Well, I have no right to tell you what is or isn't good acting. But I think the video is subtly symbolic: Sean helps his dad to belong in a society that has rejected him, but the fear of failure drives him to alcohol. In the end, however, they realize that it's best to be yourself - this is represented by the use of casual "yo momma" jokes instead of formal stand-up. As a result, the Davenports come closer as father and son...I think it's profound :)

and another thing: it seemed awkward to hand a teenage son a photo from a time when THE SON WAS ALREADY ALIVE, saying "this is how long it's been", as if he didnt know! i see what you are trying to extract from the video, and if that was true it would be wonderful. however, the director was to vague and too shallow with his assertions to get the message across. and if "themselves" is dissing a random stranger with yo mama jokes, then... they are not very intellectual people.

Project Direct required all submissions to feature a scene in which a photo is passed. Even if that scene is a bit awkward, I think it was appropriate, considering the requirements. Furthermore, I don't think they were actually insulting the audience's mothers...it was intended for comedy (hence the laughter).

yeah i know it was a requirement. my point was that the obvious incorporation was awkward towards the SCENE. it looked unnecesary and synthetic. the issue of alcoholism is not a laughing matter. and i dont understand how yo mama jokes got the message across. the jokes weren't even that funny. was the audience full of high, intoxicated teenagers or something?
