Ladies and gentleman, what we have here is the greatest performance by an actress in the history of cinema. In arguably the best film of the decade of the 2000s. Nuff said.
after reading through the majority of the comments throughout these videos, i find it incredible that there are people out there who condone what this woman did. for me its a no brainer, despite her (undoubtably) tough life, she was still a murderer. she was a danger to many people and in my opinion, she got everything she deserved.
@StickyyWinklee... Yeah I agree, she deserved this wonderful Movie in her name that inspires people who understand what "cruel" reality is really about and the pain of suffering that helps us compare our fortunate lives to this woman who had to struggle to survive! And allow us to be aware of the consequences of our actions! This movie was remarkable! I watch a lot of Crime and research a lot about forensics, psychology, and the law. But this was a great movie. ^^;
"It wasn't until I was told that Aileen spent many hours listening to my album Tigerlily while on death row and requested "Carnival" be played at her funeral that I gave permission for the use of the song. It's very odd to think of the places my music can go once it leaves my hands. If it gave her some solace, I have to be grateful."--Natalie Merchant--Wikipedia
Aileen was wrong for killing 7 men, she got the justice that she deserved, however Tyria should have told police as soon as she found out, if the first murder was of a convicted rapist then the chances are she was raped and have gotten a much lighter sentence, in which tyria could have visited her in prison, and then perhaps sort her life out.
@saulwilliams56 Although I agree with you, there's no denying that there's a serious problem with society that was in essence the causation of all that happened. She was abused in childhood, left on the street, and one thing led to another so that she had no job prospects and had to go with men who, in some cases, were completely malicious. You reap what you so, society does also. I can't help but feel everyone can learn valuable lessons from cases like this.
First time i saw this movie was when i was 10 years old,and it was one of the deepest films in cinema history imo.Now 17 1/2 years of age its still deep and powerful 9 years of its release.I watched this film 2 nights ago with my family and a heartbreaking feeling at the end.........just deep.
Of course I feel sorry for the murdered men & their families, but - from what I've read and heard - this woman grew from a child who was brutalised by her grandfather and repeatedly raped by her brother who was selling her to his friends for sex from before she was nine years old. Where were all the do-gooders when she was a child and needed them? They had their backs turned, waiting until she grew up into a killer so that they could put her on death row.
i know she was an evil serial killer, but i cant help but feel some sympathy for her, she had a terrible childhood and she thought she was doing what was best for the one she loved. i know its no excuse really but still.
Doesn't matter whether people believe she was a 'monster' or not. She should never have been executed. She was psychologically damaged from a life of abuse and maltreatment at the hands of men, even those she should have been able to rely on and trust most in the world, her own family. Her first victim was a convicted sex offender, this was never introduced at her trial. After the upbringing she had, I'm not surprised she was tipped over the edge, she never had a real chance in life.
I found it so sad that Selby betrayed her after Aileen did all that for her. And some of the guys she killed obviously weren't innocent either. Selby was the one who wanted Aileen to continue being a hooker even when she was making an effort to change.
If one sees Aileen's childhood picture, one can't hold oneself from hating this bloody world. And one thought that only kids in the third world are served a raw deal!
I hate that Selby turned her in but its better this way because she couldve killed more innocent people and thats not fair to them and society... But how did they make a beautiful women like Charlize look like a white hooker and all trashy looking like shes been smoking non-stop
This was my first time watching this movie. It really ripped my heart out. Everyone talked about Theron's performance, and it really was spectacular, especially having seen the tapes of the real Wournos seeing how well she resembled her, but Ricci really brought out her character's innocence and the confusion. I could feel them more than I could hear them.
@BloggerMusicMan that's actually the sad part, Ricci added a whole different persona to the character that isn't true of the real Tyria Moore. Tyria was a selfish troglodyte that pushed Lee to kill to support her lazy beer-drinking ass! How Tyria escaped charges is a huge blight on law enforcement, as Tyria KNEW how Aileen was getting the money and cars. She turned her head, all so she can selfishly booze it up. Christina gives too much empathy to a person who was a user and a failure in life!
Forgiveness is something important. And all though what Aileen did was wrong, it's important to realize that she was a human being, born into this world innocent and fell into a terrible lifestyle. She had something happen to her that traumatized her and in her eyes, every time she killed someone, she was stopping another girl from getting raped like she was. Of course it doesn't justify the killings. But it's important to respect Aileen for the fact that she was a human life.
