  • i'd love to play this but i'm having some serious trouble getting used to the movement .. this is gonna take a few days =p

  • you are awesome

  • I'm gonna buy a guitar tomorrow and start my first lesson soon, I guess I learn those moves from the video.

But what are "Chords"? I don't know what does "Chords" mean, I don't know anything about guitars yet so can someone tell me what are they?

  • Before I played guitar I didn't know this stuff either, but chords are when several notes are put together. On the guitar, chords have special names like E, E7, Em. E is a chord that makes the sound of the note E. E7 is the same, but slightly jazzier. Em is E, but minor. To know the fingerings for different chords I would suggest buying a book or looking them up on the internet. A chord only made of two notes is called a double stop. I've been playing for 1 and 1/2 years. Good luck with yours!

  • a chord is more then one note stacked onto eachother...

for example...: the note E by itself is E the note G by itself is G

put them together and u have yourself a chord...well the start of one but yeh...

    get me?

  • No lol, and nevermind I'm gonna get guitar lessons, thank you for reply anyway..

I don't know what hes doing with his left hand -.-

  • hes just doing 3 chords... they are in the tab provided :)

    can you read tabs?

  • great lesson!!U sound australian!

    Thanks from the canary island.

    Keep up the work mate.

  • Some people just don't know what to do with their fingers...

  • woah cool. spanish speakers say k for que? nice.

  • Thank you for sharing!

  • could you say where i have to put my fingers of the left hand? (cords) thx

  • dm am e7 am

  • how do you keep your finger nail on your index finger from snagging the strings on the up stroke?

  • Slow down the strokes you are playing and get close to examine exactly what your fingernail is doing.

Keep the index finger nail short.

Experiment with the way you file your nail and playing angles.

Polish the underside of the nail.

    Sal

  • Thank you very much

  • I learn to play the Rumba thanks to you ^ ^ I do have a question about the Rumba tab you published. On the 9th measure you show to use your middle and index finger for the right hand and use open and a finger for the right. Now I wonder what the numbers 3 1 4 1 mean on the top bar? I'm sorry if this sounds like a basic question.

  • These are the left hand fingerings. 3 = ring finger, 1 = index and 4 = pinky. This is standard classical guitar notation practice to write the left hand fingerings either above the stave like I have, or besides the notes themselves in the stave.

    NOTE:

Actually you can use 4 where I have written 3. It's just that when I play it on the video I used the ring finger (3) in a moment of madness instead of the pinky (4) .... which is probably better.... so that's what I wrote i the music.

    Sal

  • Thank you very much for your reply, actually before I read your post I was doing the wrong technique so I'm glad you wrote the post the way you did ^^ Thanks again.

  • Cheers, this was nice xD I like your rythm playing xD

  • just went to your site and registered to get the tabs...and was then told that your site is in development!??!? and check later for tabs... :-( why promise tabs here if they are not available???

  • what chords are you using?

  • Dm Am E7 Am

  • Hi Sal,

first of all I want to say thank you, great video :). I'm interested to know why you use the thump and later the index finger for the strumming, why not all the time the Index? (Sorry if the question ist stupid, I play just for a year). I ask because if I try to use the thump it sounds quit different from the rest because I don't have a thump-nail (p,i,m I play with nails).Greetings from Austria and sorry for my bad english ;)

  • After one hour of practicing i can say: its easyier to knock on the guitar when you strum with the thumb, and i think with more tempo you get problems if you use the index all time

  • Thank you for your answer Haffelpaff, that's something I didn't think about but it seems very logical. You convinced me, I will practice it with the thump. Maybe I try to let my thumpnail grow. Greetings :)

  • A thumbnail is essential in this sort of playing. It doesn't have to be really long but it needs to be there.

    Sal

  • Awesome! Really great teacher, 5/5

  • Great teacher! Exellent playing! Wonderfull

I am only playing guitar for a few months now, and i can actually do it :D

    Thank you soo much!!

  • que bonito esta

  • i cant seem to get the hand slap in time with the rest of it :(

  • Thank you!!

