  • Jeff Lynne / ELO more popular then GOD!!!!!!!!! in the seventy's ...John Lennon quote "Son of Beatles"

  • Like the Beatles on hey jude :)

  • @thefluffydaisy

    JUDY BABY

  • I think the ELO Queen sound comes from the engineer at Music Land Studio in Germany called Mack, the Sweet song Love is like Oxygen was recorded there by him and I have lost count of people who thought it was an ELO song.

But ANWR to me was the best ever produced ELO LP ever, fresh sounding.the balance of all the instruments and vocals was just right,a great mix of songs.and all the knobs on the mixer set a the right level, and as for this track, what a fade out and in at the end ,pure class,

    .

  • This is my favorite song from ELO i think that this one is one of their best song ever :D

  • He should they should really be in the rock of roll hall of fame I can't believe that they are not their is no one like them

  • This music is indescribably beautiful and haunting unsurpassed!

  • Coś niesamowitego!Piękne!!

  • LOVE, :[ but so lonely, makes me wish i had someone

  • i definitely hear beatles influence. and honestly i think Elo influenced Queen more than any other. i cant hear queen and not think of ELO. both unique tho

  • The beatles invented the simphonic rock with revolver and sgt peppers.

Electric Light Orchestra took it to the súmmun. ELO 4ever :3

  • I have this album on record and on the inside cover i has a picture of the whole group along with the lyrics. the group looks so much different from what i saw in the late 70s. but the truth is that i am with the new generation of adults and i love 60s and 70s music. i still use records and 8 tracks.

  • @tylerbcool its just horrible that the people of today don't realize that without these bands there music wouldn't have even thought to have been made

  • @sweetbrowneyedlady Same here, I`m glad to hear that, then there isn`t anything wrong with me, he, he!

Jeff Lynne can touch my soul with his music. . . .

  • I have been an ELO fan since 77,prob before then ..much respect to the beautiful music that enlightened all of us and 100% of felt that they should have been in the top charts,However, due to the ass kissing ..and my friend Jeff could give a shit..he would probably rather show his incredible talent ..God bless you Jeff.. you are my hero!!!Love u...

  • sad...mine went away a long time ago....

  • You can tell Jeff Lynne was a Beatles mark- maybe that's why I have all of ELO's albums...

  • This sounds like what it would be if George Harrison and John Lennon co- wrote a song. Still.. very distinctive ELO and nothing wrong with just being ELO

  • Nothing wrong with duplicating The Beatles' sound. Any musician who's a Beatles fanatic would do the same. That's one way of keeping the magic and inspiration alive for the next generation.

  • @cometandcupids Yea...well you know a lot of people have said that if the Beatles had stayed together longer that this is what their music would have sounded like....so what Jeff Lynne did was pick up where they left off so the world wouldn't miss all this great music...he is a genius for sure!! I am a huge ELO and Beatles fan!!

  • @eightiesguy62 Well, while I've heard that quote attributed to John Lennon before, I would like to know which musicians of his could play a violin like Mik. :)

  • @barrygoldwater2002 There's no doubt that all the members of ELO are very talented in their own right..I am a huge ELO fan..if it were not for the Beatles ELO would be #1 on my list of great rock groups but I do consider them to be a very close second..there are so many similarities that it's really hard to rate one over the other. Jeff Lynne has said that the Beatles were a big influence on him of course who have the Beatles NOT influenced in one way or another LOL! ELO took it to another level

  • This music is totally out this world. Best band ever. Their sound is pure enchantment. The Whale, Telephone Line and so many others are works of art.

Nowadays all I hear is ugly noise with all due to respect to the artists. I am grateful i'm old.

  • me and my sister who recently died of cancer used to listen to this album constantly. actually sitting here tearing now.

  • @fishbones1963 Losing someone so close, it is like the Earth opened up and took them away. She is still here, in your heart. This is a very difficult time, you have your memories. All I can say is she is still with you. In your heart and soul.

  • '75 or 76 I think ?

  • what's the year for this song?

  • @alicecooper19isback It was summer of 77 when on the radio sounded both Living Thing -from this album, the hit track, and Hotel California.

  • the end of this song is a pure epic love the vocals

  • My first boyfriend had this album and he always used to be playing it when I was at his house - ooooooh 34 years ago - this was my favourite song on it.

