I'm pretty sure the 944 Turbo does 0-60mph in 5.9s, which was fast back then. And the STI does 0-60mph in 4.8 seconds. I love Porsche's, I have a Boxster myself, but the STI should have won that easily.
@ProjectM97 It all depends... if the 944 turbo is chipped it will have about the same power as the stock STI which is only a lil heavier than the Porsche. And the 944 turbo only had 230 hp unless it was a Turbo S with 250. Pretty quick car for that much horsepower.
@ProjectM97 The Sti would get a 944 off the line because of it's all wheel drive... Give the Sti rear wheel drive and you're looking at a similar 0-60... You can actually squeeze a 5.5 0-60 time from a stock 944...... The 944t/951 will have the edge in mid range and top end... I should know... I had an 07 STi before I got into dept and had to sell it.... I now have a 944 that's currently running 17psi... Keeping up with a stock STi off the line wouldn't really be that difficult...

my friend has a 944 track car that has about 700hp and that car is build to handle up to 240mph hes selling it and just had it appraised for about 130k he and his friend built it and hes only 18 its a hell of a car and i just hope he lets me drive it before he sells it. im thinking about getting a 944. my dad almost got me one when i was 14 and my mom said no :(but im thinking of getting one now.

Lol, the Subaru also has AWD, so if you know anything about clutched cars, you'll know that you can't completely dump the clutch and mash it in an AWD car or else you're just going for a nice clutch smokeshow.
@thinkpad411 Not a problem with only 280-300hp. Sti's got reinforced transmission and drivetrain and a proper clutch. It might not hold forever treating it rough but it'l be ok. I can se what you mean though, but if the car packs a punch, just get a proper clutch.
To put you all to bed the body of the Porsche 944 was made at the Audi plant in Neckarlsum Germany. Some electronics are VW. The transmissions were made by Porsche and Audi, and the engines were made at Porsche in Zuffenhausen. In no way did Saab have anything to do with the 944.

@Armornone The 944 shares a lot with the 924 which was designed by Porsche to be a volkswagen and had a VW van engine in fact. The 944 was restyled (looking dramatically better in my opinion) and has an engine which is in effect half of te V8 produced for the Porsche 928. All that can be verified - I don't think there is any connection with saab at all - the tailights may look saabish granted but lots of cars resemble other cars if you nitpick about it.

No its not. But it is very much a Porsche if youve ever driven one you would know this.This car was a masterpiece, it still outruns 4 cyclinder turbos 20 plus years from its production. Talk about being ahead of the competition. I know this as I own one a 86 to be exact and it is an amazing car. The handling is superb, it carves through turns likes it's on rails. Not many cars nowadays can keep up with its handling capabilities. except for newer model Porsches, and other high end sports cars.

Um...I used to work at a Porsche dealership up until recently and have driven nearly every model other than a Carrera GT. I've also owned a 944 and know the cars extremely well.
A Cayman S is MUCH faster than a 944 Turbo. A standard Cayman, non-S, isn't though.

My 2004 Range Rover uses a BMW engine( Range Rover is in England and BMW in Germany). My old Ford Probe ( from America) has a Mazda engine from Japan. Taken cobras? what a 98-01 model? try a 03-04 cobra and it will change the way you feel about your car.... I owned an 951 for 3 years... pretty quick little car for only a 2.5l 4 cyl. but definatly not up for the challenge of a terminator cobra..... oh and 928s never made a turbo.
I've done things in 944 turbos that race car drivers wouldn't attempt. Flat make you cry to get out. Those and 928 are the shit,,,, I know from experience. Although I haven't driven a 928 turbo,,,but I can only imagine.
Pretty easy to mod a 951 to completely out perform on every level. Turbos are sweet like that. 928 has the luxury. Apples and oranges, your comparing a racing developed porsche, to a GT car.
The 928 kills them all. Check out the 928 vs 951 vid- not even close- plus the 928 well outdistsnces the 951 top end, too (close to 175mph vs 160 for the 944T.

