Just going to make one comment since i don't have an opinion on live feeders (they have to die one way or the other.) other then the lizard can get hurt eating live prey. water dragons do eat mice. Think about this do you really think water dragons in the wild go around eating calcium dusted crickets and bugs and many water dragons don't eat veggies.
I work in a zoo, we feed our water dragons with larva and crickets... The snakes get mice and rats, put those have been put down in a humane way first. Feeding with live animals is against the law in my country.....
@MrMrannoying You don't need to hate :-) I wouldn't waste the energy on them! I used to hate it, now I find it intriguing and I watch all kinds of videos on it and look forward to watching my frogs devour their prey. I guess I'm 'converted' lol.
I think you're being a little too dramatic, it's common practice to feed lizards live feeders. They are healthier because nutrition isn't lost through the freezing. Lizards are much more finicky about what they eat compared to snakes, too. It's compassionate to feed something you are caring for, but not as much if you enjoy the loss of life in the process.
A valid statement would be, however, to ask why the owner is feeding a water dragon a feeder larger than a pinky.
I created a site, showmyreptile com, where you can upload pics, videos, start discussions, chat w/ other members, and start groups. Looking for members, would love for you to join. Thanks!
Damn br0 i jus got a CW dragon and hes a baby, i cant wait til he gets this big, im hoping hes a male, its too early to know, but yours is def a BADAZZZZZ, LIKE!
how have you setup your enclosure? i think i see loads of peetmoss so great for keeping the humidity up. i am getting a pair soon so looking for an idea on enclosures and what not.
@TacticalDude2 depend on how you buy. if you buy a huge tank, new light fixtures and uv fixtures. and buy alll your axesories at the pet store it will cost a tone.
if you go to a re-sell store, pickup an old TV cabinet for 40$ . 2 plastic sheets for doors, and some hinges, a mesh top (all bought at a hardware store) the light fixture i bought for the heat bulb but for the UVB light it bought a fixture used for 7$
and 90% of the decorations are real branches/rocks just gotta boil them first.

guys please help: about 3 weeks back i left for a week leaving my chinese water dragon behind, i made sure i fed him before i left. how ever now when i got back, he wont open his eyes nor will he eat anything he seldom opens his eyes and if he does they are watery and he doesnt keep them open for more than a few seconds what could this be? does he have an infection on his eyes or what? i'm scared cause he's not eating and i don't want him to end up dead.
thank you for your concern, yeah we left the light on, when i got back we took him to the vet directly after i posted that comment, yeah he's doing ALOt better now. he has his eyes open and he's eating again turns out the guy at the petstore sold us a UV bulb with 2.0 we needed 5.0 so hence.. he caught MBD its alright, he's better and i made sure that its not gonna happen again.
lol mine is that big and hes eatin goldfish, big crickets, pinkies, and superworms. r u sure the dragon is going to b one month old? thats actually quite large for a one month old dragon
I'm not against feeding them rats it just makes my heart wretch when they squeal if their feed while alive. That doesn't make me a whimp. Just human lol
I like to see and hear pinky mice die from water dragons, but I really love animals! Don't get me wrong, but I just like to hear that little squeaking sound and....Ya know..... Well I still like mice though!
Stop feeling bad and be happy you're at the top of the food chain. If you were smaller and tasted better that mouse would show you absolutely no remorse. lol
It's best if you give them arctic mice. They sell them at pet stores. They're pre-killed mice that are guaranteed to be free of disease. They're breed for that purpose and it's safer for your Dragon to eat, the mouse wont fight back.