I hate Selby/ Tyria so much. She was as much of a monster as Aileen was. She didn't try to help her. She encouraged Aileen to continue being a hooker so she could mooch off of her and have a fun and exciting life, not even putting an effort into it herself. The sad thing is that Aileen loved the person who continued to make her the horrible monster she felt like.
Why is everyone standing up for Aileen? She made her own choice to kill those men. Sure, I feel bad she had a rotten past. But she MADE THE CHOICE, PEOPLE, to kill all those men. We're all responsible for own actions, not what our past has brought us. End of story.
@KieferSuth1985Marx I agree! I was living in Ormond Beach at the time, and police were warning us not to pick up hitch hikers, which I wouldn't do anyway! Her first victim was just a few miles from my parents' house. Every time my family and I head out of state, I remind them of the spot off I 95 where the first victime occurred!
Its sad to see a mentally Ill person who was trying to better herself but the system and society wouldn't give her a chance. I believe though Selby/Tyria should have also served Jail time, She used Aileen and took her for granted. She knew she was killing toughs men but she wanted more and more and to always have a Party life. If anything she manipulated Aileen and when Aileen wanted to stop hooking she wouldn't let her by pretending she would kill herself and use guilt as a weapon against her
@rikkifulmer - I agree, even though Selby didn't force Aileen to kill, this part of movie made me hate Selby too. wow, selby is such a selfish bitch! i actually feel like if it wasnt for her pushing aileen she might not have done as much as she did. To have to keep hooking to take care of someone who doesnt even appreciate it... no wonder she gave up her appeals so they would just kill her and get it over with!
ok i am really confused, someone who got abused, raped and abandon at a young age and the only thing she did was to protect herself from those pigs- Got the death penalty. Someone who didnt call 911 who child was missing for 30 days, went partying with her friends and boyfriend and lied- was released. FLORIDA IS MESSED UP!
@ShootingStar390 Aileen Wuornos chose to become a prostitute, chose to trade sex for money with strangers, and then chose to murder people. She is responsible for her actions, and no one else.
@pool741 My childhood was similar to hers...it didnt make me bitter, it made me a fighter & ability to have empathy for others & "feel " their pain. Its kind of a curse sometimes. Not only do I feel my pain, but others around me.
Exactly. She begged to be executed in the end, because she was being fucked up so much and she couldn't handle it anymore. She had something to tell the journalist but only if the cameras would be off and nobody official would hear it. When they had her believe she was off the record, she told him all the murders were self defence, but she couldn't stand this anymore so she confessed. There's quite a bit of further evidence as well.
Hah. If anything I'm a cynic. The ones who are naive are those who believe in the American justice system and think it's not corrupt. It's quite ironic how you're calling ME naive..
@jella11 No, you're naive because you think if a woman claims "rape", she's automatically innocent (even when she's retracted those claims of rape). How do you explain Charles Humphreys, one of Aileen's victims, who was fully clothed? I've personally never heard of a dry-humping rapist.
Really do you think I'm stupid enough to just believe everything a convict says in their defense? I didn't believe it but I SAW MORE. She eventually retracted the claims, evidently because she just wanted out. When she thought the camera's weren't rolling she whispered it to a long-time journalist of her story, for one. Hell, it was even clear that evidence had been tempered with. So who even says Charles Humphreys was fully clothed, although if he was that doesn't say a thing.
@jella11 Also, she never said ALL the murders were self-defense. She said "IT" was self-defense, meaning the first persons he murdered. I believe that, as he was convicted before. All of the others...nope.
This movie is a testament to how they screwed her over. They were just using her for money. If you knew about Aileen's real story, you'd be turned completely against the death penalty and the fucked up American corruption. These people are more cruel than the criminals they prosecute.
Doesn't matter where they're from or what they look like on the outside, they're ugly and good for nothin but a screw in the end....and the real Aileen, that bitch, cost over a million dollars to try and execute....worth more than all her Johns ever paid her and that she spent out in the economy.
Please check out the Trailer for "Weekend at the Cabin" and Purchase your own copy or rent it today. Help support your Indie Artist. Tell a friend. Have a great day.
I have never seen this film except for just now on You Tube but Charlize Theron gives a knockout performance as Aileen Wuornos and the makeup team did a superb job. Not knowing nearly enough about this woman, it would be wrong of me to make any assumptions but I can say that it is sad the way her life turned out.
I thought the movie was pretty faithful to the actual events, although names were changed. I don't really believe she "deserved" the death penalty, she was obviously not in her right mind, see Aileen Wuornos gone insane-------------->
Everyone here should go and watch the documentary instead. Just as in "Boys don't cry" this movie isn't that reliable. I just saw the documentary and now this, and I do believe she deserved death.
Yes Selby was the fucking nutcase! She knew the men were being murdered but as long as she had money she didn't care. She sat there in that court room like a heartless lying bitch and betrayed her "love". Yet, she get's away. Fucking american court systems!!!!!!!
