This was from back in the days when Porsche still built beautiful-looking cars....for a sheep-like public who refused to buy them because they didn't say "911" on the back.
What is amazing about the 928 is how modern it looks. Actually it looks like a new car out of the production line. How many other 80's and 90's cars can claim that? Completely timeless design. The 87-> model simply won't age at all.
Buy a Boxster S unless you need the baby seat in the back. I love the 928 (see comments) but it is yesterdays supercar. A Boxster S or Caymen S would see it off, whilst giving better mpg and better reliability. You have to spend big bucks to find a low miles FSH 928 and you never get the money back.
I had a 928 S4 in 1998/9 . I was 27 and found it so easy to drive very fast. Someone told me that whilst Porsche made the car every test driver chose it as thier mode of transport over the 911 of the day. Brilliant car , I still miss it. For a heavy carit would move. I did 126 miles in 1hr 3 mins on UK roads on Boxing Day 1998 ( 125mph average ) awesome.
I'm hoping to one day own a 928 GT or GTS. Your words tell me that this would be a choice I would not regret. The 928 seems to be the super car one could drive every day. Wil you ever buy another?
What I found hard to deal with in my GTS was getting 8-10mpg around town. It cost me more than a taxi to get around. Thats why I bought a VW Golf tdi for city/every day driving.
Snap I live in Yorkshire now and the pace is a little slower so I use a 32 year old Landrover and a Golf TDi 4Motion to get about. My Landy has never been passed 55mph lol.
My friend Joel had one of these once, actually it was his dads. It rolled off a pier one night into lake Michigan. I think it cost him $8Gs to get it restored at the dealership. You wouldn't believe how he got the money to pay the bill. :)
dont ever disrespect porsches like that asshole....for 1980's this car was beautiful, the first v8 porsches ever mad and it was awesome wish i had it back then
I did end up buying a satin-black metallic '88 944 that was in awesome shape. But It just wasn't quick enough for me. Especially when ur best friend's driving a 300zx twin turbo lol
I grew up with Porsches..My parents had 3 at one time even! I was 6. They had a 86 924S (which had the Euro hp at 150bhp), and two 928's. The old one was brown, it was an '84 928S. Both are gone now, but the third... the Guards Red '89 928S4 is still in the garage and they stopped driving it so much, now its driven once a year and has 47K miles. When I graduate college, they'll let me buy it:) We also bought a '76 911 turbo 5 years ago(I posted a vid)
i drive a porsche 911 carrera its s a 966 model have it 2yrs its awesome ill never drive anything else!!!apart from a new one hopefully its goin to be the 911 turbo just have to save up 220,000 euro i'm buying lottery tickets right now!
I have one - an '89 S4. Yes it costs a bit to fix, but much less than any other supercar. Drive it every day and it's much happier. And yes, I grin a lot :)
Yeah...certainly a pretty cool thing! : ) I was 16, too! But the fact that it was an '89 and German-born (duh!) means when something breaks....It's $500+ to fix and sometimes 2 weeks with no car, so my dad just couldn't justify keeping it, but it was a FUN car! : )
Sure enough! At least you had one. Where I live (Argentina) for me it would be impossible to have that car. Here cars cost a SHITLOAD of money, so buying a porsche when you´re 24 is out of question.
If my dad wants perhaps he could buy one, but it would cost 5 times more than the US and the spare parts would cost 5 times more as well! So It REALLY sucks! I thought about going to the US and buy one but for the time being It´s almost impossible.

I swear these cars are the best-kept-secret in the used performance car world. You can't beat the performance and build quality for the price.

Probably not as fuel in the UK is now 7.5 $ a gallon. 1 Gallon in the Porsche would do 16 miles if I took it easy.

@Curveking I was lucky I drove the GTS when you could drive at speed on the quiet roads. We weren't persecuted for owning fast cars.
If they caught me at 165mph on the public roads today, I would probably ge jailed.
Now I feel I'm driving fast if I hit 90mph. I drive very safely now. But I arrive so much calmer. I don't get road rage anymore.
I also love Landies, I'm thinking of getting a fairly old Discovery Tdi5, only need about £2k for a decent one.

If you had a 944 Turbo, then you would've smoked your friend ;-P

I know, I wanted one so bad. It always sucks when theres a better model of ur car running around. That was another reason for getting rid of it:)

My dad owned an S4 one for about 7 years before the running/fixing costs became too much. It was a sweet ride, that's for sure!! : )

Damn! I envy you!
The only bad thing about having those cars in US is that you can´t drive them nowhere fast but... well, you just drove a 928! Not many people do that
