for example

so you would do: 5=2(-6)+b

FINAL ANSWER: y=2x+17

@TwilightGurll31 The goal is to get "y" on the left side of the equation, by itself. To do that, you have to subtract the "x" value hanging on to it from both sides - therefore, 2x+3y=6 becomes 3y=-2y+6 when you subtract the "2y". If you're wondering why the "2y" is a negative, it's because we had to subtract, and subtracting "2y" is the same as making it a negative. The "6" is the y-intercept (where the line crosses the y-axis) so it always stays on the right side at the end of the equation. (:

@msstargirl10000 -subtract five from itself and eight. now you have y =3, and thats the answer. if it was 2y+5=8 for example, you would so the same thing, only after you get 2y=3, you would divide 2 on both sides and get an improper fraction as your answer, 3/2 :)
