First off my friend Jonathan Makonnen said to me that he was clipped by one of the DB's in front of the ref and it wasn't called. Anyways Mack Brown called his coaching buddies and they voted Cal behind Texas.
@djaxnumba1 man fuck texas im a usc fan i dnt even really like cal but the bcs really fucked cal over in my opinion. bitch brown give up some ass and head to get texas in the rose bowl that year against michigan
USC lead the entire game. Cal moved the ball all day but had trouble but when it came to getting in the end zone, well, things got really hard for Cal. Again they never lead! I was in my normal spot, section 11 HERD!!! We were so loud Rogers could not hear a thing! That goal line stand was one of the loudest moments I have ever heard at the Coli. I was at the ND game too and that was so loud I will never forget it.
I was there too. I was near a guy who said it was the 2nd loudest he had ever heard it in the Coliseum, only behind the famous 1974 USC/Notre Dame game. I heard after the game that Leinart got his bell rung in the first half which was one reason SC's offense looked so bad. Cal also had a very good defense that year.
i completely agree with you, and that cal was probably the 2nd best team in the nation, only losing to usc by 6 on the road, but i really do think that the texas tech win was a fluke.
but cal would have destroyed oklahoma just as bad as usc did. but that's how it is, the pac-10 is the most underrated conference in the country. i mean that year, there were crappy teams like pittsburgh who got destroyed by utah and stuff, just horrible stytem we have here
Cal was missing 8 of the 22 starters, for the Holiday Bowl. If Cal stayed healthy, they were the second best team. Rodgers was throwing to Red Shirt Freshman in the bowl game, with a depleated offensive line.
@lighterhead yeah cause bowl games really reflect how good a team is. without a doubt washington was better than nebraska this year... or would you like another one of the hundreds of examples i could give you?
Because Mack Brown was a slimy fucking pimp, I remember watching the BCS announcements in December and they had Mack Brown in the studio with a huge grin. Never ever liked the Longhorns ever since.
Pete's a hell of a coach He has really revived that university football team because I can remember when paul hackett was the coach and that was murder.
Hey, no doubt. Pete's brought them back from a bad season to National Powerhouses for six consecutive years. If I'm right, I think he's never finished in the rankings no lower than 20th in the Polls.
2001, they finished unranked...losing to utah in the LV bowl...SC fan here, just letting ya know...i dont think we will be lower than 15TH anytime soon
hey orangekush, i remember this game this was the day we beat UT 12-0, those damn CAL bears blew everything, if they had pulled it off we would have had to play Auburn instead of you guys who were on fire that night.
oh shut up, cal would have raped you too, USC just showed how much better they were than you. they raped you guys, ok couldn't stop them at all. USC was dominant that year. auburn would've beaten you guys too
The good ole days! FIGHT ON!!!

USC has great fans, but the stadium lets too much noise out like Michigan & Texas. Stadium will never be SEC loud.

usc only scores 23 on them, but texas tech shredded them with cumbie throwing for over 500 yards.
natedagr808 3 years ago
cal should of been in the rose bowl that year.! not no gay holiday bowl which no pac 10 team cares about
DARickster777 2 years ago
ya they should have considering they only lost by 6 points to one team all year.
natedagr808 2 years ago
Yeah...it's not like Cal's starting quarterback was injured against Tech or anything. Oh, wait.

Cal outgained USC 424-205 and still somehow lost this one. That's incredible.

Special teams made all the difference. Botched punt, missed fg's that should have been gimmies, etc
nomenclature123 3 years ago
USC's average starting field position was in Cal territory that game.
guitarjosh 3 years ago
This was the best win of that season. Cal probably outplayed SC

nikeg 4 years ago 3
I disagree that Cal outplayed us.
Bend but don't break defense, baby.
Sure we missed some opportunities that turned to FG's instead of TD's but the last drive pretty much summed up the game.

You know Lyman tore his ACL on that play, which basically ended his football career.

biggest BCS shit ever. How the hell did Cal not get in?

Because Mack Brown is a DICK and he got all his little Big XII buddies to vote for his team in the coaches poll.

oh really, i was unaware of that. well, yeah you're right, if they were healthy, they were the 2nd best team, if not exactly at the same level as usc
viperdawg41192 3 years ago
cal should have gone to a bcs game. they were about that so they layed an egg in their bowl game
USCTrojansOwn 3 years ago
@KnightsHuSayNee yeah no shit, only loss was to USC by 6 points and we outgained them like 2 to 1 on this game...and they don't get a BCS game

@KnightsHuSayNee They didn't deserve it...They made it to what, the holiday bowl? And lost.. So clearly, they didn't deserve a rose bowl.
