I first heard her play last night on NPR's Performance Today. It was the "Emperor" with Paavo in Bonn. I got in the middle of the performance and thought I was hearing Argerich. It was Helene, with the same drive and excitement. Then I listened to the Beethoven Fourth with Eschenbach on YouTube. What a discovery . She plays Beethoven the way it should be played. She's not hard to look at either.

i regret so much listening to her playing. she is such a pretty and intelligent woman. yet her playing is really mediocre at best, you can find a dozen players who can as well as her at juilliard every year. her sound is so flat, can't believe that she is french their music is full of color. no depth and personality at all when she plays.

*blink* how do you really feel? She has synesthesia, you idiot. Having heard several recordings of the piece, i can tell you that she brings (to my ear, at least) nuances out of what is essentially a bombastic score. If someone can make you experience a piece of music in a completely new way, i would call that original. Best version of the Emperor since Guiomar Novaes, in my opinion.
