People really need to stop going to these Can videos and starting arguments about Radiohead. 90% of the comments on Can videos allude to Radiohead. Can influenced EVERYONE. They're as influential to modern music as The Velvet Underground, and Radiohead is only one out of hundreds of bands who've taken cues from Can.
I like radiohead. don't listen to them much anymore. but still like them. I like can. listen to them very much. and I def. still like them.
I discovered radiohead before can. glad I followed that path. or I might have never discovered can!
not sure what everyone's obsession is with comparing 'artists' or music. sounds more like your trying to compare your intelect. in my opinion those that involve themselves in this act probably lack more than the before mentioned.
radiohead thats kind of a joke to even mention them personally my favorate band is porcupine tree steven wilson richard barbieri on keyboards colin edwin on bass and the best drummer in the world gavin harrison most talented musicians period and one of stevens main influences is can i see why they are amazing
Class track. Radiohead? Whay are people metioning an entry-level indie band in regards to Can? Radiohead are a bit like A Time Burton film, wierd and far out for people that really don't know what that is.
can definetly tell how can influenced radiohead. especially the singing style. it sounds like thom could be singing the vocals. and radiohead did a cover of can's "the thief" song.
the key to this debate is in the rhythm section, radiohead are masters of catchy hooks and song writing but the can rhythm section just destroys all that, that mantric repetition business and, oh yeah leave the bass drum dampners at home..
there's more to can than radio head......more layers, and no obvious lyrics to to the music down........can make u wanna dance and hypnotize u more, whereas radiohead (what little i heard) have more 'attitude'.
I really don't see the comparisons between Radiohead and Can, other than that they both play with electronics. Can was almost built around improvisation, and that is element is almost devoid from Radiohead's music.
guys! first of all - it seems only the early years of can influenced thom/radiohead. since they only covered stuff off their 68/81 album. the thief. I can see you doo right in 'there there' for the methodical tribal beats in the beginning heavy on the toms. i once read can was a band of 5 soloists. last time i checked radiohead was a working 5 man band.
the title of this song is actually 'I'm too leise' Which is half english/german: 'leise' is german for 'gentle/quiet' whereas liese doesn't really mean anything.
I have it on good authority that Thom Yorke now owns those white gloves of Holger Czukays and keeps them free of dust in his sideboard next to his prized doily collection.
Well, apparently at least one other person thinks that. But I don't see how it is somehow insulting to Can. You can't deny, say, the Beatles' influence on ELO, but that doesn't disparage the Beatles.
no this must have been recorded in 74, otherwise Damo Suzuki wouldn't be there (video zooms in on him at 3:10) as he left the band in late 1974 and retired from music until 1983.
That was around 1972 or 1973, but definitely NOT in 1974... Damo left in September of 1973 around the release of Future Days, and jaki had really shorter hair in 1974... actually, the group started to tour and record as a four-piece in late 1973. But anyway, it's a great clup, and phantastic grooves!
Nice clip, good song - relaxed and funky. Probably one of Damo's last performances with them. How come these clips on youtube weren't on the DVD? Still, brilliant that it's here.
i love can

The answer to the Can vs. Radiohead debate is very simple...
Did the Radiohead bass player ever play with white gloves? That to me is the essence of the jam, man. White gloves.

mastered a British kind of English accent, not
that it matters...grammar is not a fetish, though,I think.

I would say that 1973 would be more like it since there was no Damo in 1974 and Jaki had short hair.

Damo left in 74, but it wasn't right at the beginning. I know he was on Future Days, and that was in 74.