@inevercarebear she was scared, she couldnt just betray someone she loves, and she probably felt too unsafe as well but she wanted to live a normal happy life, cause she didnt kill anyone, she didnt understand why she went and did those things.
Selby sold Alieen out to the police, she made her confess. All Alieen was trying to do was protect Selby, but Selby just wanted to save herself. Alieen just wanted a friend, but Selby just didn't care anymore and fucked Alieen in the process. Thats why Selby is a fucking bitch, sacrificing Alieen rather making it better for the both of them.
oh she was gulty!!!! a we don't feel bad at the end cuz we think she dosen't have a choice. everyone has a choice, she got tought ones but got it... we feel bad and sad with all that insanity and weird way to see thing, she give everything for one person a understanded. at the end she wasn't selfish.
This film makes me sick. The director was typically a woman creating a hard done by, feminist anti-hero depection of this brutal, lying,man-hating cow. Only women can generate sympathy the way she did. Killers should never be glamourised. Would you do the same to Ted Bundy? No, I bet not. Taking this hollywood piece of crap as gospel is really fucking lame. She killed all these people and had the nerve to say it was self defense every time. Wherever she is now, she's laughing her ass off.
@SuperBailey2009 There was a movie about Ted Bundy's story with the same name (Ted Bundy) and it did sympathize with the killer. I agree that this does not depict the true Aileen Wuornos (even though Charlize did an amazing interpretation) and this movie does have medium to strong feminist overtones. But that does not make it a bad movie, incoherent with reality perhaps, but not a bad movie. And no movie is entirely coherent with reality, something that would make the movie very boring,
selby (or tyra as the gfs real name is) did not report a murder! she got caught as did aileen but the police made a deal to let her go free if she got aileens confessions on tape! tyra is a bitch! she lived off aileen n knew full well wer the cars etc wer coming from.watch the documentary on youtube about it.i saw that first n oit really clarifys a lot!
poor Aileen she loved selby she gave her the money and she wasnt even going to turn her in what a bitch!... Aileen would have been fine if nothing bad had happened to her in her childhood I wonder where her baby is at now!
You have to remember, when Selby met Aileen, she came from a very strict sheltered home and she was also very young. Aileen promised her everything and that she could take her away and give her a good life. What Selby really was guilty of was being naive and young.
By the way, Charleze Theron is amazing!! This was the role of her life
Aileen was killed for love, for Selby to make her fucking childish dreams come true... and selby was act like, a total bitch to betray Aileen like this. Selby was motivate Aileen to get money and to be so desperate, so that's also her fault - she created a monster and that's the true. Btw. This movie is awesome!
All you people putting blame on Selby/Tyra, I sincerely hope you NEVER serve on a jury. You've fell for the oldest trick in the book .... suck up every excuse a guilty party will ALWAYS make, like it was the gospel. But you'd make REALLY decent defense lawyers however .... take the blame off the guilty party by attacking the innocent party.
Those type attitudes are one of the very reasons the collective IQ of the world has plummeted the last couple decades .... no one actually THINKS anymore.
"Love conquers all. Every cloud has a silver lining. Faith can move mountains. Love will always find a way. Everything happens for a reason. Where there is life, there is hope."
OMG she looks exactly like the real Aileen Wuornos... But i could not find anything about Selby, I really want to know if she also looked that way in her youth?
you guys act like tyra is the bad guy aileen wasnt such a bad person... would you have lied for someone that killed several innocent people? if so thats messed up. if everyone got involved with a murderer and supported them then what the hell would this world come to?its already bad enough! some of the victims werent innocent and were killed under self defense, well thats what she says, but some were and had families who were heart broken. if she wouldve killed your friend, u would love tyra!!!
i do not think she should of been put to death i mean yeah it is sad and mruder is not right, but what about all the abuse she got even from a dirty cop? and how selby knew about the murders what did she get??
Okay, the story was slanted a little, but this was a VERY (!) good movie. Phenomenal job by Theron. She took a character which was a train-wreck, in every sense, got all the mannerisms and speech patterns down to a science, and gave a heart-breaking performance.
This is one of the saddest stories ever put to film. Again, Charlize Theron has proven to be an INCREDIBLE actress.
Kinda weird seeing all these people feeling sorry for Aileen... o_o but I guess I understand why it's easy to have sympathy for her. Either way, Charlize Theron played the heck out of this role! omg I still can't get over how much she looked like Aileen in this.. talked like her, everything.. it's like she channeled Aileen to act her own role with Charlize's body!
I like this movie because it's actually fortells the truth of her life and the first man Aileen killed derserved it she herself was almost mutilated with that saw in the back of his trunk if his killing would have happened since that's where it really started and Cherlize Theron did a good job of portraing Aileen Wuornos.