Ummm. I'd have to agree with the above guy. I used to have an 87 944s and that thing was fast with loads of torque. I remember racing a 5.0 and even though it was close I stayed out ahead. Topping out over 150 mph. That's a 4 cyl against a powerful 8 cyl. I'm driving a Lexus is250 now, but still miss that Porsche.
i always like the 944 turbo in guards red, but it lacks serious power. Then again, it is an old car. wrx sti is poor in my opinion compared to other cars on the road today.

Lol, the Subaru also has AWD, so if you know anything about clutched cars, you'll know that you can't completely dump the clutch and mash it in an AWD car or else you're just going for a nice clutch smokeshow.

@thinkpad411 Not a problem with only 280-300hp. Sti's got reinforced transmission and drivetrain and a proper clutch. It might not hold forever treating it rough but it'l be ok. I can se what you mean though, but if the car packs a punch, just get a proper clutch.

To put you all to bed the body of the Porsche 944 was made at the Audi plant in Neckarlsum Germany. Some electronics are VW. The transmissions were made by Porsche and Audi, and the engines were made at Porsche in Zuffenhausen. In no way did Saab have anything to do with the 944.

@Armornone The 944 shares a lot with the 924 which was designed by Porsche to be a volkswagen and had a VW van engine in fact. The 944 was restyled (looking dramatically better in my opinion) and has an engine which is in effect half of te V8 produced for the Porsche 928. All that can be verified - I don't think there is any connection with saab at all - the tailights may look saabish granted but lots of cars resemble other cars if you nitpick about it.

No its not. But it is very much a Porsche if youve ever driven one you would know this.This car was a masterpiece, it still outruns 4 cyclinder turbos 20 plus years from its production. Talk about being ahead of the competition. I know this as I own one a 86 to be exact and it is an amazing car. The handling is superb, it carves through turns likes it's on rails. Not many cars nowadays can keep up with its handling capabilities. except for newer model Porsches, and other high end sports cars.

Um...I used to work at a Porsche dealership up until recently and have driven nearly every model other than a Carrera GT. I've also owned a 944 and know the cars extremely well.
A Cayman S is MUCH faster than a 944 Turbo. A standard Cayman, non-S, isn't though.

My 2004 Range Rover uses a BMW engine( Range Rover is in England and BMW in Germany). My old Ford Probe ( from America) has a Mazda engine from Japan. @TheHevquip Do you know what a Ford Probe is? Do you know what a Mazda MX-6 is? Do you know that both cars are actually built in the same factory and use almost the exact same parts. For example the engine in a ford probe is a mazda engine.
Do you know the Porsche SUV and the Volkswagen SUV are almost identical and share parts and made at the same factory. Porsche and Saab had a partnership like that at once point. Made some bad cars and never did it again. This is not uncommon.

I know they had another 3rd party company build their computer at one point and they placed their HP name and logo on it however this information was not disclosed. Same thing with the NEVO SL remote and and certain Creston remote are identical except for the name. Sometimes Costco will sell Kirtland brand which is actually another brand. These type of backroom deals are done and kept secret. Why would you pay Porsche money for a Saab?

nice take on the subie, you guys can argue these two cars all day, bcs in the end, they are both turbo-charged 4 cylinders... the blocks can only be soo big and the car can only handle so much.
the subie has the all-wheel drive, but the porshce does weigh less... it all comes down to who has more money to throw in the cars... and ftr, the porshce would prolly still pull the subie bcs of teh subaru's tranny. they arent the greatest things in the world.

The car is capable of 300 whp on stock turbo weighs in around 3000 lbs. With a larger turbo more power is easily had.

Ummm. I'd have to agree with the above guy. I used to have an 87 944s and that thing was fast with loads of torque. I remember racing a 5.0 and even though it was close I stayed out ahead. Topping out over 150 mph. That's a 4 cyl against a powerful 8 cyl. I'm driving a Lexus is250 now, but still miss that Porsche.