    It has brought back memories.

    Great song - love it

  • Бесподобно.Электрики,лучшие песни,хорошие времена

  • @maliy1966 Ale to se uże ne vrati

  • me encanta y me relaja esta cancion , sin duda una de las mejores de e.l.o

  • best band

  • ELO, WONDERFUL!!!!!

  • @goudvinger Thank you for all of the uploads of this amazing music. you constantly amaze me at how thorough and accurate your songs and descrptions are. well done!

  • Beautiful song. The sound is so mellow and relaxing.

  • ...aiz šamējām skaņām slēpjas mūžība...

  • I love this song - I would put on the headphones turn on the stereo and listen to ELO albums in the 70's. Miss those days as the music will always be me.

  • OMG I love this one!

  • Wij zijn daar outro

  • Masterful. La Creme de la Creme. Haunting, moving, pure genius!

  • in lyrics the composer loses your shangrila, and i encounter the my to hear him.

    Wonderful music, a trip.

  • i will return to . .>> Shangri . .La !!!!

  • Could'nt say it better myself. Jeff Lynne has a gift from God, to write these lovely songs, and he sings wonderful! Love you Jeff!

  • Comment removed

  • godeverdomme . . .wat een heerlijk goed nummer.. . .i will return to.. . .

  • ja, ik go to shangri- LA . .. . .

  • The only they adopted from The Beatles was that they mentioned them in this song. Nothing else. ELO is completely original.

  • Okay, there is a lot of bullshit going around that Lynne copied the Beatles?

Look at their debut album...ELO are the first band to enter in mainstream industry with a fusion of classical music and rock. Oh yeah, that's Beatles alright.

  • @FiontainBreanach I thought a fusion of classical and rock is ...JAZZ :-)

  • @Jakob1951 That is, indeed, very incorrect, my friend! Jazz originated from a mixture of Creole and African-American's in the mid 1800's who were the slaves at the time.

Though classical music has its roots from before then, rock is actually strongly rooted from jazz. As technology developed, there was a provision of electric instruments such as the guitars and synthesisers and what not. Rock & Roll is a distant, yet direct relative of jazz. Classical-rock fusion is a genre of its own.

  • @FiontainBreanach Ok. I guess you live, learn and enjoy the fusion. :-)

  • Such a poignant song! Momma listened to ELO... God I miss those days!!!!

  • No one can write songs like this better than Jeff Lynne, Hauntingly beautiful....like One Summer Dream and others. Fantastic....

  • ELO can't be compared to the Beatles, they had their own sound. They were unique. And deserve to be in a class by themself.

  • ELO was the first ever LP i bought in the 70s fantastic band and beautiful songs very clever musicians.

  • I love this. I missed it the first time I heard the album which suprised me. But god it's friggin sweet.

  • i adore this so soothing x

  • The power of this song to move me is almost beyond words. I'll never forget the very first time I heard it, totally awestruck and feeling a lump in my throat. It was my first musical awakening: until that moment I never realised that music could touch you so deeply. I still get misty when I hear this track over 30 years later ...

  • @anridapu I agree, something about ELO that really moves me deep inside. The best part of this song is at 3:48 seconds when the piano plays solo and then the orchestra joins in.I always think of the sunrise while I'm listening.

  • It's really hard to believe Jeff Lynne

or ELO aren't in the Rock 'n' Roll

Hall Of Fame. Jeff Lynne's incredible

catalogue of songs and studio pro-

ductions are definitely worthy. He has

to be one of the most underrated artists

in the history of Rock 'n' Roll.

  • Is this a record? It sounds just like it sounded on my record player over 30 years ago

  • This song transports you. God bless Jeff Lynne and Electric Light Orchestra.

  • Absolutamente de acuerdo con otros comentarios. La parte final es una verdadera obra de arte, sublime, transporta a otra dimensión.

  • This song sums my youth so much. Jeff Lynne (In my opinion) has perfected a beautiful stunning piece of work here ;)

  • For some reason, this song is really making me miss the 1970s today! This song is 33 years old - WOW!!!

  • I think that A New World Record was the high water mark for ELO. There were so many great songs on this album. This song is just beyond words.

