Flip Wilson and Patrick Swayze were great and we had fun making this film. My best scenes ended up being cut in favor of cute little sexy types...but that was their loss. The director had a lot of distractions at that time, too...it could have been a much better film.
6: Xanadu was supposed to be another roller disco movie, but because both Skatetown USA and Roller Boogie bombed so badly, they rewrote it to focus more on a movie about a muse.
3: Skatetown USA and Roller Boogie were rushing to be the first roller disco movie. They were shot at the exact same time, in locations only a mile apart from each other on Hollywood Blvd. In fact, extras were getting paid from both productions... they'd clock in at one set then duck out to work the other set.
4: The reason you can't rent or buy this movie is because Patrick Swayze was so embarrassed by it, he bought the rights to it and BURIED IT.
1: I skated in this movie. You can see my footwork at 0:43.
2: This isn't really the "Third installment". Both this movie and Roller Boogie came out first in 1979... Xanadu came out in 1980. (I'm assuming you're including that in the "unholy trilogy".
@deadenddrivein Which is the other one in the 'devil's unholy trilogy of godawful 80's roller disco flicks', aside from Roller Boogie...? thnx, this is possibly my favourite genre!

Does anyone know where I can watch this movie online instead of just the trailer... I have been looking to find it for awhile now but am having no luck, if anyone can help me out please send me a message thanks :)
The movie itself wasn't really Oscar material and everybody involved knew it, but this is one of the rare movies that's not even shown or release on DVD. It was fun, plotless, great old late 70s-early 80s cheese thrown in. It didn't take itself seriously. Patrick Swayze would quote this as the "Greatest Piece of Celluloid ever made"....Scott hates this film and doesn't want to say anything about his involvement with the project itself.
I remember going to see this many times as a kid. I have been a roller skater all my life. About all I remember from this movie is that the way it was filmed, you could not watch the movie without getting a headache. The camera was always moving, spinning, even turning upside down, resulting in a very bad viewing experience. I also remember the skating being better than it really was.
Scott Baio, Patrick Swayze, an 18 year old looking Katherine Kelly Lang(of The Bold and The Beautiful), Maureen McCormick, and Ron Palillo{Horshack) together in that only scene for one time. What are the odds of that for having a reunion together? It's like television actors meets two rising stars. I wish there was some DVD release about the movie itself.
I found a DVD-R of this movie and I will admit, it's a blast to watch. Written by Nick Castle (John Carpenter's buddy) it actually has some funny stuff as well as a soundtrack that will cost about 5 million to license for dvd. There must be over 20 hit songs in this movie. I doubt this will ever be released on any format.
Patrick Swayze rollerskates to a cover of the Rolling Stones' Under My Thumb! Oh God, there were some other awful late 70's films like this one - Americana starring John Ritter, Thank God it's Friday, Scavenger Hunt...feel free to add to the list.

I saw this theatrically earlier this year, and I feel weirdly special about it even though it's pretty awful.

I think Avatar is the film that finally took Skatetown USA out as the top grossing movie of all time, but I could be wrong.
