your one of the best rudimental- clean drummers ive witnessed. and you speed it up to who knows what bpm, crazy man. im meeting my new drum teacher tuesday, if i dont like him im signing up!!
Hey Mike! my man! i have always wondered who the drummer was for the band Simon says! my band and i used to do alot of covers from your album Jumpstart man back in 2002! You are so awesome man! and by the way, thanks for all these lessons man. since i started watching your videos, i improved dramatically! :) anyway, Cheers man!
You must have practiced really hard to get those paradiddle diddles so tight, I am just a starting drummer and its really inspiring to see a professional such ah yourself play.
thanks for the tips... thats one less rudiment I need to know in order to be a great drummer, hey, by the way, your real fast at those paradiddle-diddles!!
When doing double strokes at high speeds, at some point I have to stop using wrist/finger technique and rely on the bounce entirely. I still have control, but I'm just using my wrist/fingers for the downstroke. Which means I find it next to impossible to accent the second stroke of a double when playing at high speeds. I guess my question is how fast can one play double strokes without relying solely on the bounce for the second stroke?
no, "para-para-diddle" which i think you mean is R L R L RR, L R L R LL, is called a double paradiddle. para diddle diddle is 2 singles then 2 doubles, double paradiddle is 4 singles then 1 double.
hey, ive been watching ur vids and bookmarking it, and ive been drumming for 3 years or so, and got my first drumset (actually electric drum set dtexplorer) a year ago. i play by ear, but i want to know whats better playing by ear or by using notes? thankz alot :)
man, i hate to dredge up this old debate, but isn't the paradiddle diddle supposed to alternate hands like the normal paradiddle pattern does? you know: RLRRLL LRLLRR RLRRLL LRLLRR, etc.. Mike's only doing the RLRRLL.. is that right? i'm only trying to gain some perspective on this one..
It's all correct actually.. RLLRLRR and RLRRLRLL is the same just starting at a different point. And he isn't saying it's a para-diddle, but a paradiddle-diddle, notice the second diddle and therefor the last 2 strokes..
the first two you said are both single para diddles they just took out the first one or two beats :] the second one you said it s para diddle diddle! hope that helped
you have different types of paradiddles, this video shows paradiddlediddles, you have paraparaiddles, inward outward and inverted paradiddles and so on. The basic use of paradiddles is to make it easier to have an accent, thats why in each type of paradiddle you have a double, it gives you time to raise the other hand to make an accent, your standard paradiddle is RLRR/LRLL. This gives you a natural accent on the beat para=RL/LR, diddle RR/LL
My teacher told me that rrllrrlrlllrrrrrrrrrrllllllllllllllrrrrrlrlrlrlrlrlrrrrrrrrrrrrrrllllllllllllllrrrrrrrrrrllllllrrrrllllllr was a paradiddle. No wonder I was having trouble.
dam, my drum teacher said RLRRLL is a paradiddle. and he said paradiddle-diddle is just a RLRRLRLL only that its double time. wonder who is right? LOL.
I think I would have to say it's time to stop paying that guy and sign up for my "LIVE" online drum lessons so I can fix whatever else he messed up, lol.
Hey Mike!!!... I am currently subscribed to you and just had a quick question!!! What size sticks to you use? They look smaller than 5b which is what I have been told is a solid size to use.
Just got this down after about three tries; it sounds great on a right stroke snare, left right stroke snare, right stroke high tom, right stroke mid tom, left stroke hi-hat, left stroke hi-hat, crash...
The difference between Mike and the other yahoos on here is that he knows how to play AND teach. Every single video is educational and interesting. Even the windmill video Mike!
I have been playing for a long time. I even studied with Gregg Bissonette, here in Warren, Michigan. I really like the way this guy teaches. He always throws something in there that makes me go...hmmmm? I like this guy
the good thing about his lessons is that he shows you how to start of doing something slowly and then at the end gives the big picture of how you can use it...that really motivates you
at first i thought his speed was ungodly, and it is, but after practicing that rudiment for a solid 5 hours with a metro you should be able to get comparable speed. i just use a metro and then slowly increase the speed once im consistent at a certain bpm.
i started watchin mikes u-tube lessons after i drummed for more than 5 years.... n its been around a year i think, since i started watchin all ur lessons. i can honestly say i learnt more within the last 1 year than the past 5 years i played drums.. thnx alot man.. we owe u

paraparadiddle = RLRLRR / LRLRLL

nahhh.. "para" is alternate sticking(RL or LR), while "diddle" is a double stick(RR or LL).. para(RL)diddle(RR)diddle(LL)..
a "para-para-diddle" would be RLRLRR which would be a "double paradiddle"
