  • I like her and the song but, really, the lyrics make no sense.

  • @nbanolfkid I think they make sense. It's not the way I would want to live but it seems clear enough.

  • @nbanolfkid I think they make sense. It's not the way I would want to live but it seems clear enough.

  • fantastic song and a beautifull woman

  • The 60's was a great time to grow up in musically starting with the Teen Idols, Girl Groups, Beach Boys/Surfing Music, the Beatles & all the great English & American Rock groups and finally the psycadelic era and Creedence Clearwater Revival. I wouldn't trade the memories for a million bucks!!!!

  • @m2xvdXfs Me too! The only thing I would trade it for is a chance to do it all over again!!!

  • @m2xvdXfs I am right there with you my friend!!!

  • She reminds me of Bobbie Gentry

    What do yall think?

  • Logging in from Wellington, New Zealand. Although Gale had retired from the music business by the 1980s, she continued appearing in feature films (such as 2002's My Big Fat Greek Wedding and on television shows, usually in supporting roles. In subsequent years, she also branched out into journalism, writing essays, columns, and book reviews for various newspapers and magazines. She also wrote and performed two one-person theater pieces, Gale Garnett & Company and Life After Latex.

  • A great talent but i have to agree she look a little strange in parts from the video.

a little insane in fact. Her expressions were not right. I am sorry..

  • from 2:10 to 2:25 she looks out of her mind!

  • @FunWithStuttering Well, you gotta be a little nuts to appear in public wearing that skirt!

  • Kiwi girl born in Auckland, raised in Canada from age 11.

  • A hard song. Who would stay with anyone that does not profess love? It's true,

in retrospect, it may have been fun in the sunlight for a year without love but

    kisses...

  • I met a woman once and our attraction initially was the blues. I remember this song from when I was 13 years old. I loved it then. After I met this woman I begged her to never sing this song to me. Cancer took her a year later.

  • When i here this it takes me back to when i was young and i can feel some of the feelings i had then that are lost, but when i hear this some of them come back...wow!

  • And also, what is she wearing? O_o it looks like a idek short sleeve Snuggie :D :3 I mean I know this video is old but o__3 xD very different from people now days like me :D mostly because I have piercings, and I also wear band tshirts and skinny jeans and short shorts etc... and very different hair xD like very different o___3

  • O_o I was on my grandmas computer going to youtube...but it went to this link instead....No offence...but I really Hate this son? mostly because I'm more into Screamo/Crunk Core/Rock/heavy metal/Death Metal/Emo/Punk... and I'm 16 :3but... what in the world is this.I regret listening to this..... D:

  • 1964 was a very good year. I was 11, I used to listen to our old wooden box radio to everything 1964 had to offer. What a time in history to be a kid and listen to all those songs. Sigh.

  • I was 4 years old in 1964, and i remember listening to this song and liking it..It brings back all kinds of feelings..Funny, I don't remember the Beatles from that year, but I remember Gail Garnett..

  • I'm 46 years old,and ever since I heard it on a radio station my father was listening to way back in the 70's, it has remained on my list of favorite songs.

  • One of my fave songs/records. And now a great video to accompany that!! A million thanxx.

  • Wow, a whole life time ago, two kids, four grandkids. disappointments etx,,but i love this song....

  • she looks pretty.good song even though it sounds like its from WWII.

  • This song is so good that it's like a gift from heaven. I can't imagine anyone not liking it. The melody, the lyrics, the sad story it tells: it all adds up to one thing: a masterpiece. What a tough act it must have been for Gale garnett to follow up this song with another hit. I was a teenager from 1968 till 1974: they were some of the best years of my life, and this song brings it all back.

  • atpcfi....Yeah, pardner, I think most of us had an experience like you described so well. Mine was also 40 years ago, the year I turned 22. I'll always remember, and it was GREAT while it lasted.

  • So beautiful, I agree w/ nightwing 1409. Her dark eyes are SO EXPRESSIVE!

