No issue of any great importance can ever be settled by chapter & verse. God has placed within us all a conscience & the law of love. It was this that finally got people to see that slavery & discrimination against certain races & women was wrong. It will be this same law that will change people's attitudes towards gays & lesbians. The Levitical Laws in the OT are not for today. If we are going to use them to condemn homosexuality, we will have to stop eating pork and shellfish, worship on Saturday, not wear clothes of mixed fibres and the list goes on. Actually Jesus here was talking about divorce, not homosexuality. Just because he referred to the more common hetrosexual marriage doesn't necessarily mean that gay marriage is necessarily wrong.
You didn't have to say it was a disease. By your own words you implied that it was by suggesting that Jesus cured it. Remember the Bible was not written in English.I have seen things differently because I have got back to what things meant in the original languages and also tried to learn what the original writers were talking about. We cannot make the Bible say now what it was never meant to say then. The original authors could only write about what they understood. They couldn't write about consensual homosexuality because it was unknown to them.

A Dutch Christian who also speaks German went through many Dutch & German Translations old and new and even though there is a word for homosexual in both languages, not one Bible version contained the word. Watching this video makes me feel ashamed to be an Oklahoman. I hope that everyone who views this video realizes that not all Oklahomans are as ignorant as Representative Kern. The most disturbing fact is that she keeps changing her reasons and justifications for what she has said. What ever happened to the Establishment Clause or separation of Church and Government? I am very confused as to why her "agenda" seems to be fueled so strongly by her religious beliefs.

So many people here are so willing to start spouting the angry, vindictive Old Testament God when going after someone or something they don't like. But when THEY or their family or friends get caught doing something wrong, the script flips and they want to go all go New Testament, with the nice, forgiving Jesus. Whatever.
Really? So you believe the Bible is completely infallible? What about all the contradictions within it? For example in Gen. 7:12, it says that during the flood, it rained for 40 days. However, in the same chapter, in verse 24, it says that it rained for 150 days. So, if the Bible is infallible, then that's more than a typo, wouldn't you agree?
Furthermore, the point is not whether or not the Bible is valid, but that we have separation of church and state and she should not be letting her
religious views get in the way of her duty as a Representative. When you become a representative, you have to represent EVERYONE, and that includes gay people, Muslims, Atheists, Satanists, Pagans, Hindus, Christians, and everyone else.

No issue of any great importance can ever be settled by chapter & verse. God has placed within us all a conscience & the law of love. It was this that finally got people to see that slavery & discrimination against certain races & women was wrong. It will be this same law that will change people's attitudes towards gays & lesbians. If 2 consenting adults engage in a gay relationship, are happy in it and nobody is being hurt, I am convinced by the law of love & conscience that God approves.

The way I see it, anyone who says homosexuality is a choice, is gay/bi themselves and has chosen to fight off their tendencies. They are choosing not to engage in their homosexual anatomical nature therefore being gritty sadistic and extremist. By this I do not mean that everyone is gay. Only those with the "choice" excuse. Notice that first Jesus refered to the Genesis account concerning marriage. Notice also that He NEVER SAID ANYTHING about gay marriage. Rather Jesus Christ contradicted it in this passage by asserting that God created them male and female. "A MAN will? leave mother and father and be joined to his WIFE"
Anyone who knew anything about the Jews in that day would know that the concept of gay marriage was unthinkable.
Still Jesus in His response contradicted it.

The Levitical Laws in the OT are not for today. If we are going to use them to condemn homosexuality, we will have to stop eating pork and shellfish, worship on Saturday, not wear clothes of mixed fibres and the list goes on. If we are going to follow the Levitical Laws, it's all or nothing. We can't pick and choose. We are not under the OT law but under grace and the law of love. If 2 same sex persons love each other and nobody is getting hurt, the law of love is being followed.

Yes there is. Donnie may have been straight all along but through some trauma developed gay tendencies. Another explanation is that he is bisexual and can go either way. Also he may still be gay inside but is supressing it to make people happy and pretending to be straight. The reason for ex-gay failures is that they only wound the snake, not kill it. If a person is naturally gay, no amount of effort is going to change the fact. The high failure rate should tell us that.

Actually if you read your Bible you will find a place in the NT where Jesus didn't condemn homosexuality. Do you remember when he healed the centurion's servant? It is a known fact from history that this was a gay relationship.The centurion told Jesus that he was not worthy because he was a gentile. If homosexuality was wrong, this would have been an excellent chance to say it. But instead of saying it was wrong he praised the centurion's great faith & healed his servant- no strings attached.

At one time we thought that black people were inferior because of an OT curse on Ham and Cannan and Scripture was trotted out much like you are doing with regards to gays in order to promote slavery and then segregation. The Baptist Church split into North and South over this. It took until 1995 for the Southern Baptist Church to admit they were wrong. What's to say we are not wrong with regards to gays. There is more Biblical support for slavery than there is against homosexuality.

The most disturbing fact is that she keeps changing her reasons and justifications for what she has said. What ever happened to the Establishment Clause or separation of Church and Government? I am very confused as to why her "agenda" seems to be fueled so strongly by her religious beliefs.

