@Cottoncandy185. They feed by them selves they attract insects and eat them by them selves but if u want to feed it u only feed one a week or more but not as much because they can only close 3 times before they die
@Lemau yes good job. the thing is the plants do not use the insects for energy, they are for nutrients (specifically nitrogen and phosphorous). so any digestion, even fully, costs the plant more energy than it gets.
@omoshiroidayo German English is among one of the most awesome English accents there is. Try Dutch English. So many people around me (Dutch) try to speak English and I have to try so hard not to vomit...
@501rubra lol though. they should be grown outside if permitted and in the U.S. but in new york, im guessing youll have to use a "fridge dormancy" or cold window method for dormancy sincei ts so cold
i jus got my plant and trimmed it coz there were dead leaves, its like winter right now were i am but should i still freaze it? how can i propperly tell its ready 4 dormency and im keeping it in a plasitc boz with a lid half over it and then a lamp next to the box (not shining over it) am i doing things right! helppp
ey have u ever stuck ur finger in one of thse things? i have but not much ahppend it just closed on my finger nothin else and no it doesnt hurt.....unless ur skin is super super super duper mega sensitie then yeah it hurts a tiny bit
@kashcheyevs but the insect needs to stimulate more times the trigger after the tramp closes...thats the mechanism to know if it caughts or not the insect...sorry for my English...
@kashcheyevs Actually, not true. The insect must still trigger the hairs after the trap has closed in order for the digestion process to begin. This prevents the trap from trying to digest drops of water or anything else that might spring the trap, but not offer any digestive benefit.
@kashcheyevs True but in order for the plant to close completely and have a full digest of its prey the insect must first struggle around inside the trap there fore causing the trap to close tighter #FTW! :P
Ifyou wasnt a plant to eat fruit flys google the website Sarracenia Northwest. On the far rifht of any page on there website there should be catagories of carnivourous plants. Get a sundew and read the care sheats on there web site.
Good to know that plant is probably still alive. Not that I am saying you could have been a bad grower, but the chances are that if it did belong to you (and you said that you weren't an expert in the field of these plants) then 99/100 times they die. Not that I am saying you couldn't become an expert =].

If I'm not too much mistaken, they cough up a non-moving bug after a short while, which costs the plant more energy to do that it actually gets.

they dont eat dead bugs
501rubra 2 years ago
...because normally no one helps a dead bug to jump in. But plant's "digestive system" does not care whether it's dead or alive.
Just needs to be juicy enough :)
kashcheyevs 2 years ago 42
@kashcheyevs they think its a leaf because its not moving so they open their trap the next day
501rubra 2 years ago
@501rubra if you get the plant to close on the dead bug and squeeze the sides together it will tighten and digest the plant

you should leave these out next to your garbage can during the day >:)! takes care of all those little flies!

@kashcheyevs no hes right. the trap needs the struggling of the live bug inside to prompt it to close further, then it will eat it.

these are super easyto grow. Stick it outside where it will get direct sun all day and then use distilled water and spahgnum moss.

I know.

No, I'm definetly not. But you should ask Dr. Rheinlaender, he is the owner of the plant and is very enthusiatic about his hobby.