  • Nightwing 1409 - maybe you need to quit looking at all the young girls today who haven't a clue how to look or act like a woman ;)

  • Beautiful. Thank you.

  • A beautiful song from yesteryear

  • I'm 64 now, but when I was 18 (in 1964) I met a young man and fell in love. We stayed together 1 year (almost) then our parents tricked us into splitting up. He was on the east coast, me on the prairies. We never found the money to get back together then, and went on with our lives. I will never forget him and this song always reminds me of that time.

  • ...i remember this broadcast ...back in '64...always loved this song and Gale....!

  • Love her and this song. hate the dress wth was she thinking. everyones taste are different, what make the world go round..

  • This song was sweet (back in the day, whenever that was) and still is SWEET!

  • I have loved this song for 45 years and it still makes me sad in a way but it also gives me sweet thoughts about the past.

  • she sings with her eyes, and that is the magic trick, use it make it work for you.

  • Sweet.

  • everybody's talking about how great this song was back in the day. i'm 29 and i'm just loving listening to it now. for the most part i only listen to 60's and 70's music. it just seems like much better quality than what we are offered nowadays.

  • pretty too!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Love this song! Brings back the 60,s and summers that seemed to last forever

  • I love you Gale!!!! From Chile my love to you!!!!

  • This song for some reason always makes me cry...and I remember this from a teen and I'm nearly 50!

I love this song...and she's not a voice coach but her voice is soothing.

  • she sings FLAT! flat flat flat flat!!!

  • she sings FLAT

  • flat flat flat flat!!!!! she sings FLAT

  • flat flat flat flat!!!!!

  • She's beautiful, and she can sing too! I also don't see "sexual" about this song whatsoever. I think it means she doesn't want a serious relationship, but they can be great friends and make the most of that. I really think the song is quite innocent.

  • @cmulwee001

I agree with you...I was a hopeless romantic even as a youngster...it made me sad this song but the melody is so sweet...and she is beautiful

  • She is soooo Beautiful in this Video.

  • I like this song. This song reminds me of something patsy cline would sing. Same kinda voice type.

  • Man! Does this song bring back memories!!

  • The Lyrics are tragic, but her voice is sultry.

  • I ve met Gale before, she's a friend of one my my friend's father. She's a pretty great person.

  • @MonsieurRondu Lol I realized that I posted that already a while ago, whoops

  • @garymichael1950 Gary tone it down please. It is one thing to point out a mistake but another to call someone a liar. You're right though, it was not banned.

  • I think I fell in love with that smoky alto voice around 1964, just couldn't get enough of that mellow sound. She was very big in the early 60's.

  • Wow, the memories....

  • My all time favorite song and i've heard a lot in 60 years.

  • Love the song, bring back good memories.

  • Great song! I still hear this on my local oldies station. Gale is really pretty. I love her hairtstyle here.

  • i was 11 when i first heard this riding in the car with my family--it had a very profound affect on my very inexperienced perspective about love and relationships..i suspect in a good way..love, love, LOVE IT!!!!

  • This is incredible song brings back more wonderful memories than any other. I was in 8th grade living on a military base in Japan in 1964. Great times and a great song for the times. There was a cute girl a year older than me that I sat beside on the school bus. She loved the song too and would sing it to me while we were riding. I was HAPPY!! I could listen to this forever.

  • BEAUTIFUL song!! Kinda sad too, but VERY GOOD! :)

  • What about that dress?

  • The Lancastrians sang it better.

    I'm a Cheshire Lad.

  • Great voice.

  • This lady is so rockin. thanks for posting!

  • BEAUTIFUL LADY AND GREAT SONG

  • Great song. Notice that she messes up the lip sych at 0:55. She starts singing "My Daddy . . . " while the song is "I'll sing to you . . . " The "My daddy" part isn't until 1:31.

  • Reminds me of my freshman year (1964) at Alderson-Broaddus College. I wondered then how I'd turn out. I turned out just fine, thank you.

