Real basketball is a thinking man's game. Not a "step on the court after eight hours at work in boots and hit half court shots" sort of game. There's a difference between tossing a ball through a net hung ten feet off the ground and playing basketball.

But it's more a game of instinct and athleticism than anything. Go out there and think about what you're going to do and try to do it. You'll be great running a set offense, but you couldn't hop in w/a group of random guys and just play.

Real basketball just flows, it just comes to you, without thinking. It's the same w/so many sports. The thinking puts you in the position to make the play, but it's the instinct and athleticism that helps you execute it.
