  • It makes perfect sense. Pull a resistance band and then let it go. What happens? It snaps back to it's original form very quickly. Your not hitting yourself in the face, your trying to hit your opponent in front of you therefore it is helping body to learn how to activate its fast twitch muscles going forward and backwards.

  • Another teqnique I tried is gettn a tredmil with 2 5lb weights n shadowboxing for bout 15 20 mins

  • I saw this video about 1 1/2 month ago n tried this teqnique I see n notice improvments thanks for tips

  • having to pull back your hands at the end of your punch with resistance does work on speed. to extend your punches then pull back fast is gunna give you a sharp snap to your punches. the faster you snap your punches, the quicker they are, especially when you are doing combinations. the faster you pull your hands back, the sooner you can throw that next punch...

  • Hahah love how the Asian guys are just joking around while the white guy is trying his hardest to keep up.

  • this would work if they turned around

  • Lol this video makes no sense, since when is punching a pulling motion?

  • @MrIllcat since you have to pull your hands back in guard after punching

  • @eddy1337 You don't need strength or resistance to do that. It's all about creating good habits when your bringing your hands back to your face, pulling on things isn't going to help you with that.

  • @MrIllcat It's actually pretty important to bring your hand (after the punch) as quick as possible back to your face to cover up and defend.

you have to pull your punches.

  • @Spunkyinternall Just...no. Any resistance band training should be forward momentum and then hands back to your face. Not pull on these cords at shoulder height as fast as you can. You don't seem to grasp the concept that i'm talking about making good habits. When you spar a lot of beginning guys like to drop their hands after punches and the only way to fix that is consistent repetition of the punches and then when your back you have your hands up.

  • @MrIllcat yes your right indeed. But I think this kinda works differently..it's like drummers using weights on their legs (while drumming) to improve their technique with Dubble bass. after they remove the weight's they go faster. And from shoulder height...is indeed pretty stupid XD...

Maybe the students miss the concept? they just need to spar and get 'smackt in the face' to learn how to bring there hands up :P.

  • 4 seconds of full speed punching... after that you are training stamina and not speed.

  • i think u r wrong, u should do the exercise from other way, turn 180o and then the exercise is right.

  • who actually needs fists anyway use ya fucking head or elbow or knee like me do more damage =D

  • replay 313 has been talking shit on several boxing videos ive looked at, whats the big deal, hes not that impressive.

  • hahahaha

  • pretty impresive, seen another vid on speed training i think it's really cool youtube(dot)com/watch?v=YRM1R5QBZnk&feature=related

  • i agree ur born with speed but u can make yourself even faster to be a more of a nut

  • nobody is born with speed its acquired through dedication and hardwork..

  • Nonsence, many more athletes would win the 100 meter sprints from different countries if that was the case.

  • You cannot train speed just like you cannot train chin. You either got it or you aint.

  • bullshit

  • ....as answer to previous comment

  • Yeah your full of it

  • your an Idiot, you cannot train a good chin, but you can improve speed. Are all sprint runners born with it? or did they train hard and work their ass off to increase it......you sir are a tool.

  • who you never stated any of that before dickface, you just made a bold and retarded statement, its pretty fucking obvious that you cant make say someone 260 lbs punch as fast as say a Manny Pacquiao but you made an idiotic statement saying someone cannot punch faster, I can honestly say I seen guys come in as slow(er) punchers and then with time were punching very god damn fast, your a pretty fucking dumb guy to say the lease, go to any gym and ask a coach if speed can be attained and you'll see

  • What an ignorant little arsehole you are mate.If you are slow, you will allways be slow, hand speed/speed full stop is a natural born thing, just like being able to hit hard and just like being able to take a shot on the jaw.You can optimise your speed but no matter how hard you train if your slow your slow, end of fucking story you muppet.Your a muppet son,a thicko and a thicko full of shyte to put it mildly. Now shut the fuck up and peddle your nonsence to those that no no fucking better.

