another gas which should be really toxic too is leading chlorine gas through sodium bicarbonate solution (strong im sure it is) the gas goes bang in contact with rubber and other organic stuff and even DUST particles! but not metal.. should go off really loudly.. and really toxic too.. dichlorinemonoxide Cl2O it is.. used for making hypochlorites..

Not doin it right mate.Nail polish remover good if 100 pure acetone. Anyway..Collect scrapings and put in shot glass.Top up with acetone and give a good stir.Decant acetone and pour red phos in2 coffee filter.When dry, place phos in2 pot of boiling water for 5 mins,filter then dry.Now your red phos be alot more pure!! Boiling water removes the binding agents,acetone doesn't..

Its about 70%. The biggest problem is trying to get the Antimony sulfide out of the mix. It doesnt affect the phosphorus but its still there. Short of a centrifuge I cant think of any way to get it out.

I wouldn't call that pure. It's adulterated with a significant amount of antimony and glass powder. Also, I've never had all that difficult of a time extinguishing a red phosphorus fire. Whit phosphorus on the other hand, well that is a different story. White phosphorus is just 'evil.' That is just too much work to gether a tiny sample like that. Easier method: Cut the striker pads off of the tiny matchbooks, soak them in methanol, shake to loosen the RP, filter, soak the RP in acetone to remove any gum, filter, rinse, dry. Higher yield, purer RP.

the best way is to use the matchbook matches, cut the strips off, soak them in acetone, then pour the biggest part of the acetone off then use a pyrex ddish and then cook the resxt off in the microwave, it's bout 90% trust me it'll do the job, u can add the magnesium later to fire the red back up if its old, other people use it for other reasons to

the way i did it was i used a glass jar, about a gallon jar, i cut the strips from the book matches, pour enuff (acetone or u can use 99% percent alcohol also) to just cover the strips, then i cover the glass jar with a baggie then tighten the lid down on it, and shake the hell out of it, u will see the red start to come off,take the paper out wear gloves, pour off the most part of the liquid, put it in the pyrex in the microwave watch it close when it starts to boil stop it, let it cool, take

the matches there self r not pure red phosphorus, its the striker is what u want, thats why u use the pyrex , u dont want to filter thios thru coffee filters or a strainer ur gonna lose ur rp that way, the best place to get those matches is like at a fireworks stand they sell them by the cases real cheap, i think i got a case for like 50.00, and u can get llike 30 grams of red of a case
