  • "And when my music sounds happy, it sounds like this."

  • Hay idiotas que solo van por la vida sin encontrarle sentido... sin apreciar el sentido de las cosas...lo reflejan en sus comentarios.

    Pobres infelices...

Sepan apreciar lo bueno de la vida, o simplemente ...no opinen.

  • put a condom over your head, and breath hard.

  • i'm just a guitar player, but that is some of the most impressive string playing i've ever seen.

i can't imagine how hard it would be to play on a guitar, let alone a huge cello.

  • @mistad00m Try it on a Contra Bass :D

  • he moves like a Robot.. but he's good nevertheless :))

  • 6 personas son sordas...

  • so elegant.

  • @Panzervagon hahahahahahahaaa

  • My favorite Bach...

  • 5 reasons to wear condoms

  • Funny how the 30 seconds between 1:25 and 1:55 lasted for over 10 minutes here - and this seems to happen whenever I listen to this video o_O

  • man this guys got serious skills

  • @FuwkBorrks epic.

  • @FuwkBorrks same

  • @FuwkBorrks why?

  • @Gamered125 It's up to you. There are editions that print the music for use with the scordatura tuning that have the notes for the 1st string written a whole step higher (i.e., 4th finger "D" will sound like "C"), and there are others (including yours, most probably) that show all the notes at their real pitches. It's probably easier to play the suite with the scordatura, after you get used to the A string sounding the "wrong" notes, but it can be done with standard tuning as well (like Maisky).

  • @Gamered125

I think Maisky plays CGDA but I would tune the A string down to G because it sounds better.

  • @Gamered125 It's up to you. All it will do is alter your fingerings a bit.

  • Epicness in instrument form.

  • @LaurintonL

    prelude suite 5 uffff

  • man i could listen to this for the rest of my live ^ w ^

  • Can anyone tell me where this vid is from. Is it on DVD. Looks like it was shot in the late 80's early 90's. I'd love to buy the DVD,

  • Seeing this made me pull out my six suites book and plan my weekend around my cello.

Thanks for that comment there, Jacob

  • i do not recommend doing mushrooms to this song.

had the worst trip of my life.

  • @eazyduzitjacob Also do not do shrooms while watching Last Exit to Brooklyn. What a mistake that was.

  • @LANKYNIBS9000 oh fuck yea dude, that movie is fucked up

i saw slumdog millionaire the same night i listened to this song

was not cool to say the least haha

  • hes so good XD

  • Serj Tankian is that you ??ROFL

  • one word ! IMPRESSIVE !

  • Why must you start all these pieces so softly, Mischa!

  • i find him very attractive any1 agree

  • What I find amazing is that he can play every note perfectly in so many songs while only recalling them from memory. No sheet music at all. Now that is impressive.

  • lo hace ver tan facil!! y con tanto sentimiento.... es magnifica esta pieza

  • I like the changing shots at 25 seconds in

  • His precise masturbative style reminds me of my speed as a pubescent teen.

  • @jaspercroy shut up

  • my friend can play gavotte on the guitar (:

  • IS HE CHRIST?

  • I listen to hardcore punk and see parallels with bach's music. He has touched every style of music since his time. What a man.

  • I love this guy so much, all of his Bach music is so good. Also, gotta love the hair.

  • I hate people like this! It makes Cello look easy and then make you feel like you'll always be a failure at playing the instrument because you can't play like this! grr! Some people are just too talented!

  • @sumintookish it doesn't make us feel like failures, it makes us inspired and optimistic about the future and how well you will be

  • I don't know. This is a Gavotte... he plays it like some Beethoven fugue. Too much sturm und drang.

  • This song is sweettttt:)

  • well Am i against the comment of MicoMonstrosity i recommend watching Lacorda doro primo and secondo passo ^^

  • I like how the cello sounds but that was great man

  • If you guys are talking about Anime with wonderful Classical music pieces you should watch & read the Anime/Manga called "nodame cantabile"! :D

  • I think Le Cheviler has some too

  • He is obviously very talented. However, I do prefer Rostropovich's interpretation. His seems to carry with it more depth and he really draws out the notes so wonderfully. Both of them have (and had) much to offer humanity. Too bad more of us don't appreciate this type of true art.