  • hes probably not your mate or your son

  • True,no retards in my family.

  • Actually you can train a chin. Tony Jaa's first trainer, trains trains his jaw, by tying a rope to the handle of a bucket of cement and lifting it with his teeth. It strengthens the jaw muscles. Also if you continue to strike a bone, it develops cracks that continue to heal thicker and thicker. It's called Wolfe's Law. If you did the cement bucket thing, and smacked your jaw on a regular basis (not hard mind you), there is no reason why most anyone could train their chin.

  • u can train but it wont be effective cause it wont be that hard cause its structured that way. The chin is a vital point that is had to be trained . But u cah train ur knuckles

  • so is this exercise good or bad?

  • Afaik punching with weights is bad because the weights pull your punches to the ground while u try to punch directly to your target, without weights it could happen that your punches could break out and u hit above your target, another point is that there is too much impact on your joints when u stop your punch and pull back for the 2nd one, while holding a weight that your body isn´t made for, thats what i heard about and experienced but maybe it works for some other (sry 4 the bad engl.)

  • They should turn around.Punch speed is better to train with weights.

  • no thats bad for u

    never punch with weights

  • why not? bruce lee did it alot

  • @cain0104 how

  • @cain0104 Why not punch with weights?

  • @Silent0Seven because you'll screw your elbows to hell and back. It's fine for endurance work and just working technique as long as your doing the movement slowly and not snapping your elbows. It helps speed but save moving fast for after you put the weights down, not while your using the weight.

  • Globakizator punching with weights is not bad, but it doesnt help really. Anything over 3 pounds is bad, you risk damaging the shoulder, hyperextending the elbow and it can actually impair your speed. The reason they do it the way they do is because you actually use the biceps and lats more than the triceps in a punch so they are increasing their speed in the biceps and lats. The best way to increase speed is practice technique withought weights.

  • I mean tension should work to another direction if they want to increase strength or it is better to lift your self up.But on this video it looks like they want to increase speed of strike or durability.

  • Strength, punching speed and power are all three different things. For strength just lifting weights works. This helps their endurance which adds to their speed when they fatigue later in a fight. It doesnt directly effect their speed or power.

  • this is just training them to pull their punches back, the resistance needs to be the other way so they develop the muscles that launch their fists forward

  • u gyes sound like native indians

  • funny; sounds like a djungle!

  • this is so dumb

  • arnt you supose to be facing the other way o0

  • thats what i thought too

  • this is to train their speed for pulling back after the punch

  • to all fighters... If your looking for exercises to increase explosive strength and power make sure that whatever the exercise you let go of the weight. by hanging on to the weight you will become slower. This is because your antagonist muscles are activating to stop your arm being ripped out of your socket.. you should do no more than 3 sets 5 reps 30%-50% of your 1rm

  • It sounds like you know what you are talking about, but I dont understand what you mean?

can you make it more clear?

  • if they turned 180 degrees and punched that direction they would have resistance and it would be speed training! :)

  • nah mate they would only train their strength

  • It would also be speed training, because if you can hit faster with that resistance, you would even hit faster without that extra resistance, so I think its both.

  • cool

  • Did I heard "gochilla"

  • i dont understand why they are working on pulling on the bands instead of having the opposite end behind you so you can work on the pushing.

  • may for oposite efeckt? pushing is for fast punch pulling for fast retreat if you can do it fast and complet your next punch will be more effective

  • y were ppl yodelling? lol

  • retard,

  • i think they are training the pulling power after throwing punches so the arm can return to guarding position fast.. whether it works im nt too sure also =)

  • and if you dont return your arm enough then your next punch wont be efective, this is for speed punch

  • Actually this type of training does the opposite, it slows muscle receptors down. The correct way to do this is with the same equipment but to fire each shot as a deliberate mental motion from a motor set relaxed position. This allows the nerves to fire a fast twich via Actin release to the metachondia. The way this clip shows merely fatigues the receptors.