@pool741 My childhood was similar to hers...it didnt make me bitter, it made me a fighter & ability to have empathy for others & "feel " their pain. Its kind of a curse sometimes. Not only do I feel my pain, but others around me.

@TheBeachside21

@jella11 You're so naive.
caysayfla 4 months ago
@caysayfla
Hah. If anything I'm a cynic. The ones who are naive are those who believe in the American justice system and think it's not corrupt. It's quite ironic how you're calling ME naive..
jella11 4 months ago
@jella11 No, you're naive because you think if a woman claims "rape", she's automatically innocent (even when she's retracted those claims of rape). How do you explain Charles Humphreys, one of Aileen's victims, who was fully clothed? I've personally never heard of a dry-humping rapist.
caysayfla 4 months ago
@caysayfla
So who even says Charles Humphreys was fully clothed, although if he was that doesn't say a thing.
jella11 4 months ago
@jella11 Keep idolizing a murderer, dear. It's really cute!
caysayfla 3 months ago

Useless fuckin whore.

I have never seen this film except for just now on You Tube but Charlize Theron gives a knockout performance as Aileen Wuornos and the makeup team did a superb job. Not knowing nearly enough about this woman, it would be wrong of me to make any assumptions but I can say that it is sad the way her life turned out.
xyPERSON 6 months ago
I thought the movie was pretty faithful to the actual events, although names were changed. I don't really believe she "deserved" the death penalty, she was obviously not in her right mind, see Aileen Wuornos gone insane-------------->
smahieu321 6 months ago
Everyone here should go and watch the documentary instead. Just as in "Boys don't cry" this movie isn't that reliable. I just saw the documentary and now this, and I do believe she deserved death.

Yes Selby was the fucking nutcase! She knew the men were being murdered but as long as she had money she didn't care. She sat there in that court room like a heartless lying bitch and betrayed her "love". Yet, she get's away. Fucking american court systems!!!!!!!
inevercarebear 6 months ago
@inevercarebear she was scared, she couldnt just betray someone she loves, and she probably felt too unsafe as well but she wanted to live a normal happy life, cause she didnt kill anyone, she didnt understand why she went and did those things.
woahXgirl94 5 months ago 2
Selby sold Alieen out to the police, she made her confess. All Alieen was trying to do was protect Selby, but Selby just wanted to save herself. Alieen just wanted a friend, but Selby just didn't care anymore and fucked Alieen in the process. Thats why Selby is a fucking bitch, sacrificing Alieen rather making it better for the both of them.

SuperBailey2009 6 months ago
@SuperBailey2009 There was a movie about Ted Bundy's story with the same name (Ted Bundy) and it did sympathize with the killer. I agree that this does not depict the true Aileen Wuornos (even though Charlize did an amazing interpretation) and this movie does have medium to strong feminist overtones. But that does not make it a bad movie, incoherent with reality perhaps, but not a bad movie. And no movie is entirely coherent with reality, something that would make the movie very boring,

ILoveSummerParadise 7 months ago
All you people putting blame on Selby/Tyra, I sincerely hope you NEVER serve on a jury. You've fell for the oldest trick in the book .... suck up every excuse a guilty party will ALWAYS make, like it was the gospel. But you'd make REALLY decent defense lawyers however .... take the blame off the guilty party by attacking the innocent party.
Those type attitudes are one of the very reasons the collective IQ of the world has plummeted the last couple decades .... no one actually THINKS anymore.

you guys act like tyra is the bad guy aileen wasnt such a bad person... would you have lied for someone that killed several innocent people? if so thats messed up. if everyone got involved with a murderer and supported them then what the hell would this world come to?its already bad enough! some of the victims werent innocent and were killed under self defense, well thats what she says, but some were and had families who were heart broken. if she wouldve killed your friend, u would love tyra!!!

I must admit I got emotional at the end and was on the verge of tears.
Aileen really had a hard life and became a villain out of tragedy but at least now her suffering is over.

Kinda weird seeing all these people feeling sorry for Aileen... o_o but I guess I understand why it's easy to have sympathy for her. Either way, Charlize Theron played the heck out of this role! omg I still can't get over how much she looked like Aileen in this.. talked like her, everything.. it's like she channeled Aileen to act her own role with Charlize's body!
ipodchik 9 months ago
I like this movie because it's actually fortells the truth of her life and the first man Aileen killed derserved it she herself was almost mutilated with that saw in the back of his trunk if his killing would have happened since that's where it really started and Cherlize Theron did a good job of portraing Aileen Wuornos.
