do you have the live in japan album? yeah, i get really excited when i see michael people. so i write a lot. the 'japan' album wasn't even released here until 2004, as far as i know. it's a lackluster performance, at best. but the packaging is beautiful. i think you might also like the soul source collection as well.
@lumbia33 I do have the live Japan album, and I try to image what may have been going on at that time I love the soul source as well, and found out it's limited edition.
@GadgetTrish yeah, the soul source editions are pretty limited. they love him in japan! he was lovingly called 'typhoon michael' (wow), or 'mi-ka-roo', something to that effect.
to me, he is not an entertainer... he is the greatest TEACHER of all time. question- did they add the original cover of 'ben' in this collection? the banned rat cover? yeah, i'm being a completest, i know- HE IS MY TEACHER!!!
i'm curious to know your opinions on the technical aspect of these recordings: who's your favourite producers who worked with the brothers? i'm partial to bobby taylor. and holland in '75.
@lumbia33 MJ is more then an entertainer and for many of us that love him to this extent connect to him on a much deeper level . I love how you see him as a teacher and I truly agree.
To answer your question about the been cover, I do believe they used the cover with MJ and the rats.
As for the technical aspects of these recording, you have me on the producers. You are very advance in that area and I love your knowledge. I really hope to be on your level one day.
@GadgetTrish i think your joy for the teacher is very wonderful... i have been studying him for some time, and i'm always intrigued by the nuances of his work.
i agree with you that their stuff was not marketed correctly. also, 'boogie' is a non-existent collection on the natural resources label; which was a cash-in when 'off the wall' came out. natural resources was a rock offshoot of motown, which was around for 1-2 years. i have a soft place in my heart for 'wings of my love', since my mother played this ever since i was a child. girl, throw yo CDs out and get the vinyl! hee hee...
@lumbia33 My mother played a lot of Motown. Her nickname is "Motown Mommy." When I was little I wanted her to turn it off, and the irony now is now much I love Motown music.
@GadgetTrish you know what's funny...? when i was a kid i hated motown too! i thought it was really sappy. and of course, when i began to buy records on my own, i saw that motown actually came with the funk. james jamerson is the greatest bassist in the whole entire world. listen to 'darling dear' by the J5, and you will see.
trish, i do concur with you in that, if you were not aware of the albums, 'hello world' is a good starter. i just happen to be partial to vinyl. and i have major issues with how gordy treated the brothers as well. that's another story. if you have a turntable, get the 45's of some of these tracks; because the mono editions are phenomenal. also, the 45 editions from 'forever, michael' are edited differently than the album cuts. 'take me back' is one of his greatest tracks of all time.
'forever, michael' is the greatest album in the motown collection. 'music and me' is also a very underrated album. i have them all on vinyl; but i have the 1995 'anthology' on disc. i saw 'hello world' as another michael cash-in, just like they did with 'joyful jukebox music'. 'farewell my summer love' is horrendous. the remixes are terrible. i have 1986's 'looking back on a german edition tamla/motown vinyl.
@lumbia33 Forever Michael is really a great album and is highly underrated. I'm impressed with the fact you have all of the albums on Vinyl. My vinyl collection is small and I wish I had the old music on vinyl just to hear what it sounds like. When it comes to MJ there will always be "Cash-In" projects, but on the positive side, it keeps his legacy alive.
@GadgetTrish if you ever get stuff on vinyl again, you should try to find the half-speed audiophile masters of off the wall and thriller... they were released in 1980 and 1982, approximately. phenomenal stuff. they are the better editions out of the half-speed master series. i have quite a bit of michael stuff on disc, and i'll get it if it's not on vinyl. there's a lot of the 12" promos that were never released in the states, etc.
Took Your Advice and OMG!!! I Am Glad!! This is An Amazing Collection!!! Love It Love It!! and What a Coincidence "Doggin' Around" Is One Of My Top Favorite Songss Of The Collection!! Ow and OMG! Dont You Just Love "When I Come Of Age" Thankss!! a Must HAVE!! L-O-V-E!
@7fire7ice7 I wish that when MJ was alive that they pushed all of there stuff. It's sad that it took his passing for the world to pay attention. The stuff wasn't marketed properly at all. I added so much J5 and Jackson family to my ipod, that I'm still finding new songs. BTW the book is a must have, you will love it. PS: Thanks about the opening.
@oopsbabyhung4 So sorry for the late reply. The Motown sound is so different from any music today. As a kid I didn't really care for it, but as an adult, I love it. MJ has a very soulful voice for a kid and you could feel the emotion of every word of each lyric. Will you love every track, maybe not, but you will love somethings for sure. If you get this please let me know your feedback.
@SwansAndStorms - Wow you comments make me want to work harder, and take things to the next level. The music is magic and the book is just the an extra bonus. This item is so nice that my mother is getting this as a mother's day gift this year. (I just hope you doesn't come across this comment. - lol) I think in the future if I'm looking for a MJ gift for new fans, this will be the item of choose. Thank you for the feedback, you rock!

@lumbia33 It's funny how many of our mothers play a role in to the connection with MJ.

@GadgetTrish certainly!!! i would say that diana ross and michael are the two artists my mother played the most, now that i think about it.

i've got one question trish....
are the songs good?
i've never heard michael's songs from motown as solo artist so i don't know what to expect i don't want to buy the alvum and then don't like it
