I had many memories of going to jarry Park with Dad from 1969-73 when we moved to Maine. I returned to VT after college and went to many more games at Olympic Stadium. This tune is forever etched in my brain and that is a good thing.
Merci Fernand!
This brings back so many memories from attending my very first Major League baseball game back at Jarry Park in 1969, and falling in love with the Expos and the game of baseball at the same time. Since then I have watched hundreds of games in all four Canadian Major League Ball Parks; Jarry Park, Olympic Stadium, Exhibition Stadium, and SkyDome (Roger's Centre) Boy I miss Les Expos. WE NEED THEM BACK.
When I hear this song, the Expos game is about to start, I have my hygrade hot dog, a coke, and waiting for the peanut guy to come by and toss a bag to me from 30 feet away. Then watch Ken Singleton and Bob Bailey ht home runs. All is well.
We wish the return of the expos.
Merci Fernand pour ce beau souvenir qui restera toujours dans le coeur de tous les fans des Expos - Thanks Fernand for this wonderful memory that will forever stay in the hearts of all Expos fans!
Not gonna happen. Montreal just isn't a Major League Baseball town. There are other cities in a similar predicament. But they "need baseball" more for their civic identity, and for some reason or reasons (unstable ownership, crummy stadium, general civic apathy, the drag a Canadian team had on U.S. TV rights fees), the MLB office decided that Nos Amours were expendable.
I think the Nats will draw if they build a contender. They had nearly 40k yesterday afternoon for a game with the Mets.
I really miss baseball in montreal. I know an adult shouldn't be so sentimental and with all that is miserable in this world, I should be thankful that my friends and family are healthy and happy. But I really miss baseball in montreal.
Saturday am; leaving Ottawa...surviving the wild Pie IX exit off Metropolitan...getting to the park EARLY...sitting up in the always moving oval sun patch of the Big O...un smoked meat puis une o'keefe...listening to Fernand Lapierre cook on the keys...now that's when time stood still!
Thanks for this collection esp The Expos theme song...one of the greatest baseball songs ever made!!
I think you used to do a medley with Tico Tico and Brazil which was fabulous -
My brother and sister and I were the English singers of this song when it first came out. (ages 6 to 11 at the time) "Those expos play to win, they know the way to win, here comes a run for Montreal!"
We were each paid 15 dollars and were given 1 45 single!
Good God, what a treat to hear this.....if only we ould find the Happy Wanderer. I almost expect to hear, "La vol-ti-ger a droite, the right-fiel-der, numero dix-septs, number seven-teen....Elll-isss Val-en-tinnnne"
Fernand, I remember visiting at your place with Blackie in 1987. You're a GREAT guy and I'll never forget you or your music. I enjoy all your videos. Thanks & God Bless you.
I was looking for a recording of Les Expos Sont La! and I find it the way it was meant to be heard, played by Fernand Lapierre! What wonderful memories this brings: Jarry Park, the smells, the yell of "Creme Glacee!", and "John Boc-a-BELL-a" called to the plate!
I would love to hear Happy Wanderer and the other signature music Fernand played at the ballpark. It wouldn't make the loss of the Expos any easier to take, but it would sure bring back some thoughts of happier times. Thanks!
Michel, I'd love to hear some a suite of Fernand's old Jarry Park songs, i.e. "Happy Wanderer" and the jingle he played when a foul ball would roll back down the screen. :)
Incredible! Incroyable! Good job! The day I need a musician consider yourself on top of my list! lol Une journée peut-être que tu aura la chance de jouer cet chanson une autre foi..

The Expos MUST return one day. It broke my heart to see Dick Cheney throwing out a pitch in DC. And I'm an American.

What are the words for this song please?
wnaburgencesante 3 years ago
Je me souviens de quelques bouts, la deuxi`me moitié en fait:
Viens papa dépêche-toi
On n'attend plus que toi
Pour chanter les Expos sont là
Quqnd moi je crierai bravo
Toi tu lanceras ton chapeau
On le fera champions nos Expos.
Quelqu'un connaît le premier couplet?
uncleben65 3 years ago
uncleben65 3 years ago
Le premier couplet:
Viens papa fais-toi beau
Mets ton joli chapeau
Je t'emmène voir les Expos
Maman te tiendra le bras
Hurlant hip hip hip hourra
On mangera des frites et du chocolat....
