  • you could get a better control if you made a variable inductor

  • You are getting some nice arcs there.

What are you using as your power supply (not driver)?

  • @Alex1M6 This was just an old 13.8V 5A power supply.

  • great setup. i think you would get a bigger ark by customizing your inductor. less inductance more current more inductance higher voltage

  • What is the buzzing sound in the background at 2:07?Is it the transformer power supply?

  • hi would this 1N4937 diode from maplins work as the fast diode. 600v @ 30A surge

  • @Pyromadness It may well do, its listed as a 'fast' rectifier. The UF4007 is an 'ultra fast' rectifier.

It will probably work but not as well. The frequencies involved in flybacks is quite fast for any standard rectifier diode.

    Good luck!

  • @sparkie21 hi, this comment was a really long time ago but i feel i should say something. the 1n4937 has a max reverse recovery of 200 ns, meaning, in theory you could run frequencies up to 5 MHz through them. and with your average flyback being ran at around 100-200 KHz those diodes will be way more than enough :) just saying :p

  • can you give me pictures from difrent angle pls i want to build it!!!!!! please

  • :D nice work!

  • Better than what I got. I make one with nothin but components scavenged from an old monitor. Flyback Transformer, 220ohm and 330ohm resistors, and a IRF640 MOSFET. Using a 13volt 4.5 amp PSU and a hell of a heatsink on the MOSFET. I could only get a small arc. But accomplished more than i thought I would without buying any components. Fried one of the resistors after 10 minutes of continuous operation though. Were only 1/4 WATT resistors by the looks.

  • yeah i got one of those IRF640 mosfets from a tv also..mine blew up on me tho!!! giant hole is in the middle of it now, lol. scrounging for parts is great tho isn't it! sometimes you can find some great stuff! i found mosfet, i'm not sure where, maybe a tv, and it is rated for 50A continuous current!!

  • @codex653 when i used these Mosfets they work pretty good... at 12V with good heatsink

  • where did you get the IRFP250s?

  • Farnell

  • @morganhv

    digikey.com

  • you should have very thick 2 inch long arcs at 14 volts. 2 causes are 1 your power supply is not supplying enough current, 2 your toroidal core is limiting too much current due to the over winding of wire

  • Where did you manage to find 2W 470ohm resistors?

  • Hi. I got them from farnell. Go to their site, and search 933-8250

I still have some left, if youre in the UK I can post them.

    Cheers, John.

  • ebay

  • how did you find the inductance of the toroid coil for the curcuit

  • Hi. I put on 83 turns. Just about as much as I could get around the torroid. That was quite hard work I remember ;)

  • your only supposed to wind 20-30 for best results, but the circuit has a lot of room for variables. try 20-30 ofof about 20-24 gauge wire

  • I believe he is talking about the inductor in the ZVS circuit, not the primary on the flyback.

  • yes

  • i guess it is good to use a lot of windings at hv input i pushed 54 volts in and i got like 4 inch arcs :)

  • Well im from Chile in America. Im not from UK but thanks for help me ;) im ant make a ZVS circuit with IRF540 and FR102 but i have FR103's plastic fast diode.

  • Can I use a IRF540 MOSFETS 100V 22AMPS? ANSWER ME PLEASE!

  • Hi! For the diode, I used UF4007 as they are fast recovery. The 1N4004 may work, but perhaps not as good. I have some UF4007's if youre in the UK let me know. As for the mosfet's, im not sure, give them a try!

  • yes mate you can i just made one using 2x irf540's and it works brilliantly!

  • Hi again again again!! now i want use a different diode. my diode is a 1N4004 400V+ 1AMP, or the other is a HER306 High Efficiency Diode 50 to 1000V. which i can use for make and ran my ZVS???

  • hi can any one let me know wear to get 240ohms 5 Wat resistor and 27ohms 1 Wat resistor

  • You don't need any of those.

Click on my blue id and watch. My video show you how to do it.

  • please can you tell how do you identify the feedback, primary coil and secondary base pins on a 15 pin flyback? please reply

  • you wind the primaries and feedback windings yourself over the exposed part of the ferrite core

  • tanks

  • yes you have the schematic of your flyback?

  • I have added the info to the 'About this video' section on the right >>>

  • hi again..I have these transistors:

-1 BD646 PNP SILICON POWER DARLINGTONS

    -2 IRF830 N - CHANNEL 500V - 1.35ohm - 4.5A - TO-220 PowerMESH] MOSFET

    -2 RFP50N06 - 50A, 60V, 0.022 Ohm, N-Channel Power MOSFET

which i can use? answer me plis?!

  • erh. None. IRF830N might work but has high on-resistance and IRFP50N has a small breakdown voltage tolerance

  • you have the schematic of your flyback?plis?

  • I like high voltage!

  • can you help me with my circuit by offering some advise please. i have built the same exsact circuit but im receiving not voltage from the circuits primary output i checked on the scope. could you narrow down my problem please i think its my mosfets but im not totaly sure thank you for any help/advise

  • Hi. Is it oscillating? Is the flyback any good?

  • yer

but im not sure about the IRFP250 I dont have access to it unfortunately which mosfet would work similar to the IRFP250 out of these: IRF520 TMOS,IRFP450 HEXFET, PHP6N60E MOSFET,SSP60N06 MOSFET ,MTP3055E TMOS

  • Oh yeah, the red vapor light emission of burning insulator. Nice work!