As a gay man and a fellow Okie, I was more more than a little mollified at Kern's remarks, too. But what really pisses me off is NOT the gay thing so much as the hypocrisy. So many people here are so willing to start spouting the angry, vindictive Old Testament God when going after someone or something they don't like. But when THEY or their family or friends get caught doing something wrong, the script flips and they want to go all go New Testament, with the nice, forgiving Jesus. Whatever.

Really? So you believe the Bible is completely infallible? What about all the contradictions within it? For example in Gen. 7:12, it says that during the flood, it rained for 40 days. However, in the same chapter, in verse 24, it says that it rained for 150 days. So, if the Bible is infallible, then that's more than a typo, wouldn't you agree?
Furthermore, the point is not whether or not the Bible is valid, but that we have separation of church and state and she should not be letting her

religious views get in the way of her duty as a Representative. When you become a representative, you have to represent EVERYONE, and that includes gay people, Muslims, Atheists, Satanists, Pagans, Hindus, Christians, and everyone else.
She certainly doesn't represent me.
This is not a Christian nation. Many of the founding fathers were Christians, but many were not. If they wanted this to be a Christian nation, they would have said something to that effect. Wisely, they chose not to.

The King James version of the bible was translated to reflect his views. Point one Mary, a prophet who traveled and preached the word of god throughout what is not the middle east. Yet, the Catholic church then King James did not want to give women any power so they omitted, changed and at times lied about history these are facts not fables. Jesus was attacked for allowed the woman from the well to wash and dry is feet with her hair. Jesus knew kindness and humility. I ask do you?

look I am a Southern Baptist Pastor and Sally Kern is a church lady that happened to get elected God rest our soul. Kirk Humphries is a legitimate guy that I respect but he got himself in this debate with the wrong lady

I always laugh at how these people use the Bible to pack up their points. The Bible is just a book that was written thousands of years ago, it is not the word of God but it is the word of the men who wrote and translated it. God did not write the Bible! And he probally hates that it is used for hate in his name.

The Bible was written by men of God for you're info and while the men wrote it there are scriptures that God himself is speaking to the people, why else would the men who wrote the bible talk badly about themselves saying they were cowards and disobedient at times and so on and so forth.

I wonder what this "homosexual agenda" that is more dangerous than terrorism (an intent to kill people) actually is.
You have to love the way she renounces a list of mainstream medical associations with basically saying "no, I'm right". This idea that people choose to be gay is absurd.

I hate watching these discussions sometimes because NOTHING gets done. New points are not made...all Sally Kern did was act defensive, and all the other guys did was argue that the Bible doesn't say this, that or the other thing.
I kept wanting him to ask her "Why would someone CHOOSE to be hated?"

Yeah - I feel that this is the path God chose for me... because I had some prejudices and biases... and in a cruel twist... became all of the things I hated because I didn't understand. It may be my own lesson in humility and judging others.
15 years is not uncommon... HIV these days is a chronic, managed illness like diabetes.
Between the two, it's made me appreciate life and be more careful of how I treat others.

I'm actually very healthy... but I feel that God in my life has a lot to do with that.
I can't expect anyone to be 100% okay with my being gay... because it took me years to work through trying to change it myself.
After 10 years, I chose to stop beating myself up over it... and find a monogamous companion to share my life with.. and keep holding myself to high moral standards in hopes of forgiveness.

Brit, we both are. Hell I've served on our church counsel as vice president. Talk about making you squirm in your chair when they start the homo bashing. We both practice our Christianity in works, not because we feel it earns us a right to heaven but because we love mankind and take to heart the teachings of Christ. Its easier for us to love all people (and I do mean that) then it would be for us to just stop being gay.

Now I can't speak for Marlb0ro.. but I know that hate and doing wrong just aren't part of me.
For a while after accepting I was gay, I did the promiscuous sex thing... but then Mom brought me back to reality by pointing out that I was a slut.. and how would I feel if my sisters behaved that way.
Then I realized... they may accept my sexual orientation, they weren't going to let me slide into a complete life of sin.
BTW - I'm in my 15th year with HIV. Been near-death with AIDS twice.

Because marriage is between a man & a woman where they stand before God, their families, their mothers & pastors.. and promise to be with each other for the purpose of raising a family and caring for each other.
Most gays are not Christian.
I'm ALL FOR domestic partnerships... where the person's companion is able to be with them & help make decisions on their deathbed... where they have as many rights to the departed's things... and where our partners can get insurance.

I see what your saying but out of all the "unacceptable" lifestyles homosexuality is the only one that has been demanding the same rights as straight people and working very hard to be a community of their own and be a "normal" lifestyle demanding the same rights... What I mean is you are under the impression that is real and I am under the impression that it is not. Brit - I don't believe in gay marriage... but I also don't believe that on my death bed, my family have the right to swoop in & steal everything my partner & I owned together... then keep my partner and I from being together as I die.
I've watched this AWFUL seen play out dozens of times... I've even shown up to funerals... only to find out the family moved it to another town & cemetary so none of the gay friends could show up.
If "Christians" weren't so hateful - we wouldn't need protection
