Don't be so stupid Jarrus!!!! Course the 4.2 would still do that. Any performance car / bike can produce overrun and pop like that. 0.3 litre don't make it suddenly not do it! My mates old vauxhall vx220 would even do it-all the time! So come on man don't say such ridiculous things. Just makes u look like a right Div. "they designed it that way" haha. Pleaaaaaase!
@leonmatthew7 The popping and banging is nothing to do with engine size, as you say you can get anything to pop and bang if you want, it was the engine mapping. As standard the 4.2 didn't pop and bang (as much) but the 4.5 had a different engine mapping because TVR decided customers would like the popping and banging on overun. They both sound great though.
Cars like this make me HATE the fact that I live in the U.S. Hmm...can I exploit a kit car loophole? TVR is probably my favorite company of all time. Too bad they're hideously unreliable, but I see that as a direct trade-off for how incredible they are.
@VooDooXII Theyre no more unreliable than a Jag of the period! You just have to treat the car properly, garage/service it etc and it will easily be a very good car! I don't know why TVR's always get slagged off for being unreliable!! All the TVR's my Dad has owned have all worked with no problems! So I put it down to the owners not looking after their TVR's! As for Ferrari and Lamborghini well they're not exactly reliable either! Just look at the amount that externally combust!! LOL!
Actually I guess that's somewhat refreshing to know. I just came off of an Alfa Romeo 164 so I'm a bit familiar with unreliable cars! There's something very special about TVR. They're everything I like in an automobile.
@TheV8mann Not sure if u know this, but its basically two 4 cylinder engines on one crank, which is called a flat plane crank. Its basically identical to a four cylinder crank. Flat crank V8's pistons fire off in the same sequence as four cylinder pistons, so givin that it uses the same crankshaft & piston firing order as the four cylinder engine, thats what gives it that sound, same as Ferrari, & Lotus Esprit just to name a couple. In my opinion, these are the best V8 engines. :D
That is definitely a 4.2. And its not decatted either. Sounds like a totally standard exhaust setup. He should at least decat it, and let the engine sound the way it SHOULD.
I heard that reverse gear go crunch when parking it. ;) Shame on you, be patient with a gearbox. Aside from that, thanks for the virtual ride. It's an exciting car no doubt, it sounds nice. but it's too quiet. Go steal an ehaust system from a wedge. :D
sounds like either 4.2 or 4.5. a friend of mine has a 4.2 and it has a harder edge to it than the smoother inline-6. it doesn't have the classic 'v8' sound because it has a flat-plane crank rather than cross-plane crank.
this sounds like a flat plane v8. anyone knows?

@CARBON996 it's definately the 4.5, the 4.2 does pop and spit on the overrun like the 4.2 does

if im not mistaken, the engine is a W figuration, but im not sure if it was two V6's or two V8's
chupamukabrah 2 years ago
It's a TVR designed V8, the Cerbera Speed 12 had a V12 engine formed by sticking two of the TVR Speed 6 (Inline 6) engines together.

really bad driver...

it's not a race, more like "usual" town driving.
But nothing is really usual when you drive a TVR

Is that a 6 cylinder? it sounds like one.

@tvorchay it's the 4.5, only the 4.5 pops and bangs on the over run,
the engineers designed it that way....

@jarrus464 no its a 4.2 to old for 4.5 and i don`t think you would put 4.2 wheels on your 4.5!
