Why don't they call the future 49ers Stadium, Walsh Stadium or Walsh Arena? If it it wasn't for him, the 49ers wouldn't been the ultimate team in the 80s.
He raised Montana carefully. He put Joe in at goal line situations or places where he could excel and build up confidence rather than throw a few interceptions early and have him scarred for the rest of his career. RIP man, you were the greatest coach of all time and I regret not being around when you were winning in San Francisco.
The 49ers were a joke before Bill Walsh became the coach. After he left the organization they became a joke again. This man was such a great coach and football guy.
Ain't that the truth............................But what was also true was the stress Walsh was under when the 49ers became a great team during the 80's..........mainly the press in SF.
Rumor also had it Walsh was going to be fired after 1987.........They went 13-2 that year, yet they got upset by the Vikings in the playoffs.
Nevertheless, Bill Walsh is the greatest offensive mastermind in football history.........Not to mention a HOF head coach.
such an amazing person. he detailed everything he did. he even organized his memorial. we are that less of a society without Bill. but his memories will never die.
Growing up in Dallas, I was anything but a fan of the the 49'ers. Now that being said, it didn't take a San Fran fan to see that Walsh was clearly a class act. I can only try to imagine what NFL offenses would like today had he not come on to the seen. Even if by chance he is not rembered as one of the great coaches, he has to be seen as one of the greatest men to coach. Rest in Peace BIll, you've earned it.
Bill was the best, not only with X's and O's, but as a competitor, a mentor and a true player's coach, as evidenced by all of the people who only have good things to say about him. San Francisco and all of football are lucky to have had his imprint on the game. We'll miss ya', Bill.
Afterwards, Bill Walsh said, "1990 was a fluke, but today, we beat them fair and square."(1990 was referring to when Stanford beat Notre Dame 2 seasons before.) Stanford went on to have a great season and killed Penn State in the Blockbuster Bowl. Does anyone remember this game? Bill, you are a legend, and we all miss you!
As it turned out, the game WAS a blowout. However, it was in Stanford's favor. Bill Walsh worked a lot of magic, and outcoached Lou Holtz, an all-time great college coach, so badly. The Stanford offense went to work, the defense was nasty, and Stanford scored 33 unanswered points! In addition, Stanford held Notre Dame to like less than 20 yards of total offense from there on. The final score was Stanford-33, Notre Dame-16.
In 1992, while coaching at Stanford, Bill performed perhaps the best coaching job ever in a single game. His Stanford team went into South Bend to face a loaded Notre Dame team, which included Rick Mirer, Jerome Bettis, Reggie Brooks, Irv Smith, Derrick Mayes, Aaron Taylor, Tim Ruddy, Demitrius Duboise, and Jim Flanagan. The Stanford team was good, but not super. Notre Dame got up 16-0, and this game had blowout written all over it at the time.
sad day in the nfl the passing of a legend bill walsh a coaching genius an the inventor of the west coast offense which is still used today r.i.p. bill.