  • This album, particularly this song, is amazing....tremendous lyrics!!!!

  • MASSIVE SONG!!!! A true epic- even down to the mock ending....

  • En una palabra:" SUBLIME".

  • ELO....epic!

  • La parte final es definitivamente una obra de arte. Comienza con esos arpegios de piano y sigue con los coros. Precioso. Lovely.

  • Is this even better than One Summer Dream? Who cares....

  • Jeff = God, simple as that

  • to put this in the same bracket as stairway to heaven is a fitting tribute to jeff lynne

  • only 37k views? justin pee-ber got 250 mill.

    something is going wrong.

elo and queen were and will be my favourites.

  • @dschonsie The girlies want a pretty boy to mother- the days of the hairy 'Rock god' are over. Funny you should connect Queen and ELO- there's far more in common between them than with The Beatles. Jeff and Freddie had the whole massive soundstage thing going on and the opera hints.... Good call

  • @johnnywindows1 .it's a mystery how jeff and freddie never worked together, how interesting that would have been.

  • @dschonsie Excellent choices. My favourite bands.

  • I think one of the reasons this song never got the full attention it deserved was because it is over 5 minutes long. Back in the 1970s, the average song was 2-1/2 to 3 minutes in length, so great songs like this only got airplay on those very rare occasions. Absolute muscical genius to me.

  • Stairway to Heaven?

  • @MikeAdupont - Very true! I could only think of one other - Bohemian Rhapsody.

  • My first favorite band as a child. This album is perfect, not one bad song on it. This being my favorite. Beautiful.

  • Jeff Lynne has worked with George Harrison in the past and does produce a lot of music.

  • @orlandrake they were in the traveling wilburys togther

  • Am a 45year young man with tears in my eyes. I was introduced to ELO in 1976 by a birthday gift, a tee shirt of ELO. Since then OLE ELO!

  • what a great tune by such a fine artist and blue nose

  • This band will always hold a dear place in my heart!

  • Lovely tune expertly rendered. I have yet to hear a bad song by this band.

  • FANTASTICAAAAAAA !!!

  • There seems to be talk of copying the Beatles here. To some, it may seem like that. But not so, and not to me. Each of the Beatles was very different from the others. That just can't be copied, and I don't think ELO tried to. They certainly were influenced by the Beatles though, and directly or indirectly influenced by Die Zauberflauten too. This is music that needs no such analysis. Analyze instead how it makes you feel.

  • good memories of my dear brother,we used to sit for hours listening to elo,R.I.Px

  • I first heard this song a couple of years after its album came out. For a few months, I drove everyone around me crazy playing it to death! Great finale to a superb album.

  • There are only so many musical notes and only so many ways to play um :) ALL MUSIC IS RECYCLED IN SOME FORM OR ANOTHER !!!!

  • how could they be considered as copying the beatles when the whole reason elo started was to pick up where the beatles left off. FACT.

  • Only one thing to say.

Jeff Lynne is the Mozart of our time.

  • @Dannydudelido yes he is ...

  • love jeff lynne awesome

  • one of the greatest composers ever put on this earth, always loved jeff lynne, and i am a metal head to the core, but you can not deny pure talent

  • The final part just does it for me. Can remember exactly where I was when I first heard the album in 1976.

  • looooooove this song. 2:07 love the part where he gets all high pitched. I love this band and this albumn and this SONG.

  • Clearly Radiohead must have been influenced in some way by ELO.

  • this in my opinion is one of the best records of all time, unbelievable, also the best group, hail ELO.

  • This song is one of the best things that ever happened to me! I just can't thank enough life for such beautiful work.

  • SIMPLY AMAZING!!

  • Beautiful song/chords. Mr Lynne can't put a foot wrong. People accuse him of copying The Beatles but in my opinion his music surpasses that and took music to a whole different level.Thank God for ELO!

  • well put.

  • His voice may be similiar but I'm a fan of both and never thought he was copying the Beatles. Whoever thinks that is crazy.

  • @daveandodrummer oh, there's no doubt their music has bested the Beatles

  • @daveandodrummer you can't thank God for ELO. Because ELO is God!

  • good song from the new world record the second lp i bought all those years ago brilliant times

Un gran final para A new world record

  • faded like the beatles on hey jude.

