By saying that the old way of philosophy is wrong as they label their observings under shapes, aren't you contradicting yourself as you recognize their philosophy by the "shape" of wrong. I thought you said you can't separate observings into different shapes (tree and soil), then how an you separate right from wrong so easily?
@Punkprotection Think about it carefully. It's a question of purpose... sophists used language and hard separation to facilitate understanding by labeling thereby creating a new separate reality - the physical world vs the world of language. When trying to get a true or false answer to a question about reality through argumentation or syllogism you invariably fall within that second world, the world of language. Barriers that are impossible to see in reality are given an arbitrary limit.
Words are abstract symbols or sounds that represent abstract concepts, and are assigned for the sake of ease of communication. If words were such insurmountable obstacles, nobody would have any idea how to live with each other, and in your theory itself would be inexorably incoherent.
But you are attempting to devalue the very concept of language, when your real enemy appears to be anticipation or expectation, or something similar which we have great, efficient words for.
Kind of like a rainbow. The colors are different, yet they're all still colors. Or just different shades. By calling one ugly or beautiful, you're in a way applying that comment on all the others. I dunno. But this vid was very relaxing, yin and yang type stuff.
Language is too discrete to describe indescrete things. An example, life is defined as having the ability to metabolise and reproduce. A virus doesn't metabolise so it isn't alive. But it is some kind of alive. It's just on the part of the wave just before the right angle.
You know, Masao, it occurs to me that your intonations sometimes sound a lot like Rod Serling's (for instance the line "The limit that language imposes on you..." at 0:38 or so). And I certainly mean that as a compliment!
Anyway, you talk about how dualities are false, yet at the same time you say that everything that shaped our way of thinking is wrong. Isn't our mind just as much part of reality as everything else (unless you somehow do believe the mind is separate from everything else). How can it be wrong if it exists. If nobody is capable of fully understanding reality, who are we to judge the perspective of others.
Everything in the video makes sense to some degree, but we cannot fault language for this. You have to assign a value to a word, otherwise it has no value at all. Then we'd have no way whatsoever to communicate to eachother, and we'd certainly be worse off for that. Rather have somewhat inefficient communication than none at all.
The characterization of gray areas is also indefinable, as we all have different views and ideologies of right and wrong or good and evil.
What deep and insightful videos you make. God only knows why you haven't won a nobel prize yet, particularly in the 'Setting your kitchen on fire while making a hotdog and peach smoothy' category.
This isn't really philosophy, its more of a meditative reflection. Philosophy is like Socrates: This, therefore that, blabla, if you accept this premise then you accept this conclusion and bang this is your answer... kind of like an exercise in semantics. The way I see it, trying to find the "absolute truth" as philosophers do is like chasing after your own shadow, or like a camera trying to photograph its own lens. "Truth" is a tool of argumentation
What if we're sectioning off shapes? Like a steak. We kind of need to interpret things in groups or divisions even on an animalistic level. It's what kept Tigers from eating us.
If you really think about it, it kinda makes sense. What I got from him is that there is no definitive way of describing a person. There is no concrete or "hard" way to classify a person because he/she has different aspects to their being. We tend to ignore certain traits of a person and judge them based on just one aspect of their character. No person is just good or bad, victim or criminal, but a combination of both (5:35)....or maybe I should just grab a beer as well.....
I'm kinda confused - This whole theory is redefining a lot of things.. Hmm, school's draining all my brain juice.
On a side note, I've noticed that you always seem to be serious on a subject and then all of a sudden either think or "realize" that it makes no sense or is stupid? Either way, I find your videos really mind blowing and I'm really glad I have access to them, keep posting Masao, please.
@RsisBanana Saying this video makes no sense is ignorant - throughout this entire video Masaoki is talking like a meditator or a buddhist. I never expected this out of a guy who sets a pot on fire with oil. Good video....
@Faffel PS: Have you ever worked with mental health professionals in the past, Masao? I know you mentioned in an old video that your thought process works normally, but it works really slowly - have you ever had a diagnosis to put a word to how your mind works?
@Faffel I had some, but I don't really believe they were accurate. Most recently, a psychiatrist told me I was schizotypal but when I read the description I didn't feel that it described me
Needs more fires.

Masao's voice is so quiet and relaxing in this video. I like to listen to it when I'm sleepy.

This may not be the most complex philosophy, but the way you present it is very intuitive. This is also shown the video you made on racism.
If you didn't burn things so often, I'd say that you would make a great teacher.
