  • @IKARTRACER See my other comment lol I forgot to hit the reply button

  • Hop direction and which hand you hold the seat with is all personal preference, but you should always hop the opposite direction from the hand you hold the seat with. ITMS easier just to switch hands than it is to switch directions though. Getting to tire is all about commitment. Start with something small, and work your way up. I started by static pallets up that way I could control the height.

  • also i grab the seat with my right hand and like to hop to the right. should i be hopping to the left with my right hand on the seat or the right with my left hand on the seat????

  • like im not afraid to get my pedal and crank on something. i can go for anything with the pedal and crank but i am scared shitless to get the tire on. ANYONE please help me

  • PLEASE HELP ME, i fucking suck at hopping and ive tryed everything. i just cant build up the nerve to get onto the object im trying to hop onto. im fucking mad as hell at myself so please help me. ive been trying to hop high forever.

  • omg thank u

  • @MrButler8up ront foot but either way is fine it's all about what feels better. Learn both ways and it will make you a much better rider.

  • @MrButler8up it's all personal preference and depends on which side you hop to. I personally hop to my left with my left foot back and my right hand holding the seat. This is a good stance but is less stable for accurate pedal grabs when jumping. If I was to switch my stance and hop to my right with my right foot forward and my left hand holding the seat I could pedal grab a little easier since I wouldn't have to swing up and back to get onto something. So generally it's better to hop to your f

  • @mrheidema if you're looking into getting into trials then get a 19" trials unicycle, if you're just wanting to do a lot of tricks get a 20" unicycle. You'll be able to find either kind by looking for a 20" unicycle but just an fyi a trials unicycle is actually a 19" wheel.

  • @LinusUnicycle the only way to fix the problem you have is to start on things that you aren't afraid of jumping up. Then slowly as you get really good at those you go to something a little higher and eventually you won't be afraid. It also helps to remember that you will almost always land on your feet.

  • @chillybilly826 practice jumping with just the one hand on the seat. If you have both hands on the seat you end up less stable and if you fall you risk hurting yourself. Take the hand that is on the side that you jump in the direction of off the seat. So if you jump to the left you should have your left hand free. Hope that helps!

  • how can you do it with one hand. i have to grip the seat with both hands (when doing a seat out jump) how can i fix this or does it matter one hand or two hands.

  • Compress it fully? It feels like my tires made of stone when its all the way compressed! Can someone explain this for me?

  • @JackoUni it means to push down the unicycle as much as you can, so the preassure in the tire gets higher, "compress" so you can get a high jump, this is called "pre jump"

  • thanks alot, very helpfull, im off to try it out

  • Hello, idk if your still active here but i have a problem.. When im going to jump it feels like its 2 high so i can't do it, its like im scared to fall or something.. Any tips how i can get rid of this? Thanks for any replies

  • What size wheele do you have?? Please answer.. I am getting a new unicycle.. And suggustions of wheele size?? I am 14, and about 115lbs. Thanks

  • @MrHeidema good idea to get a 20 "

  • get a 20"

  • does it matter which pedal is forward when i hop--------------i like to hop with the object to my left and hand on the right side of the seat

  • @thatguru877 owch? I hope you wear gloves. That sounds like it could rip

    skin off your hands.

  • @sdmtr8 when I was first learning to hop I did that but then I realized it was actually making hopping a lot harder. Practice just stopping while riding forward then going again. When you have the pedal control down for that try riding, then stopping and hopping once and then riding again. Eventually you'll get to the point where you can hop without your feet on the cranks.

  • does anyone else jump with their feet on the cranks? its such a bad habit i have i keep cutting up my ankles but its the only way i cant jump unless im riding and just hop a little curb but to jump up onto rocks and things im always on the cranks

  • thanks for the advice, i can finally jump more than 2 inches

  • I've found that it helps to turn toward the object you are jumping onto while in the air, as this will make it easier for your tire to grab onto the object, and even if you didn't jump high enough, if your tire grabs, you can still pedal onto the object. Hope this helps...

  • ii it easier to high up the seat??

  • I thought high Jump -.- I was Like Wth . LOL

  • Man you're good

  • okay iv justt got jumpos like this and one tip i have is get really comfortable with riding SIF

then start side hopping sif but only on things that are about half your max height for seat in then start working up from there

  • Thanks but do you start with the seat under u or in front of u

  • if you make a much longer and harder double hop, can you jump much higher.

and try to tuck the uni so much up under your self, that you are tuch it wits your a#s and then lay it a little down... Now you hav learnt highjump!

  • ive heard it was easier to jump with the seat lower, but recently somebody else told me its easier with the seat higher. which one is better?

  • it's all personal preference with seat height. I used to ride with my seat really low now I ride with it really high.

  • okay thanks, thats what I thought.

  • im trying to learn seat out, i've been doing pretty good seat in lately. i cant find a good grip though. i ride a KH20

  • I grip on the side of the seat near the seatpost, but good grip is on the side of the wide back end of the seat.

  • @DucttapesUnicycle I put grip tape under my seat.

  • yes but it is much more difficult.

  • i can even jump 20 cm with the seat in. any tips?