  • Thus sending the wrong signals to the brain as it trys to creates neural pathways to store this info on unfortunately leaving it thinking large amounts of Myosin and pyruvic acids are involed in the motion. God bless.

  • your basic idea is correct but physiological theory incorrect.Go read a textbook

  • agree about mental intention of speed but direction of resistance is wrong.metachondia?you mean mitochondria.

  • Sorry about my dyslexia it does do a number on from time to time.

  • nice training, but they sounded like a bunch of retards!

  • it's normaly for efective brathing be more tolerant

  • This is awesome for punching speed, you build more muscle from the pulling the the actually pushing (more on the - then the +) but both this and 3-5 lb dumbells should be used

  • str8 up fast jabs here, my own program, 5 kg dunbells. Jab with them for 5 min do 3 sets over and over, keep arms up. Thats a bit of help to increase majour speed and strength.

  • no it isnt in fact its the opposite of what you should do.Keep reps under 5,imagine the impession of explosiveness and do plyo pressups, med ball throws and do some contrast method punching on bag, extra light and heavy gloves. However speed alone is no good without timing, distancing, rhytym, technique.I do have degree in biomechanics and physiology.

  • timing is no good with out reaction speed. but are close at hand.

these are for just speed of muscle training. not to say your wrong cause if you have the degree who can argue. but no one would like a 5 hit combo to the chin

  • LOL YOU SOUND LIKE IT TOOO

  • READ THIS SLOWLY,never punch with a dumbell it makes you deccelerate at end and may damage elbow joint .Also anything over a few reps brings endurance not speed or power.5 mins?,where are you getting your info.

  • Complete waste of time!! learn some basic physiology channantha! wow!

  • in your physiology they must of skipped eccentric contraction. *rolls eyes* GREAT VIDEO!

  • yes you got me! my undergradute degree of human performance anatomy and physiology..oh yeah and my masters thesis went by with that word eccentric not touched!? shit!

love to hear you analysis of the eccentric movement here..and please please take the time to actually think about ur answer! sick of all these internet educated experts *roll eyes* ps while ur at it you can explain the original post that i was commenting on..

  • Well this work out is being performed by figthers in a gym with real ring experience. However if you do have a degree im intrested in developing faster punches. Since your calling this method a waste of time perhaps you can recommend a way thats actually effective.

  • ive already posted this info. Its better if you research this area yourself than rely on the views of anonymous posters.Remember the punchis extremely fast and force has not enough time to reach its maximum

  • Channantha is right on the money. If u bothered to think about what he is rambling about he is referring to neuromuscular adaptations from this specific motor pattern. The resistance bands help to train both intermuscular and intramuscular coordination. The body will find the most efficient recruitment of agaonist, antagonist, stabilizers, and neutralizers. Even more importantly the number, pattern, and rate encoding will be augmented.

  • rubber bands are poor for developing explosiveness by themselves.Their resistance increases near end of punch which is opposite of an unloaded punch.plyometric push ups,med ball pushes and low rep full power punches on bag are best.

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this a rehab video for fighters? Assuming the fighters are injured this is probably the best exercise for them.

  • It is not "resistance" traing it is "assistance" training. Do a google search for "overspeed"

  • like running downhill, I know, but theyre still working endurance not speed or else theyd just be doing a few reps with very long rests.never saw any research on overspeed training for punching though only sprinting.

  • It can be done for punching. but i agree these guys are not doing it very well.

  • this doesnt train speed,it trains endurance of muscles which retract arm.amazing how ignorant of kinesiology and sports physiology the commenters are.

  • ops... the title of clip is wrong ^^ so... -"-

  • Drink milk before u do that. It'll give u alot of good nutrition for your muscles. Also strengthen ur tendon. I do that the same thing but with a belt.

  • i think it build resistance in the muscle causes your muscles trying to go faster from the commands of the brains ass the body get use to the resistance they add mor when the resistance is gone the punch got so use to the resistance the arm is fooled the the bands are sill on and the punch will be quick and fierce

  • How does it work?
