Granted, my buddy's appraisal of the JMSDF is "Junior Varsity at best". They have the equipment but not the training to handle "multi-faceted, real-time scenarios" in operations with more than 2 ships.

He also made another point: "like that video clip" the "JMSDF [tend] to choreograph their DTEs and training regimens to absolute predictability, which [to the US Military] defeats the purpose of training for a fluid-chaotic environment where you have to think on your feet".

I sent this to a buddy in the US Navy.

That said, he's been stationed in Sasebo Japan and also told me that as dopey as this commercial looked, it's actually amenable to Japanese sensibilities. Strange as it sounds to Americans like me, their cultural context looks favorably on this kind commercial (which is why it was made this way).

Maybe they are seriously doing this because many Japanese became thinking any kind of military activities are bad thing after Pacific War.

But I think already ended the postwar era so MOD should produce a battleship or aircraft carriers like a Yamato or Kitty Hawk again.

By doing it, I think JMSDF will be able to more easyly get young ppl.

But I know it's impossible because need of those ships might become an diplomatic issue between neighbors and Japan.