  • This was banned on some radio stations back then, crazy but true. Sure brings back memories

  • @henerymag , Gosh, that's hard to believe. Nothing in the song suggests anything that warrants it being banned. Just goes to show how extreme censorship could be back then.

  • It's because she was singing about just living together. " I'll stay with you 1 year " as she put it. There were quite a few songs that were banned unless the words were changed. The song Big Bad John, about a miner who died was originaly " there lie"s a hell of a man" had to be changed to ' heck of a man" to be played on the radio.

  • That makes sense. When I first heard the song I thought it meant that she'd go steady with the guy exclusively for a year, then "Sayonara."

There were a few occasions where one of our local DJ's would coyly slip in that one line from Them's version of Gloria that was for the most part edited out when it was on the air.

  • @RoyFive Yes, we were much more polite and civilized in those days.

  • @henerymag this song wasn't "banned" anywhere. It got to number 4 in 1964. This is a clip from a netowrk TV show. It wasn't banned and YOU are a liar/

  • I am a leg man. Have been all my life. But this gal's piercing, hypnotic eyes are a big big turn on.

  • Please listen to her sing Malaika, the swahilli song. Its a great number. Gale u are amazing!!

  • I love this song. I needed to smile today and this always makes me smile.

  • First time I heard this song and saw her sing it was when she guested on Red Skelton's TV program...I thought wow! what a beautiful song and elegant lady and then went out the next day to buy her album. Thanks for posting!

  • very nice melody it does bring memories of childhood .Does anybody know if she still sings?

  • I just googled Gale and she retired from singing but she has a book out....

    That is cool.

  • it's kind of drippy . . . but also catchy. i would have to call it mostly lightweight, but i can see why it caught on as well.

  • hey im only 10 and i love this she is my favorite singer and get this i only like 60's and oldie music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i have the sesasonal 60's comes with 3 dics!! but i would have loved to be with you people in the 60's and love to hear all the oldie songs :) :) :)

  • Loverdog,I'm from the 1950's so I was just right for the 60's music and I'm an oldie, it was a time of great change and also sad times most music was so cool and people were beautiful until 1968 when drugs changed things thou I love the psycho. sound, but the love sound will always be in my memories.

  • @JJMFB1 You baby boomers were so lucky to grow up with great music. The music we have today is crap .

  • I remember looking out of our south window in the kitchen in Doolittle,MO.

After the rain in the summer I could smell the honeysuckle and this song was being played on KTTR 1490 AM Rolla Mo.

KTTR was the only radio station in Rolla in 1964. 1 year later KCLU AM-FM went on the air. They played this song as an oldie too.

  • Wow! Just amazing what a nice simple song can do for the memory. Thanks for posting this and Thank you Gale!

  • Thank you atpcfi, for your comments. I can relate to it fully. What a great song to stir up emotions with. Thanks for posting!

  • Another one of those memory makers from the summer of 1964.

  • How I loved this song! I'm same age as you John 48, and it was a great time to be a teen. Hate to say this, but I feel sorry for these young folks-they missed it.

  • Yes and I would like to live it all over again!

  • @John1948Five So would I. The 60's was the best part of my life, it was sure the best

  • @John1948Five I know what you mean. There were bad times, but the memories of the good times more that made up for it. The 60's were the best time for us babyboomers!

  • @John1948Five Well, all except the whole getting-drafted-and-sent-off-to-Nam thing...

  • @myshinywagon Yeah, you older kids had it pretty good, although they were perilous times, I was born at the tail end of the 60s.

  • Her phrasing on this song reminds me a little of Natalie Merchant...

  • @jimwalsh2001 I thought the same thing then I saw your comment...Her phrasing is very similar....

  • In 1964 I was in the service and me and my girl loved this song. As time went on she found someone else while I was away but this song has always had a special meaning in my heart...

  • What a simple, beautiful song! Truly a classic! Brings back sweet childhood memories...