  • My Shangrila has gone away too ..:( I think it (shangrila} is too mythical....

  • Beautiful song , Jeff is a god !!!!!!!!!!!! .

  • More 25 years ELO is my favour...their biggest songs are ''other-worldly''...Thank°s for posting!

  • So sweet and so true for some, but still the same a good song xxcc

  • When Becky left me 4 years ago this is how i felt

  • been there mate and still in pain.

  • What's the name of the song that closes shangri'la?

  • What do you mean?

  • this song has a Beatles reference!

  • come back geoff

  • Its just classical with that first fade out and the music coming back from the distance with Jeff Lynne singing in that falceto!

  • Comment removed

  • This is as lovely as the title :)

  • for elo lovers don't forget our great elo friend ...caroline372

  • whos that?

  • faded like the beatles on Hey Jude. This great old ELO stuff can t get out of my head. Thank you !

  • underrated song...........

  • I think it is not underrated.

The whole A New World Record was a masterpiece. That´s the fact which is underratted.

  • A New World Record was the identifiable turning point in my life for ELO. For me, before ANWR, ELO was just the artist's name behind a few random hits on the radio - Can't get it out of my head, Strange Magic, etc

But with ANWR, the group ELO and the album became important, and we started listening to their songs because they were from ELO, rather than the other way around.

And as a side note, I remember there being more big hits from ANWR than OOTB or Discovery - their other two "big" records.

  • Jeff Lynne and the other members of ELO later admitted that the huge success of ANWR was a suprise to them, too.

I think the greatest rock- albums in history are always worked like that. You just like to make fine music and enjoy it. And if it becomes succesful it´s a great plus. This was the secret of A New World Record, I think.

  • I'm 40 and every time I think I've heard all of the ELO songs (I've several albums), I run into another. I'd never heard this one except as a midi.

  • Wow, I remember this back when I was 24 just before I became engaged to Dr. Shannon Boyer...wonderful memories in 1976. Those were the days! We're divorced now, but oh...how many precious memories this song brings back to me. ELO I'll always love you!

  • Maybe the one of the best melodies

    Jeff Lynne ever wrote.

I like the whole A New World Record,

About 30 years ago this was SOMETHING. Like between Star Wars and The third Counter you know.

  • Amazing song!

  • should listen to the lil tribute of this song made by grandaddy in their last album, the hidden track of it...

  • marillion must have take lot of inspiration from this melody when they wrote the song seasons end. If you listening to the last part of both songs, you now why!

  • Am a 46 year old man sat here with tears in my eyes.....takes me back....so many memories

  • Takes me back to when I was 7.

    Perfect.

  • me too. 35 now.

  • I hear ya, it takes me back to H.S,

  • sweet memories still aglow....love elo

  • ditto......i'm making up here for lost time....I lost touch with ELO in the early 90's but the memories that these great songs evoke are flooding back :)

  • Fantastic, takes you to another place. Always was one of my favourites.

  • this song made me cry at least a few times

  • A song about wonder in love, the sadness when it's lost, the then seemingly perpetual gloom that ensues, and the beacon of hope for future love to come which is always there if you look hard enough.

What's the use in changing things?

    I'm getting out of love

She Seemed to drift out on the rain

    I will return to Shangri-La.

  • I've told this story before, but it's true and will be to me, but my Ex and I nearly broke up (the 1st time) and when we got together again, realizing how much we loved each other, It had started raining, and I told her how she was my "Shangri-La".

We broke up a month later, but she still is my Shangri-La.

  • Says you, but to some romance author.. The rights to the movie will be in my possession soon.

  • my fav song

  • good to know there are still people out there with a great taste in music, ELO is, was and always will be the best.

  • my favorite song of the album.

It's a great album and amazing song.

  • thought i was a big fan. then this came along. out of the blue lol. fantastic - i think EVERYBODY clicks with the last bit. that is pure heart tuggin noise. bravo to lynne - awsome.

  • ..faded like The Beatles on 'Hey Jude' is a brillant reference to a beautiful song. ELO is my guilty pleasure.

  • Amazing song... thanks for uploading!

  • In my opinion, ANWR is the best ELO album of all. Great song.

  • if somebody argues about music

    just listen to this song

there is nothing more to say
