This is awesome. I clearly remember when this was aired live in '89. My band used to play these two songs all the time & try to harmonize like Jon & Richie.
I saw an interview where both Jon and Richie thought they totally bombed at this performance. It wasn't until the next day that they found out that they did the best rated performance ever! This performance is what started the MTV Unplugged series.
It's either an Ovation or Adamas (Made by the same company). Probably Adamas. Referred to as 'roundbacks'. The back is plastic. Same kind Melissa Etheridge plays.
bad ass..i remember watchin this...100% live these two are prolly the best vocal duo from that era..and they are STILL doin it..pay attention all you musicians..here is one of the best lessons you'll get on HOW to do it
Found this on Youtube from a reference on Wikipedia (Bon Jovi), which cited this performance as the inspiration for MTV's 'Unplugged' shows, and for the unplugged movement in general. Whether true or not, this is a great performance. Thanks for posting it.
that's what i like about wikipedia. on a whim you look up someone like bon jovi for a tidbit of info and discover something better: like this video and the beginnings of the great unplugged series.
I'm glad to see that so many of you who did not grow up with Bon Jovi are excited about this video. I watched it live and will never forget the feeling I had at the time about knowing I was witnessing musical genius when I heard these gritty, acoustic versions of what would become "classic" Bon Jovi. Can't wait to see Bon Jovi at Jazz Fest 09!! I haven't seen them in nearly 20 years.
I am 36 and I was lucky because it had watched this video LIVE in 1989!!! The event took place a few weeks after the Music Piece Festival in Moscow...
Sweet! Richie needs to get in the spotlight more often, amazing voice - and best of luck to him on the road to sobriety :D

It was this performance in 1989 that paved the way for all the "MTV unplugged" & "Storytellers" shows. This is the original (acoustic version)