  • Wow u really are amazing at not just playing but teaching! I only been practising for 20 mins and i got it slowly. A bit more practise and it will be up to the right tempo! XD Thankyou so much! After all the searching on here for a good teacher! x

  • great to see someone teaching there skills & not keeping what they know to themselves

  • It's difficult to slow down your fingers and try to explain something you do automatically- nice lesson!

  • Great lesson from a great teacher think's a lot

Now i think that i play rumba rithme in good way (:

  • omfg i want to have your babies

  • Thank you very much Sal.

  • Good tutorial but I find that thumb slightly disturbing

  • It disturbs me too when it misses notes.

  • Thanks for your really approachable and down to earth explanation. I prefer a teacher who makes an occasional honest mistake and who doesn't get all flustered about it - it shows their honesty and truth.

  • Great lesson. I kept up with you even though you tried to throw me off with that fifth count...haha just kidding. This really has helped out and I greatly aprreciate it. One love.

  • thank a lot u r greatttttttttttt!

    love from nederland

  • haha very funny but very good , thnx for this helpfull lesson !

  • Hi, I've been recently utilizing your website, exercises, and videos. All I can say is you are an amazing instructor and human being for really putting this wonderful knowledge out in a way that's adaptable to those COMPLETELY unfamiliar with this style (like me!). Thanks a bunch.

  • Great (and also funny *g*) lesson.

Now I have something new to practise. Thank you very much. :-)

  • Oh, thank you so much. I hope I did not offend you, I commented on both video's at different times. I had later found a chart of chords in my basement that I had forgotten about.

That being said, I hope I did not just confuse you. That was pretty vague.

Anyway, thank you very much. You are very skilled, and this is a beautiful piece.

    Wünderschön, even!

    aVn

  • No problem.

    Sal

  • I need tabs! Oh no!

I love this piece so much, but I don't know chords!

  • avnofhanover. You need tabs and I need a holiday. Your fairy Godmother is here to grant your wish.

  • man!

Thanks so much.! Love from Liverpool UK

  • awesome

  • I am a ukulele learner, and I have managed to use your lesson to play something similar on my soprano ukulele. Thank you so much for making this video.

    Shireen, London, England

  • what were the chords? Dm / Am & then 'something'7 ????

  • E7

    Sal

  • A very nice description of how to learn it!

    Keep up this good work!

Thanks a lot! Now it works, I've got the flow!

  • i think i got mixed up...is the wide opening for the symbol directs where to strum? like this ^ wide opening points down means down?

i'm sorry i'm self learning since there are only visual flamenco teachers here...they don't approve of note sheets here i have no idea why...i'm trying to learn them by myself

  • ^ wide means down. From bass to treble. It is the conventional way to write the down direction in sheet music. Rasgueado down strokes play from the lowest to the highest string. The highest string on the guitar is closest to the floor so (physically) we stroke DOWN. However, in music notation the low notes are at the bottom of the music stave and the higher notes are at the top. That's why the down stroke direction arrows are pointing up in music notation.

    Sal

  • ok that really made sense...thank you Mr.Sal :)

  • Mr.Sal, i'm confused...in ur video...the m finger goes down and thumb goes up...but in ur music sheet m goes up and thumb goes down??

it says m ^ and p the opposite symbol...did i get the symbols wrong? does ^ mean down?

  • are nylon strings?

  • yeah :)

  • it would be fantastic to stay closely and learn from you

  • I Cant play with my fingers at all ....

Its great to See some Good fingers Playing some good guitar

  • It's so much funner to play with the fingers. Pics are boring after you start playing with your fingers.

  • en que traste debo poner los dedos?

  • hey sal, initially i just practiced the right hand with no chords, then put the cords in, works well thanks

  • we don't see the case, can you make an other video with case please

  • I don't understand what you mean by case.

    Please explain.

    Sal

  • maybe they mean the chords

  • I've never heard case before but im assuming he wants to see what your other hand is doing at the same time. At least thats the only other thing i can imagine he wants to see

  • Sal you are great. I took me about an hour to get the rythym down and my fingers hurt like hell but I got. You are the man!

