It would not surprise me if 3rd party's just kept track of the official AH over/under on items and just had lower prices outside of the game. The only problem would be constantly updating the going prices. But then again, they may only need to track a few selected items at a time. The ones that people really want.

First of all this is business. To offer new products you have to have income. The fixed fee is so that all the players don't put all their inventory/shash in the AH and spam it with garbage. This way there will be only good items to find in the AH. The D3 offer is for WoW player who plays WoW anyways and gets D3 for free. If you don't want to play WoW for 1 year and still buy the year pass, you are just stupid... only dumb people would do that.
Or you want Blizzard to release a game, support it for 10 years and make no money of it for the last 9? There is no game like that. Every game has to give income to the company or it will die or not be supported. There is no "free" game on the market that doesn't have some plus features that you have(if you want) to pay for them. The RMAH is a bad idea... this is an auction house and the people who control the amount of each item on the market is blizzard. Which means they can prey on harcore D3 fans wanting to collect a rare item by only releasing a small amount, and i know some people will pay alot of money for such things.

I don't need to be good in a game where I can just buy the High grade loot, not like I would need to work for it. Also, SC2 is a much more competitive game then Diablo has ever been and I'm Rank 9, Masters League. Also, I will lol when I'm sure you'll go and complain about "Well this company makes all this money on DLC that should have been in the game at launch." when people like you are supporting the attitude. Another thing that you've all forgotten. There is a hidden statistics in D3 for how many kills you have, some ratios, equipment you own... So PvP matchmaking will be based on that.
And stop comparing other MMOs to D3.

I will enjoy the game. I don't see how you are obligated to give them money for 'everything'. Just buy the game and play it as long as you want. Like it was before.
If you want to buy/sell items for real money, don't use the RMAH, go to 3rd party sites - problem solved.
It's just like when all the people complained about Skype 4 and now like 80% of them are with version 4+... nobody said - go to Skype 4 or else... they just did it.
I think that we are scared of change... nothing else.

Remember when Blizzard made games that even 10 years later and it still gets bought on store shelves? Games that were focused on the quality and were amazing? Games that didn't demand your money for everything? Figured with the money from WoW they'd finacially satisfied and would use it to develop even more amazing games. So when you have a business you want income, right? So why let someone else make money off your product? It just doesn't sound right.
And the year pass... if you've read more - "You can pay for the WoW Annual Pass on a monthly basis".
So if you play WoW mainly you will get to play D3 for free. If you decide to play Diablo 3, stop paying for WoW, your access to the D3 will be stopped and you have to buy it. This is not like "I will pay and play WoW anyways for 6 months and get a free game."

First of all this is business. To offer new products you have to have income. The fixed fee is so that all the players don't put all their inventory/shash in the AH and spam it with garbage. This way there will be only good items to find in the AH. The D3 offer is for WoW player who plays WoW anyways and gets D3 for free. If you don't want to play WoW for 1 year and still buy the year pass, you are just stupid... only dumb people would do that.

Or you want Blizzard to release a game, support it for 10 years and make no money of it for the last 9? There is no game like that. Every game has to give income to the company or it will die or not be supported. There is no "free" game on the market that doesn't have some plus features that you have(if you want) to pay for them. You think running... let's say 300 servers each consuming 600W on it's peak, it's free? This is 120kW. 120kW x every hour x 10 years... you do the math...

D2 was not supported because there was no income from it. That's why they didn't even try hard to fix issues like duping
Personally I would not support a product of mine that has no income. I would sell it, make a bathtub filled with money and wash myself, and forget about the customers. This is a good thing that they've put RMAH so they have income => so they MUST support the product/game. This is a very good news for us!

Okay, so something that came to my mind ... What if, by any chance some guy finds a loophole in the system, just as it was in diablo 2, to duplicate items?
So if the person finds, say, the new Stone of Jordan, a new must have item for every class and duplicates it hundreds of times and sets it into the ah for a couple thousand dollars ? Is there a stable enough security to ensure that this won't happen?

Him(the duper) making money off it is not a thing that you have to concern yourself with.You can pay stupidly 2k$ and get it faster or have it later in the game =< your choice. If there are a lot of stupid people to buy at that price(and yes, this price is just an example/fictional), good for the moneymaker, not concerning you in any way.

@nimahc you must buy the European digital version instead of the EU and then yes you can, or maybe when you just start d3 you will choose, but you can only play in 1 region!

The RMAH is a bad idea... this is an auction house and the people who control the amount of each item on the market is blizzard. Which means they can prey on harcore D3 fans wanting to collect a rare item by only releasing a small amount, and i know some people will pay alot of money for such things.
this isnt such a bad idea though if there was an unlimited amount of each item at set prices but bidding is just taking advantage of people... its just online gambling

The RMAH is so incredibly dumb. Diablo 3 could have been something, but instead Blizzard decided to get greedy and destroy the economy and integrity within the game. I really sincerely hope that sooner or later they will just scrap the RMAH, but it will never happen because Blizzard are a bunch of greedy bastards that don't care about the community. They only care about money, not about their customer satisfaction.

And saying that they don't care about "their customer satisfaction" is just stupid. They're concerned about people loosing money for an item they didn't get and stop playing Diablo. Let's say a person pays 50$ for an item that they didn't get and say !@ck Diablo... gonna play some other game.

Blizzard makes a shitload of money from WoW and their numbers are going to decrease because Diablo 3 is a similar enough game. Why do you think that they're making offers for people to get D3 for free when they buy a year pass for WoW? It's because D3 is nothing more than a cash cow and they will milk it as much as they want. Isn't it enough that I pay AUD$100 for a PC title? No, they don't get a regular flow of cash coming from D3 or SC2, which is why they're introducing the RMAH and custom map shop in SC2.
