A friend of mine pointed out how much this track sounds like The James Gang song There I Go Again. Does anyone know whether this similarity was due to homage, plagarism or just plain zeitgeist?
Sorry for for the tardy reply. Umm… Each album that I do seems to be more fun than the last so the Blue Coupe album, Tornado on the Tracks, is my most fun album. The most difficult album was Mirrors mainly because I didn't agree with the producer's, Tom Werman, approach to the recording process. I love the night was inspired by Ann Rice's "Interview With a Vampire."
I can't imagine having arguments on YouTube with guys I was in bands with decades ago! Or maybe I could if any of my bands had any success! Anyway, someone once said being in a band is like a relationship with no sex. Some guys I played with back when that either I gave the boot or who gave me the boot; we might not have much nice to say to each other if we crossed paths.
I'm a huge BOC fan since the first album and was aware of this stuff and was dying to hear it for years -- sounds great.
@MisterMojoSinkin You are so right. I found this thing on You Tube a year or so ago and responded to what I thought was an innocent question from a fan about why I left the band. It unleashed such an angry torrent from Albert that I was knocked on my ass. I really didn't and don't want to get down in the weeds with him or anyone else. I left it behind so long ago - 41 years! - so why is there still such venom? And I'm the guy who got kicked out! I wonder if Pete Best has to put up with this?
I love this entire album. BOC Has always been my favorite band but this sounds nothing like them really. I'm amazed at how they excelled with this sound and then turned it inside out and came up with the BOC sound. Buck's guitar playing is incredible on this album.
Such bitterness....I didn't say anything nasty about Albert so I wonder why he is so hostile toward me here after 40 plus years. It was a nasty surprise to find myself a has-been at age 22. BTW, I have told several people that I admired Albert for being the only one "man enough" to call to tell me when Rhino released our album after so many years. From the other guys, not a word. So I am sending out this message in a public forum: peace already, the years are going by and we are all adults now.
Yes, peace Andy, but don't ever repeat the lie that I wanted Joe in the band and that's why you were out. It's just not true. OK. I love my brother but he just did it as a favor because we needed a bass player. He doesn't even really play bass! He would have rather played piano, which he is still great at incidentally. Roter knew! I've always been fond of you, Andrew, and I think you were an awesome bass player. But we were maturing at different rates and we needed to do something.
Too bad about Andy's comments about the BOC history part. He's leaving out all the f**ed up sh*t he did to get himself canned. At least I'm man enough to admit my mistakes. BTW Joe wasn't my 1st choice but it worked out better anyway.
@altbouch I've spent 41 years reading about all the "fucked up shit" I did to get myself canned. It's easy to tell a pack of likes when the person you are talking about isn't there to defend himself. The liner notes that came with the Rhino CD are full of lies about me, too. Nowhere has anyone acknowledged my role in starting the thing in the first place. It was Joe Dick and me backing up David Roter on his songs in Setauket. Don came along and we had a jam session Pearlman heard - that was SWU.
the thing I love about this clip ... I think that Buck Dharma already sounds fully formed. But the whole band is taking at least a couple of queues from the West Coast community,,,,
I man, other than John Cipollina ... my fave guitarist all-time is Buck ... although J.C. is right up there .. thing is, I gotta believe Buck loves John too.
Basically, Albert wanted his brother in the band so he staged an elaborate coup d'etat to get Joe in and me out. It was a nasty thing to do and he paid for it when the same thing happened to him at the height of BOC's fame and fortune during a tour in England. That's the story I heard, anyway. This has been documented in various places on the web. Now the brothers have kissed and made up, apparently.
@Inviernos48 Nobody should construe from this statement that I was gloating about Albert losing his job with the band. It is a nasty thing to have happen, as I know all too well myself. David Roter told me about it and I told David I felt sad for Albert. That's the unvarnished truth and Albert should know it.
@altbouch Albert, thanks for the info on Eric's vocals. Very cool to see you responding to the vid, man! I loved you guys, used to see you in Spokane back in the 70's. Do you recall the Norwester 76 festival out at State Line Idaho, when all hell broke loose? Tried to find you guys at the hotel in Coeur d alene, but turns out you stayed in the Spokane valley. Thanks for all the great tunes!!!
Love the album, and this is prob. the best song on it! They sounded almost like the Dead or Jefferson Airplane, but without all the annoying tie-dye and flowers!! Thanks for posting and assembling the images!

didn't the name The Cows also feature at some point? I read a great article in a Zig Zag maybe 30 years ago, wish I still had it now!

That is the sound of Eric Bloom discovering his own original voice. Cool, isn't it?
