Some guys play licks and patterns...Bob always plays melodies. He's one of the best, if not the best. Check out keyboardist Aydin Esen or soprano sax legend Dave Liebman. They keep you guessing too.
700 brand new if you get it from mailorder. patchmanmusic(go to yahoo since i can't put urls in comments) is one of the better places to get a deal. Sweetwater Music(again, yahoo) will help you out as well...that's where I got mine. :-)
patchmanmusic. yahoo it or something. I plan to order a soundbank from them soon, and there are in fact samples of the soundbank, so look on the website, it's great! :-)
What patch is that? Shoot I wish I knew where he is grabbing these great sounds and he's so non-schelont about it when you talk to him. Mike Brecker was at least a little more technical when he'd talk about his work throughs. :(
Mintzer now uses the Patchman Music EWI4000s upgraded soundbank in his EWI4000s. He talks about it on his forum at his website. Google "Patchman Music EWI4000s" for more details.
Bob could make a paper and comb sound great! His command of the bebop language is awesome!! Even on an EWI... Don't much care for the sound, but his timing and phrasing bring it to life.
Love that guitarish sound of that EWI! This is the newest model EWI right now and I'd love to buy one! Does anyone know what this song is called? It's totally hip, Yellowjackets is always a favorite.
No, I think that we're talking apple/orange here. Have you heard the Birthday Concert (Jaco) when Brecker takes 5, 6, 7, 8? choruses in "the Chicken" and then Mintzer stands up and you're thinking... "How can he follow that?!? Two tenor solos in a row?" And Mintzer brings a whole new, fresh approach!!! Wow, what a postlude to Brecker's improvisation! Mintzer is for REAL! He's no Michael for sure, but Michael was no Mintzer. The two can exist equally significant in my book! CD
It is a hard instrument to play WELL. :-) Since there are no keys that go up and down, you ahve to have accurate technique, or else your playing sounds sloppy. Also, changing octaves smoothly takes lots of practice, and lots of folks out there aren't practicing enough. ;-) Mintzer has it down quite well.. he's the man.
it is terrifically difficult to get the bends and slides clean.. but again, practice practice practice. The patches aren't as good as they could be.. they need some tweaking. But, i still prefer the 4000s to eariler models, it plays much smoother.
I think his fly is open.

yes - I agree, Mintzer and Brecker are very awesome and very unique and there is no need to compare the two. Plus, they are good friends too.

Yes, they were great friends. Their styles are different.
Besides, sax playing isn't a competition.