  • i miss this

  • this is really pretty! i play the oboe, but i always wanted to play cello or violin.OMG I love still doll!

lol, i kind of think its funny of how his hair moves when he does :DD

  • :) wow. im really starting to take a huge intrest into classical music, especially bach. i play saxophone but i really like cello. plus i mess around with it alot. so i may learn this.

  • Classical music is music in its purest form. I used to listen to heavy metal, punk and that crap lol. When I first heard Mozart violin sonatas I was HOOKED on classical. Let me tell you. Classical music does wonders for your mind and heart. It truly creates a junction between them. Bach is my favorite. It's like he plucked the notes straight from the universe itself.-Einstein

  • P E R F E C T I O N

  • my favoriteee piece <3

  • rostropovich just plays, but this man here lol plays beautifuly.

you ever get your hands cramped??? anyone?? me no good with minors or flats.....songs that are a minor anyway

  • Wow.. the way he moves just looks unatural O.O but this realy was awesome :) Cello is realy gonna get on my list of instruments i still want to learn to play! :)

  • wow....... i play the cello too and i realised just how much i fail when i watched this

  • I know right? I need to practice a lot more now. Still having trouble with Still Doll though. - -" Ab, Bb, Db, Eb all the way into 5th position. - -"

  • w00t!!! cello FTW! I have to learn this after I learn Still Doll.

  • @SukiKetsuSasoku Still Doll, that is one of my favorite song from Vampire Knight. If you like to watch anime that has good classical music, you should try watching La Corda D'Oro

  • @AnimeAccount1

I love la corda d'oro :D Some really great classical pieces. x3

  • The doublestops are amazing. The whole thing is just fluid and fantastic sounding! Really makes me wish I played the cello.

Just a side note, I love how nonchalant he looks at the beginning. :P

  • beautiful cello, beautiful sound, grand master.

  • AMAZING!!!!!!!!!

  • an incredible work of art, i love the sound of the cello and the cellist is expert!

  • he makes the bow look weightless and the cello easy to play. thats genius.

  • @ThisIsMe113

hehe true, the same goes for Zimmerman and the piano! :)

  • @ThisIsMe113 its as if his bow is floating

  • @ThisIsMe113 He is amazing!

  • if someone told me that was jeff lynne i'd believe it

  • This is a very beautiful piece.

  • his fingers are like... mechanical glory.

  • perfect

  • woah. amazing. i wan to learn how to play cello. if only my parents let me.

  • aha.... i hope you're beaing sarcastic. yo yo ma is not stoned, out of all things. :) and neither am i.

  • I don't see how anyone could think for a second that I was actually serious. But most youtubers are ignorant mouth-breathers so I forgive the lot of you.

  • Sublime, sin más palabras... me ha acariciado el alma, ha dibujado una sonrisa en mi corazón, la armonía me ha inundado...

Un día quien sabe, podré arrancar del violoncello las notas con tamaña virtuosidad.

    Beautiful!!! Great!!!

  • great!

  • beautiful!!! my friends play the cello and i pplay the viola and my other friends play the violin but none of my friends play the bass

  • beard + sweet bach = win at life

  • I love Bach's Cello Suite's:)

and the performer is amazing ^^

  • Wow he's really good...

  • His sound is great. I wonder what kind of cello is this.

  • Comment removed

  • Very Nice... How come this guy isn't more well known? He makes that Chinese guy look like an amateur.

  • He is very famous actually among cellists. Ofcourse Yo Yo Ma is famous with just about every instrumentalists.

  • I'm glad to hear that he has the respect of his peers. Mr. Maisky deserves it, as do the hundreds of other cellists around the world who play rings around yoyoyma.

  • beatifullllllll!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks God for persons how Bach!

  • Bravo!

  • hermoso!

  • Could someone tell me where to get the cd for this version of Mischa's Cello Suites preformance?

  • you can go to the deutsch grammophon website and type mischa maisky... he has 2 different recordings of the bach suites and this one is from the frist one. it's listed in there. you can buy individual tracks online or actually buy the CDs... you can also buy the DVD for this....

  • Masterpiece!

  • omg i love the sound at 0:48 its epic

  • Amazing! The coolest part is the final.

  • WOW

  • This guy's a fuckin badman

  • Nice

  • Love this! Gavotte is probably my favorite and I LOVE Suite Number 5. and its so awesome that I'm going to try to learn it... right now. hhaha! yeah right, waaaaay past my skill level. but I'm still going to try it out because i love it soo much.

  • What's your point?

