@br17br17 - I first had to admit that the life I was living was not bringing me happiness, or any spiritual peace. Next, I had to pray for the strength to walk away from the manner I was living. I get a daily reprieve, and daily have to renew my pledge to live a better life. Daily, I ask for God's help to be able to do this.
I confess I've never liked Ronstadt's voice, or her treatment of the songs she's sung. The arrangements, fashioned as they were in California-style 70s-pop, didn't help matters, either.
But this song, performed by L. Ronstadt, and arranged as it was, is one of the most lovely works I've encountered. I enjoy it more than Bonoff's original, something at the time I truly was loathe to admit. Somehow, this production with Ronstadt singing is so, so magical.
When I was a younger man I never realized how special this song is. Now that I'm 57, I can cry easily listening to it. Talented writing and signing is the key. Thanks girls.........Great backup vocals too
I have been looking for this song since I was a teenager. I can still feel the emotions I was feeling when I use to listen to this haunting song. Karla Bonoff on this song could sit next to Carole King. Awesome!!!! Thanks for the memories.
Haunting and so tender.....beautiful melody and trigggers so many memories. I just heard it in sirius and could not wait to come on line and find it. Thanks for posting it on You tube.
I have this on CD, but now it's here for everyone - and rightfully so - on YouTube. A zillion thank you's for propping the definitive version of this stunning Karla Bonoff classic.
What's up with this not being included in her 21 greatest hits package for this decade??
awesome tune! Ran across this on my vinyl collection a few months ago & the almost erie piano as well as the hypnotic lyrics have brought back some of those, what was i doing the last time i heard that song ?
Romantic sounding song, yet an element of stark realism, I always thought it was beautiful, but when I sung this for one of my friends she said stop, maybe because of my voice, but she thoutht the lyrics were too harsh. I love it. "You just can't ask for more..."
Best Linda song ~ ever...

I woke up one morning and realized I had lived this life for far too long, and hadn't been willing to admit it. It was a painful wake up call.

This is Karla Bonoff's most powerful song, and Ronstadt's version is by far the best --

This is a great song. I know Bonoff's written many others, but this one is as good as it gets. I hope she's proud of it, as she should be --
