What the cat here is doing, is called "flehming". Other animals can do that too. It's pretty common. They use to do this, when they are hunting or sometimes when they are playing too.

uhh predator makes noise when hunting or when he has spotted pray, if ur cat can roar i would stab that thing as soon as possible (lol)

My cat used to do that as well, and i would move my jaw in a similar fashion and she would do it back at me. was cool. but it is supposed to be some sort of hunting thing. unsure exactly. i am sorry to hear of your cat =-[

I can explain this. When a cat sees something that it want´s to hunt down but can´t do it, for example a bird which it see outside the house. Then the cat make this noise, it´s a sign of stress because it want to hunt and kill but can´t. Cats are pradators afterall
