  • JEFE DIEGO?

  • The Killers Christmas single is named after this poem!

    Great reading!

  • @thedannyjohnsmith same lyrics too haha

  • @thedannyjohnsmith It's not only named, apparantly it IS this poem :)

  • This knocks me out. I do actually listen to your recording when I get picked on for being different than other people at my High School. You really should record your Poem Covers and sell them. Your voice just puts me to sleep. You make my day, and I thank you for that Urgelt.

  • I'm happy you enjoy them, Rob.

Within the boundaries that would be drawn by bullies, there can be only a stultifying conformity. Fresh ideas and fresh insights must be found elsewhere.

  • One more thing... I ain't called Rob, it's Aiden xD Just clearing some facts :L

  • And my birth certificate doesn't say Urgelt.

But you can call me that here, since that's the handle I chose. :-)

  • True ¬¬ xD

    Meh, Thank you. (:

  • ur awesome urgelt ur voice is soothing and awesome the poems r awesome everything u do is awesome and perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    p.s :-)

  • your voice is amazing. I enjoy listening to your narations.

  • what a pitty u dont live in germany , i would be glad to let u record in my studio =)

  • Wow you are good

  • thi is rather odd but my dog was fascinated by this video, he kept whining and tilting his head staring at the video. You managed to captivate him along with me!! Tah for the splendid reading!!!

  • That certainly is odd! I have no idea why a dog would be interested, heh.

  • if you cover mr Urgelts face from the nose up, it kinda looks like the snout of a scottish hound! haha maybe thats what the dog thought haha :) no offense Mr Urgelt, I really love your beard!

  • ...wow, you're right.

  • Your narration is so lively and interesting, it distracts from the actual poem! You definitely have a very distinctive voice, it is the kind I can imagine children would love to sit and listen to. You should make childrens' tapes!

  • Your narration is so lively and interesting, it distracts from the actual poem! You definitely have a very distinctive voice, it is the kind I can imagine children would love to sit and listen to. You should make childrens' tapes!

  • Distracting isn't success, alas, in the art of poetry narration. I shall have to work on that. Thank you for your comment.

  • I don't know if your interested, but you be great at recording books on tape/cd. Nice voice~~thanks

  • I do plan to create audio recordings under the Creative Commons licensing scheme. Should be closer to fruition in 2008. What's slowing me down is lack of experience in engineering CD-quality sound, and very limited audio editing software.

  • Look at the way you flex that tone. Simply marvelous. 5 "Staaahs" for you:)

  • This poem nearly defeated me. It *pulled* me to a faster pace than I like. The transition from dreamy imagery to boot stompin' was hard to accomodate with a sensible transition. It included unfamiliar terms and contexts.

I hope future poems aren't this tough!

  • You can conquer just about anything. No worry, no fear, no boundaries.

  • Most people are hemmed in by all three. I'm no exception. But I do sometimes try to poke a hole in the wall of self-imposed obstacles and try to wriggle something past it.

  • thank you for a great reading..enjoyed it very much

  • Amazing storytelling! Everything seems so visual, as if your words are painting a mural of everything from the sacred mother nature to the whimsical fancy of joyful hollering to square dance and fiddles. I can see why so many here believe there is a sort of magic behind your work. :)

  • Kind words, thank you! I think there is magic in great poetry, waiting only to be discovered by us. Reading aloud brings the magic to life. :-)

  • It's imagery like this that makes me miss TX! Simple yet beautiful words and read so well by you here!

  • I've only spent 2 weeks of my life in Texas, myself. But it certainly is a fascinating place. Where else can you be driving on a busy 2-lane road through dusty prairie behind a slow gun-racked pickup, and the pickup driver lazily drives onto the shoulder and waves you to pass? Some part of the old frontier ethic is still alive there. Glad you enjoyed it. :-)

  • Well done.

  • Thank You for making these videos Urgelt. Yet another one i've enjoyed.

  • I'm glad you did, Joe. :-)

  • James J. Braddock Could be narrated by you. It's unbelivible his history. A man who couldn't be forgetten.

  • Mr. Braddock's remarkable story as a boxer unfolded during the 1920s and 1930s. The books about him are still under copyright. Copyright laws in the USA have a long reach.

  • Thanks, I loved it.

  • Most welcome! :-)

  • Urglet

This history you narrated in this video remainds me when I was a child , my grand-father always told me histories from old west.

    Best, amazing video.

I'd like to request you something related to John Nash. the amazing Nobel winner of Economy. It would be great to hear some histories of him by you.

    Best

  • Mr. Nash's works are still under copyright protection, alas. I've avoided reading any copyrighted works without permission. Sorry...