thats not what they would eat in the wild "dumbass"... lizards eat in the day light cause thats when they can see...mice are nocturnal..cant see in the day light.. you put that mouse in a situation he wouldnt normally be in and he suffers for it.. you should be thrown in a big dark cage to be picked on by somthing you cant even see then swallowed alive while all your bones break..ASS.
Animals do this all the time. Water dragons in particular eat mostly insects but are known to supplement their diet with small mammals, such as juvenile mice.
Carnivorous reptiles will eat anything small enough for them to choke down just like spiders that are large enough will eat small rodents and birds. In the wild you eat whatever is available to you or starve. Watch national geographic some time.
Also, a study was done in the wild. In 2002, a study was done in the wild. The stomach matter of wild water dragons consisted of mostly beetles, then grasshoppers, spiders, millipedes, centipedes, and crickets last. They also found a few with fish in their stomachs.
A pinkie mouse is fine for a water dragon, but nothing larger. For one, a water dragon can choke if the food is too big, especially if it isn't kept with the proper lighting and nutrition, as its muscles will be too weak to swallow.
Not only can it choke, but also, a LIVE mouse can and WILL fight back. In this video, the mouse fights back. Mammals carry a bacteria in their saliva (usually stored under the nails from cleaning that is harmful, and usually deadly, to most reptiles and birds. A scratch can not only spread the bacteria, but it can also get infected and the animal can die.
And for your information, this is NOT nature. This is an safe, enclosed environment, where the animals well being is in your hands.
Actually, that's not what they eat in the wild. The majority of their diet consists of insects and some plant matter, and very very rarely a small (pinkie) mouse.
I think you people need to do some research and read up on things before pointing fingers and calling names...it just shows your immaturity and inability to think/learn for yourselves.
What an idiot...this person obviously doesn't know much about their own pet...
Water dragons can be fed mice...pinkies...anything larger and they CAN choke. Not only that, the mouse in this video scratched the hell out of him, which hurts the lizard and could possibly kill him due to infection. Not only that, the mouse is alive when being swallowed, scratching the inside of the throat.
if its a male theres a yellow line or dots on it's stomach. I got 2 chinese water dragons, a baby alligator, 1 bearded dragon, and 3 pitbulls. non of my animals have died and when i got my 1st water dragon his mouth was routed cause sum dumb azzes were givin him fruit. After a few months of putin proxide on it he heeled and we gave him a pinky and he tore dat shit up. next week we gave him a mouse and he crushed its skull. I've had him for 3 years and he's in perfectly gude shape!!!!
I think yours might be a female. I'm not an expert or anything, but my guy has wayyyyyyy longer spikes, and I know that's one of the characteristics of males.
wow! that's cool, my water dragons(poncho and juana) are jus babies nd only eat crickets, wax worms, and salad, i never knew they cud eat mice!.........nice vid. btw!!!
My water dragon is very much the same. When I got King Louie all he did was sit there. I gave him feeder fish, crickets, mealworms, superworms, leaves, veggies, fruit, NONE of it appealed to him. He was starving himself to death. Someone recommended pinkys to me and wll, he eats them. And to Louie and Oz, if it don't move, it isn't food. It is no worse than what they do in the wild.
All you over protective fools. I love animals too but this one would have died had I not fed it Mice, thats all it went for. Go fuck yourself ryan1471, it's a shot of our old lizard. If you didn't hide behind your screen I'd tell it to your face, don't talk shit on the web. The vid was a quick little shot. So, get a life? I do more than you ever will you dumb ass. Second, our water dragon would only eat LIVING animals, so therefore we fed it mice.
Heh, the mouse is trying to break free. My lizard is not big enough quite yet. He can only eat crickets and worms. I think it's cute to watch them eat.
you seem to be on a mission to get your reps hurt.every single time you fofer livefood, dead would be a a success without risk to your reptiles. It's not so bad with snakes who are very efficient killers, but frogs and lizards are not as you can see you water dragon just pecking at the rat like its a harmless locust when really it could do damage, a snake will kill its prey in seconds, you should research before you pret around ausing unecessary suffering
that is a cool lixard next time u put up a video do a frozen mouse nd send me the vid plz. :] add me 2 ur friends i own a reptile store call (954)-562-1563 mice ship in 3-5 days and shipping is free. thank you and goodbye!:]
when your dragon was a baby what type of food did u feed it i need help because i just bought one a day and a half ago and he isnt eating could you or someone on here help me thanks

But every pet I get at petco always lives for a long time.
