rely so much on earth shaking notes that they forget how interpreting a song and delivering emotion a la Billie Holiday is a sure way to stay relevant.

appears she temporarily stopped the newports. the clarity and speaking voice is improving. the whole concert was a practice session. notice she does a ton of improvisations and she running the scale in those runs. much like one would do in rehearsal or practice. the entire show was like this. she's tryin to get a feel of where her voice is at in range and power. that's all she's doin in these 2 concerts.
Every time I see this video I nearly cry. And I think I'll cry at the concert. Cause she's given me emotions with her voice for mor than 20 years, and she keeps on doing that. Whitney, work out on your voice and don't smoke and you'll be even better. Love you, always, and happy Christmas

She has turned into a jazz singer. Her voice is there it's her 'style' that is so dramatically different. A style I do not care for. This seems to work ok for SAMLFY but GLOA is an ABOMINATION. Whitney, I still love you, lord know I always will, but please go back to singing the songs not this vocal roller coaster ride you're taking us on.
I know, I know. She has ALWAYS, since day ONE, changed her songs. That is one thing I have always LOVED about her. I will always love her and her music, but THIS particular way of singing live she has adopted as of late I don't particularly care for. I assume it's due to 'changes' in her voice but sometimes it seems like it's more about her breathing technique. I don't know, I know nothing about music technacalities.
One thing I do know, without a doubt, after seeing her in concert 12 times since my first show in '86 is that 'video' DOES NOT capture the magic of her voice. While this jazzy style of singing may not be my cup of tea, I'm sure in person it sounds much better. Having said that I will be attending what I hope are multiple shows if and when she comes to the States.... I still LOVE her and her music UNCONDITIONALLY!!!!!
@Chasenip...GLOA is suppose to be sung in a low register to begin with. It doesn't have a lot of high note areas...even tho Whitney did hit them at will. And you are right her breathing has changed a lot...There was a time when Whitney could change notes and you wouldn't know she took a breath. Her annuciation was the best in the biz...give her some time...she'll get back to basics....she's still finding her way...besides...this let's us know the Chic can still hit and hold them high notes.

you know when she is sitting down and not jumping around she sings a lot better. when she tries to dance or move she gets out of breath and this affects her singing but its more of a fitness thing as this shows she can still sing really well! I am shocked by how good this was, shocked!!

This tour is damaging her voice she sounds brilliant here but as the tour is going on her voice is getting weaker !!! Who ever scheduled the tour is an idiot too many performances in a short space of time.

I don't think that's it. She's thriving on the ballads, where it's slow and she can control it. She gets excited during those up-tempo songs tho, as always. Now, with the lower register, it's hard for her to not wanna just start hitting that (now) raspy range.

@PoetJC lol, she doesnt have her voice back but she's trying. there is improvement but not even close to MLIYL era. she has yet to get back to 2004 levels. we shall see if there is more improvement as she tours korea, japan, and australia next month.

All she went through.. the drugs, and she STILL has it. Her change of tonalities and how she rides the scale. Granted, it is not the SAME voice she had. But it is a no brainer that voice changes through the years. Not the same voice? ...yes. But that it is still an Excellent voice? yes.

Of course you can hear that her unhealthy lifestile has left it´s mark on her voice. She`s still a young woman and normally vocal cords don`t mature at that age. Only future will show, whether she gets back to her style of former times. At least she still knows how to perform and impress her fans and they forgive her everything.

@yemuko When singers voice change, this is what they do to work out their new voice. Whit cant just come out and do what she use to do because she has to find her new voice. She is not some 20 year old girl with a girly voice anymore. She is a full grown woman who has truly experienced life. This resonates through her singing style. Like life, which is sometimes smooth, it can also be rough. Whitney's artistry represents this quite well.

Why does she labor every line of every song.... I wish she would just sing a song normally as I know it would sound better. I'm sure she finds it easier to control her voice that way but it's slightly annoying for everyone else! I still like her though and want her to do well.

I am outdone! Wow! Whitney shocked me with some of those high notes. I am a big fan, but had gotten use to her new, lower voice. This shows that it's still there. That's all I needed, just a lil sprinkle every now and then..........can't wait till she comes to the US on her tour!

appears she temporarily stopped the newports. the clarity and speaking voice is improving. the whole concert was a practice session. notice she does a ton of improvisations and she running the scale in those runs. much like one would do in rehearsal or practice. the entire show was like this. she's tryin to get a feel of where her voice is at in range and power. that's all she's doin in these 2 concerts.

She has turned into a jazz singer. Her voice is there it's her 'style' that is so dramatically different. A style I do not care for. This seems to work ok for SAMLFY but GLOA is an ABOMINATION. Whitney, I still love you, lord know I always will, but please go back to singing the songs not this vocal roller coaster ride you're taking us on.

I know, I know. She has ALWAYS, since day ONE, changed her songs. That is one thing I have always LOVED about her. I will always love her and her music, but THIS particular way of singing live she has adopted as of late I don't particularly care for. I assume it's due to 'changes' in her voice but sometimes it seems like it's more about her breathing technique. I don't know, I know nothing about music technacalities.

One thing I do know, without a doubt, after seeing her in concert 12 times since my first show in '86 is that 'video' DOES NOT capture the magic of her voice. While this jazzy style of singing may not be my cup of tea, I'm sure in person it sounds much better. Having said that I will be attending what I hope are multiple shows if and when she comes to the States.... I still LOVE her and her music UNCONDITIONALLY!!!!!

@Chasenip...GLOA is suppose to be sung in a low register to begin with. It doesn't have a lot of high note areas...even tho Whitney did hit them at will. And you are right her breathing has changed a lot...There was a time when Whitney could change notes and you wouldn't know she took a breath. Her annuciation was the best in the biz...give her some time...she'll get back to basics....she's still finding her way...besides...this let's us know the Chic can still hit and hold them high notes.

I feel you...but this was like she channeled some Patti LaBelle or something. I feel you on the old songs...Cause Didn't We Almost Have It All is classic to me. I wish she'd sing IWALY in the beginning or middle of her performances and not at the end...cause even the best voice would have trouble killing them notes... but here is when she could have done it...she hit them notes.

you know when she is sitting down and not jumping around she sings a lot better. when she tries to dance or move she gets out of breath and this affects her singing but its more of a fitness thing as this shows she can still sing really well! I am shocked by how good this was, shocked!!