The song you are viewing now is from a group of suites referred to as, "Six suites for Violoncello SOLO," so they're still just for one instrument.

Though kudos for knowing about how the movements are dances (but for the preludes, of course)--I doubt many people know that.

  • Beautiful, this captures the essence of the dance really well, the sound is very animated to the style =)

  • Yikes! I had no idea this went so fast! I find it hard to play at a far slower speed. I find myself having to tie my fingers in knots to get the chords in - and even then, they're out of tune. This interpretation is just gorgeous.

  • I agree!

  • wonderful!

  • The way he starts out is quite a nice interpretation. I like Jian Wang and Rostropovich's better though.

  • Jian Wang very good

  • dood he plays so damm fast..but itsa good thing

    kick ass song

  • Janos Steaker plays the fastest though

  • this is a cool song.

    check out Karl Jenkins

    song the Palladio.

  • Dude, this is a cello solo.

  • wiki isnt the best reference for further notice, but yeah theyre meant as baroque pieces. However, this guy has a habit of romanticizing all his work.

  • LOLOLOL

  • Bravo! This blew me away. I would love to take up the Cello but the matter of being able to buy one and take lessons would be too much money. So beautiful... I could listen to Bach all day long.

  • Oh dear!

this is such level of performing, that we can't tell so obviously what is good or bad. It's a matter of taste. Some people love romantic Maisky's Bach, and some are impressed by Peiter Wispelwey, Anner Bylsma or Jaap Ter Linden, playing baroque style. Ancient Romans were saying, that: "de gustibus non est disputandum"

  • thats not gavotte

  • yes it is you IDIOT

  • no its not ive played gavotte and plus how u gone comment on a comment i made 3 months ago???? dumb ass

  • I'm sorry but you're the dumbass. Go back to playing gavottes from your suzuki books.

  • Worry not about your grammar, for yours is much better than theirs. Heh, saying you're american doesn't mean much when you try to profess your english.

  • wat?

  • suzuki is japanese douchebag

  • XD You just totally made my day with that phrase haha...

  • I would have loved to learn how to play the cello, but I'm too old for it now. 14 is significantly beyond the range of learning how to play the cello, so I guess all I can do is listen and have regrets. Not exactly pleasant though...

  • Don't be so silly! If you can apply yourself, you can learn. I began playing double bass last year, and have only been playing classical for about half a year, and depending on how the next few weeks go, I may study bass in school. Join orchestra at your school (I'm guessing you are in high school) next year and try it out, and don't think that you can't do something, especially not because you are too old! Just practice a bunch and don't give up. Oh, and play as much Bach as you can!

  • James Van De Mark started playing bass when he was 16 and now he teaches at Eastman. If you want to do it, do it now.

  • I started playing cello when I was 13 and can almost play Bach- cello suite i- menuet. Its never too late to learn and if you have sufficient amount of music knowledge you can improve pretty quickly.

  • Are you kidding? I started taking violin lessons at the age of 48. 14 is a youngster! Practice, practice and in two years, you can be playing great!

  • Yoyo Ma tends to exagerate it to the next. Maisky is taking the essence of the stylized form of the dance and giving us a doleful, yet whimsical ballet.

  • The problem with Yo Yo MA is he is a great virtuoso, and a nice person , but........as a musicina he has very weak points. One of those are his lack of knowledge about prhasing. I know..i know man people couls be angry with this commnet, but lisrten carefully and you will realize it. He plays badly Bach music.

    ytpiano7

  • great perfomance

  • Maisky has perfect intonation and a very smooth sound. I like his Bach better than Ma's or even Rostropovich's.

  • rostropovich is better

  • god, his bowing is just so... perfect! BRAVISIMO!

  • Bien chido ;)

  • I like that! good playing but is better for piano with 2 voices..

  • I'm sure Bach would disagree, having written the suites for cello.

  • yes..you're right.. but I prefer for piano..

  • very nice but not quite got the Tortelier spark or kick. Or tone for that matter.

  • Beautiful--very lyrical.

  • Holy crap dude, he doesn't even look real lol

  • "Crap" has nothing to do with it. He's a talented performer, and he's as real as you and I are. Show some respect.

  • The waves of sound carry me over the oceans of my imagination.

  • Wow! Is absolutely amazing, huge, etc., I wish to see you once in my life, but this is the just I need, thank you for post this, and for share with us the suites

  • amazing
