great job! jumping drafts is harder than it looks. And they can really throw their weight around when they dont want to. I jumped this draft buddy and he refused it about 5 times. I guess thats what I get for riding a school horse
that rider looks so tiny on her ! but she's a lovely mover. we used to have a belgian/qh and she refused to jump, she'd just crash into the whole thing !
hi i just recently bought a quarter horse gelding. He is very muscular and a big build. Your horse is a (beautiful) lol big build as well. I love jumping and i was wondering if my horse got into shape could I jump him? if so how high? because your horse is pretty big and hes doing great. =) awesome video please reply
he is absolutely fabulous! Jumps a bit long like my mare but Id kill to have her under saddle like that. I guess I better start now, then maybe in 4 years.. :P Great horse!
well done, hahaha i am suitably impressed :P, i have a belgainXpercheron mare who would rather saunter up to the jumps and step over them than actually canter (oh my god not work, hehehe) and JUMP the fences, hehehehe, she will with some encouragement though, but your boy just seems to float around the course, he's very light on his feet for a draft...any chance you wanna give him to me??? hahaha
His canter is to die for i've not seen one so smooth and you go over those jumps so well, he is a big horse gorgeous too XD. He looks like he'd do anything youd ask of him.
wee go draftehs! :) I once owned a belgian mare, trained to do the exact same thing (eventing mainly though) and she was fun, great job with this mare! glad im not the only one out there who believes in training drafts to jump :)
Hehe he looks really big for you but you handle him really well! His gaits look so smooth. Are they really or do they just look like that? You sit very well to his canter! Looks like such a lovely place to ride. =)
you 2 r reli good 2gether.. your horse is in lovely condition and is obviously suited for the work she is dng...your position is reli good aswell.. i would jst like to add that rather than trotting and catering in a huge loop that u do smaller circles or sepantines or shallow loops or something jst to do something different but still reli well ridden :)
You should do more homework before making such generalized comments...many people have drafts and draft crosses for sport, which are quite able to jump. Maybe not grand prix..but I have researched the issue..and found many drafts and crosses suitable for the job. I have a Perch/TB cross (more drafty) and I heard comments about how he would not make a good H/J,guess what-he is doing wonderfully. Although I'm not advanced enough to do any more than 18", my trainers jump him 2'3" during schooling.
I think your horse looks wonderful. It's fluid in it's movement and seems happy and relaxed, as long as bigger horses are taken care of (legs, feet, backs) they are more than well suited. Drafty horses are built for work!
Don't you find the stereotype that heavier horses can't move nicely or jump highly irritating?! She is beautiful, and looks like she's really enjoying her work! Well done on the canter too - It's more difficult than it looks to do that! x
Lovely mare. Obviously you've put a lot of time and effort into her, and you make a great team. She drives well from her hindquarters which compensates a bit for her lack of shoulder/reach, and lightens her forehand. This is a great video to show how perseverence and athleticism are very important to support conformation in sport horses.
I watched the streched one first and thought he was really fast and taking off early, but I watched this one and it was just cuz of the strech in the video :p awesome horse, great riding! Drafts are tough, I wouldn't wanna event one :p
Nice mare! I wasn't aware that Belgians could jump that nicely...that is, until I see her jumping better than my 16.3hh Thoroughbred! Geez, and I thought MY horse was big...!
Wow great job you guys! its not easy controling a belgium. And dilidaly, any horse (okay maybe not ANY but u get my point) can jump if they want to, yes theyer bred for heavy work, but so are clydesdales and people have trained them to jump. Like PlayfulTippy said, if he didnt want to jump he wouldn't!! great job PlayfulTippy your horse looks amazing!
Actually they make very talented jumper... the modern belgians have been bred to be a little more agile and are great jumpers... I trained one to jump once and he was amazing... and had so so much talent.
Wow look at that horses expression not its body. He looks excited at times. I mean does it look like this is a big huge pain and he is hating it. I mean no he couldn't jump a 6ft but thats not what is being asked of him. That and he has a lot better manners than some horses I have seen on here. He is a beauty!
She absolutely loved to jump! And she was damn good at it too. We never forced her to do it. If she didnt want to do it, she wouldn't. Its not easy to force a belgian to do what they don't want to. And we didnt jump her alot either. Maybe once a week. Trust me, she has had a wonderful life.
Amen, the belgian I was training flipped out when all the other horses left and we were still in the barn... he ran me over and I just couldn't do much! Lol, I finally got him to a window where he could see the horses and he calmed down... lol!
WOW! That is an amazing deal! I wish I could-- She is a really flashy mover. I've always been a Belgian fan. You make it look easy to control all of that! :)
WOW!! that's all i can say

Good job riding too! I mean, I know that they're 'gentle giants' but they're still big and have got to be a handful sometimes!