  • NOW THIS IS MUSIC !!!

  • thanks a million for the video i remember the song when I was a child but now I know who sings it

  • WOW! What a rush of emotions came over me, when I came across this song. Long,long- ago, when I was 25, I fell in love with a very beautiful young women, who had a free spirit. For a year we laughed, loved, and enjoyed life together. And like the lyrics in the song she left me, for a career. I drifted away, and over time I lost touch with her. Now forty years later I can only wonder what life would have been like if we stayed together. I will always remember her.

  • atpcfi: Yes I think we all do it, remember the special ones. the ones that got away, for one reason or another, and years down the track, usually as you reach middle age you wonder "what if" ?

  • @atpcfi How very sad!

  • @atpcfi The internet is an amazing and almost miraculous resource. Why don't you try looking for her. If you find her you may be surprised. If you can't seem to take advantage of all the possibilities available in the internet, ask a young person for help. You don't have to reveal exactly why you need assistance. Go ahead...give it a shot. You and she shared something very important and though she chose a different path, she surely held onto special feelings for you through the years.

  • Folks this rocknroll doo wop historian who goes back to 1954 with Shaboom can tell you Gale Garnett singing this immortal We'll Sing in the Sunshine gave this beautiful song to the world. isnt it Its eleoquent beautiful pretty as a boy & girl can walk in woods or ona beach or in a park and reflect years later. GALE BLESS you. This song will endure for ETERNITY. Trust me i know. TOMK

  • I've always liked this song.. Miss Garnett is a very classy lady; Britney and Amy could take a lesson from her. She truly is a class act!

  • Maybe I'm just getting old but I wish women looked like that today.

  • If you remember this song when it first came out then yes, you are getting old...just as I am.

  • @nightwing1409 : Quite a few do look like that today. You just need to squint past the tatoos & piercings

  • @aprobstayahoo spot on man!

  • @nightwing1409 You're right. You're old. Kill that dress maker now.

  • @pillroller88 Yep, and some days I really feel it.

  • @nightwing1409 If only...women today dress like such tramps. This is a very classy lady--beautiful face, body, and absolutely GORGEOUS, FLAWLESS voice. Gale, we LOVE YOU!

  • .............writing essays, columns, and book reviews for various newspapers and magazines. She also wrote and performed two one-person theater pieces, Gale Garnett & Company and Life After Latex. She published her first novel, "Visible Amazement", in 1999. which was followed up with "Transient Dancing" in 2003, "Room Tone" in 2007, and "Savage Adoration", her latest release, in 2009. All in all an extremely attractive and talented lady.

  • Although Gale retired from the music business by the 1980s, she has also continued appearing in feature films (such as 2002's My Big Fat Greek Wedding) and on television shows, usually in supporting roles. In subsequent years, she also branched out into journalism,

  • Gale Garnett was born in Auckland, New Zealand. When Garnett was 11, her family moved to Canada, and she made her public singing debut in 1960, while at the same time pursuing an acting career making guest appearances on television shows. In the fall of 1964, Garnett scored a Top 10 pop hit with her original composition "We'll Sing in the Sunshine" (also #1 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary singles chart for seven weeks and a Top 50 country hit),

  • Can you imagine being lucky enough to have this beautiful woman singing in your ear every night?! I mean that so respectfully too. Gale is such an incredibly BEAUTIFUL woman with such an incredible look. Her eyes and face are just gorgeous. Her voice is absolutely FLAWLESS and the Good Lord absolutely wanted to hear beautiful music when He gave her the beautiful talent she has. I love her so much and could listen to her 24/7. The best voice ever!

    Thank you for the post!!

  • Gale Garnett is awesome!! She does have interesting and expressive eyes. I love all her songs.

  • The song was covered by Dean Martin on Reprise, also a great version ...

  • Gale Garnett had Interesting, expressive eyesI

think natalie merchant could probably do this song justice.

  • Very nice! I wish I could live 60's again