  • no offence but you look just like harold shipman!!!

  • If you don't want to offend and have nothing nice to say, then say nothing.

  • 01.09.07

Urgelt. I am no longer amazed by the wealth, depth and breadth of your readings. You make the stories that you tell come fully alive and they are fresh in the telling as they tumble like tumbleweeds from your saintly anointed lips. he. he. :)

    "cat"

  • Saintly annointed lips? Indulge in hyperbole much, Thomas? Heh. :P

  • Urgelt, while I can't say that I'm with you on all of your diet/food video blogs, no can fault you for trying to help fellow youtubers with advice aimed at improving the lives of others. You're a good man Urgelt--helluva good reading voice too.

  • My views are a little radical by the FDA's lights, so you're in good company, Philly. I think science will eventually catch up to my thinking, but then, so did Dr. Pauling, and it hasn't happened yet. Thanks for the comment!

  • Wow! What a voice.

  • You have such a wonderful story telling voice. I think you should look into doing voice over work. Of course you might not want to, but I think it would be great. Great story and the beard makes it Gold! ;)

  • I guess I could be the announcer when you take over "The Late Show with Insane Shayne. :-)

  • You have yourself a job! :)

  • It's the Insane Shayne Show! And heeeere's... a poem by Robert Frost, Shayne can wait! "Two roads diverged in a yellow wood..." :P

  • Nice Urgelt! I just got back from texas today from vacation.

  • Glad you liked it, Yeh67. May 2007 bring you much happiness. :-)

  • I just subscribed to you yesterday Urgelt, and I am sure glad I did! That was a wonderful story! This might not be your taste but I was wondering if u were familiar with Patrick F. McManus - one of my favorite short story authors? Happy New Year!

  • Thank you for your glowing comment, Andy. Pat McManus is indeed a delightful author, but his works are all under copyright. I can't use them without permission, alas. Happy new year!

  • Thanks, Reid, I knew if anyone would appreciate this poem, it would be you. :-)

  • very good merry late christmas

  • Thanks, hayatemarcantel. Have a great 2007. :-)

  • I listened twice, then called the kids in to listen with me. Of course then they wanted to hear it more than once, too. You are a delight!

  • Ah, that's good to hear. If kids like it, it's a true success. :-)

  • Peaceful Xmas and new year to you !

  • merry christmas Urgelt !

  • Merry Christmas, Icecorescientist. :-)

  • test

  • this video is very professional...do you need an editor? lol :-D

  • how can you change your voice and still be so professional o the reading? i never could make that cause i must concentrate myself in both things :-)

    Tino

  • This poem was quite difficult for me, and probably would be for almost anyone. What got me through it was practice. Lots of practice.

  • Probably yes, Tino. I'm not a videographer at all, I just read stuff. :-)

  • i actually did leave a comment on this one within an acceptable timeframe however youtube ate it now i know i have to type with no grammatical structure for any comment to make it through i hope you had a wonderful holiday thank you for sharing this poem with us

  • Thanks, darkskiesproductions. I'm listening to your reading now, and it's terrific. :-)

  • Very nice and a most beautiful voice! Keep it up and MEEEEEERY XMAS!!

  • Merry Christmas to you, too, Mateibaritone. And thank you for your comment. :-)

  • I could hear the music playing loud and clear as you read The Cowboy's Christmas Ball! A do see do and a Merry Christmas to you, Urgelt!

  • I could, too, just looking at the words, so evocative they are. I toyed with the notion of finding some period music to punctuate the words, and decided they simply weren't needed.

Jest skip her waterfall! And Merry Christmas, Kazl1m. :-)

  • Hey urgelt, as a long time subscriber since your healthing eating videos, your doing a good job, thanks!

  • Awesome, Urgelt! this is going on my ipod

  • Loved it! You, my dear, have a beautiful voice and style! And most of all that beard! A Great White Beard makes your storytelling even better! Mrs. GeezerArt

  • Thank you, Mrs. GeezerArt, I'm so glad you liked it. :-)

  • Another great read. Merry Christmas to you and yours Urgelt.

  • Thank you, gbotn. Merry Christmas to you and yours, as well. :-)

  • First To Comment Yay!: A Great Poem Urgelt!:

  • A *difficult* poem. Wrestling this one, I felt I'd lost 2 falls out of three! Edgar Allen Poe looks easy by comparison.

But it's a mistake to ignore the great cowboy poets of the 19th century, I think. Chittenden was one of the best. And it's a fine thing to see Christmas through 19th Century eyes.

Thanks for your comment, Cola139. :-)