  • Hello My name is Cesar

    I live in Mexico

Can anyone tell me wht are th chords?

    D minor? then what?

  • Dm,Am,Am7,Am

  • Hehe even a master can get confused sometimes. Sal tu sei un vero maestro e un mito!! Grazie Mille e VIVA ITALIA!!

  • the counting is 1 2 and 3 and 4 and. Bass 2 and Slap and 4 and Bass... It surprises me that YOU were the one who prepared the sheet music and confused with the counting.

Awesome playing though. I'll be learning this piece. Thanks.

  • The main thing is you got something out of this. I'm happy about that.

    Sal

  • one of the musicians who don't (can't) count.

  • wow.you play amazing..hope i can learn to play just even close to yours... thanks for sharing...

  • aww, its too hard, show me somtin easier to play,

  • You're amazing! It would be very much appreciated if you could perhaps make a short video on what the left hand does, if not that's okay. Another thing is, do you have any list of flamenco guitarists that beginners could study? If so, would you PM them to me if you have the time?

  • Hi newb question here

You know how the first note is a P, then the second stroke is your M, is it ok if i just go

P hit then a P stroke upwards followed by an M down?

  • wait nvm i just checked your tab pdf you dont really stress any one way

    thanks!

  • The sheet music clearly shows all the right hand indications. Fingers used and direction of each stroke etc. This video also clearly shows exactly how I play it. I don't understand how you can be getting confused. If you are asking can you vary the strokes in some way, that is entirely up to you if you choose to do things differently.

  • well at the end you said any RH fingering is fine

that was what i meant :D

  • The note at the end of the sheet music refers only to the melody notes in measures 20 & 21, not the whole piece. It was also not referring to the strumming strokes, just the i and m fingers. I was excusing myself for doubling up on the i finger, which is something I don't normally do.

You can do whatever you want with this piece and the fingering. I have shown you what I do, but once you change things you are on your own. So your question, "Is it OK" is something you need to answer yourself.

  • Thanks Sal this is what i was looking for..

  • thanks, thisreally helped!

  • RUBENSICKO!!!!Dm Am E Am

  • Can you put a video of the other hand? please thankyou

  • Thank you Sal for taking the time and sharing your music. I use google earth to see your hometown it is beautiful. best wishes

  • thank you very much

    it was very helpful

  • gday sal, not bad mate, very impressive. I learned the guitar about 10 years ago, but only played for the first 6 or so, and am keen to pick it back up. How do I "subscribe" to these lessons? Cheers, Doug.

  • hey man, i hope you were able to subscribe, if not...

    click on his name,

it takes you to his page,

then click subscribe (on the left)

    all done.

  • man u are awesome!!! i am going to subscribe!!! wuld u recomend me growing out the finger nails on my right hand/????

  • Yes but not too long. I can't see how you can do this without right hand nails. You will know when they are too long when you start hooking on the strings.

    Sal

  • Sal, what chords are you using for this lesson ?

  • Please keep those lessons coming. Thank you!

  • thanks, I used to play spanish not very well though. But I want to learn it now.

Anyway I can play this now :) But it sounds like a rap beat.

  • Let me hear it

  • This video is great, thanx!

  • nice teacher!!! excellent gracias

  • I love how you dissect things that would seem impossible and make them seem achievable (with practice, of course =))

I can't wait to play flamenco guitar!

  • Great lesson indeed, you are een great help for guitar players. Thanks for this

  • sorry for posting for the same reason as the lasto comments but the chords are:

  • Bardzo dobra lekcja:)

    Dziękuję bardzo:)

Pozdrawiam i namawiam do tworzenia następnych!

  • I am greatful for this lesson, but you seen to play that you don´t intend to play when you speed it up a little. You noticed your self, you can´t help playing that second part when you are not supposed to according to your self??. Make it right from the beginning, it´s much easier for a beginner to understand then. Thanks /S

  • Great lesson dear sir! :-)

  • yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i wish i could do thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat
