This would be the cool part of being a loadmaster. Most people are not cut out to be a special operator, but given you can pass a flight physical and not a complete dumbass, you can be a load toad and still be a part of the operation. cool stuff
Not to be rude, but there are no "Marine Corps Special Forces". Special Forces are a branch of the US Army, known as "Green Berets".
Marines have Force Recon which are similar to the Army Rangers, although they are reconnaissance focused, not necessarily direct action missions.
The Marines fought very hard NOT to be included in the US Special Operations Command when it was formed, NOW that it is getting all the attention, the Marines want in.
Unfortunately, this school is a JTO between the MC and the Army. It says special forces for the layman... This course had and array of Marines from normal infantry to recon... But only Army SF. But, you ARE correct, sir.
My point is about the vocabulary used and the definitions of what are Special Forces vs. what are Special Operations
That term was used to differentiate what were "doctrinal" operations (defend, attack, withdrawal etc) vs. special operations (ops not defined in any Army Field manual) such as Hostage Rescue, Airfield Seizure, etc.

Thank you Sir, I actually recently started the US Army Counterinsurgency field manual just to get a head start on this stuff. You're right about video games glorifying spec ops though, but on the other hand, I'm sure it hasn't exactly hurt recruiting. The only thing I'm nervous about is that every USMC pilot has to do one tour as a forward air controller assigned to an infantry unit, but officers aren't the guys doing HUMVEE patrols and getting chewed up by IEDs...right?
All specialised soldiers and other branches are all special operations now, falling into 5 different commands. All operate with each other, something that needed to happen20 years ago.
not all branches look at the coast guard...also the marines dnt have a spec ops squad cause the marines are spec ops so theres no point havin a special ops team if the whole branch spec ops
Killjoy, just because Marines are awesome, doesn't mean it's a 'Spec ops team'. It has it's own Special Forces, the most famous these days being Force Reconnaissance (Force Recon, for all you Modern Warfare kids). It has a different role in it's service to the United States, than say the US Army, but it's not a Special Forces on its own.
my back is still screwed up from jumping barrels when i was with force recon.
the cool thing is.. the force recon marines are the service of special ops jumping the barrels. seals and green berets are getting the hand me downs now a days.. haha
There were 13 jumpers all between 177 and 218lbs. Im still trying to get a hold of the jumpers. They have footage of the descent from helmet mounted cameras.

The 82d has what known as LRSD. To serbe in a LRSD unit you have to be Ranger qualified an HALO qualified..

117, Not a problem, I have had great relationships with many Marines, and while we often disagree on force employment, we are all brothers
The whole "special" opns issue has become so romanticized and glamorized by movies and games that the understanding of it has been overwhelmed
Wars are won by the Infantry grunt on the ground doing the everyday hard and dangerous things
The guys in Delta, the 75Th Regt, and Seal Tm 6 will agree with that