  • lol thats wierd i can jump onto a park bench with the seat in but can barely get up a curb with it out

  • seat out is much harder to learn but after you learn it you can hop much higher than with the seat in. Work a lot on your seat in hopping (at least to 26") then start learning seat in front, when you start to learn seat in front pedal pressure is crucial it must be even on both pedals. do squats where you try touching your butt to the tire and standing back up it also helps your seat in front hopping.

  • ah that really helps i may try that when my uni is fixes, thanks:)

  • i get hardcore rashes on my legs from sit rubbing agianst my leg

  • lol sme!

  • i ha d aheelll o a time trying to hop holding the seat infront of me but i can hop like 3-4 feet with it under

  • dont think you can hop 3-4 feet with it under unless you do rolling. 4 feet is over 100 cm

  • My problem is that I can't kee the unicycle from wabling around when I do my seat out side hop like that (high jump) but when when I do my rolling hop (seat in) in can hop nearly 60 cm. Any advice on how to get the bench to stop moving and hitting my legs?

  • work on keeping even pressure on both pedals. That helps a lot.

  • Hey I just have a small question.I've been unicycling for nearly a year and I cant find a good way to side hop seat out like you've demonstrated I can hop about 25" or 70-75 cm high with the seat under me, and when I try hopping with the bench out I reallllly have problems? Any tips on that? And do you have some tutorial on how to get that right?

    Thanks a lot!

  • This video isn't actually me riding, but if you read through the other comments on this video I tried to give some tips that might help you a little, sorry I couldn't help a little more.

  • hi, i've been riding for about 7 months and i can jump about 70 cm with seat out. i've just learned it by looking at mark fabian and joe hodges. i think it's pretty easy.

  • I don't think i can even jump that high normally without crouching... On a uni I can get like 9 inches at most...

  • can u tell me i want to learn to do all those jumps but what should i get trail or freestyle. Also wat did u use

  • that would be trials you need to get. and also ive only read the coments on this page but i own thwm all with a 96 cm roll hop

  • Une video très utile!! Merci

  • sweeet thanks, that one big landing looked rough! nicely done

  • Thx it helps a lot!

  • Hi ryan! i'm one of the kids that went to your workshop at camp fortune.

  • thanx it might help :)

  • how much pressure do u put in ur tire 4 dis?

  • that is different for everyone, some like more pressure and some like less pressure, it's up to you, I like to put about 45-50 PSI in my tire and I weigh 130 pounds

  • i weigh like 200 pounds and have a 20 inch trials tire how much air do u think get the most bounce?

  • as much as you need in order to not rim your rim on the ground. There is no set number or any way I can really recommend a certain amount of air.

  • I really loved this tutorial , ive been looking for a high jump tutorial for a while and this one is reaaly good ,keep posting :-)

  • nice tutorial :) it helped...but im still having trouble jumping SIF :P how long did it take you to get it?

  • a few weeks, It takes a long time to figure out but once you get it, then it's pretty easy.

  • ok :) thanks for that

  • wen i try to sif my weel goes to one side and i kainda fall over side ways (i think it might be cos i have one leg slightly weeker then the outher cos i used to have a bad leg)anyway....did u have this problen? if u did do u have any tips on it?

  • keep even pedal pressure, when you notice your wheel falling to one side put a little more pressure on the opposite side that is falling, this should even out your weight on the uni and you can stay balanced easier. SIF takes time to learn, I'm still not very good at it, this video isn't me by the way,

  • oh cool ill try it 2 morrow i uni lyk evry day now cos i got a new qu-ax uni yester day and its sick so ill start practising thanks for the advice(:

  • yeah, no problem, anytime.

  • I have seen this tutorial too much times... Very nice for do tutorials guy! don't do your homework and do more tutorials...:D

(the link whit more cicks is from spanish forum, xD thanks again and sorry by my English)

  • nice job i unicycle for 2 jears so thanks again for the tips xd

and how high do you jump ????

  • You welcome for the tips but this video isn't me, it's Ryan Atkins' video I can jump almost as high though...

  • ah ok but he looks younger in his vid ???

  • I don't remember exactly when he made it but it's a fairly old video.

  • i just learned how to unicycle. good job!

  • check out mi vid (unicycle trials)

  • I remember watching this like a year ago...thanks for reposting, it really is good.

  • no problem, I found it when someone brought it back up in a thread somewhere on the forums and I downloaded it to my computer and decided to post it on youtube so people could find it easier.

  • Good stuff. What kind of uni is that? I just started learning this summer on a Torker CX 20". I started riding trails and really like it, but I'd like to try some tricks too. Can you do both on the same uni?

  • I dunno what kind of uni it is it looks like a Nimbus trials unicycle, this isn't my video I just posted it for peopel to see.

  • Yes a Torker CX is an ok unicycle but the seat SUCKS I own a CX myself, if you really want to try tricks and trials and stuff then save up for a more expensive unicycle a CX is fine to learn on but wont last long doing trials and stuff, if you haven't already join unicyclist(dot)com and if you didn't get your unicycle online you'll find a huge selection at unicycle(dot)com hope I help you out good luck learning!
